0 assists in almost 40 games is not playing the right way.
He does all the dirty jobs that no one likes doing. He works hard every second he is out there. Points are not the only measure of a hockey player.
I will grant you that he seems to have fallen off a bit this year. In years past, I was confident when he was out there checking the other teams' top lines. Now, he seems more like an ordinary 4th liner. That may be part of the problem this year: we are not getting that 1 ultra-favourable match-up each game.

Absolutely. Playoffs were done by US Thanksgiving. That statistic is around for a reason.
Unless you are Buffalo. In Housley's second season, the Sabres set the record for best winning percentage at Thanksgiving to miss the playoffs.

The OP is trying to send a message to play the game the right way by mistreating someone who has always played the game the right way. The Sabres' already bad reputation around the league would then take another hit. Brilliant!

One thing this team does not have enough of are NHL middle-agers with talent who can teach the younger players how to not get down when things go wrong. Two years ago, they had those guys without much talent. This year, there are too few of those guys with more team talent. This requires not getting to enamoured with the draft picks.

My youngest daughter struggled in school but had a building skill. Tech school and now in the carpenters union. No debt.
Skill trades are painfully short on talent. Do not ignore.
Skill trades make more than junior developers too.

Seriously, this team is identical to their coach. Boring and predictable. This guy is terrible at matching lines at home... See his home record as HC.
Let's just move on from this guy.
The home record under Donnie Meatballs just baffles me. What do they do wrong in their home preparation?
Welcome to the board!

Thread for OCD types who don't like reality.
Let me know if I did my math right (as of BEFORE their 2.19 Ducks game), assuming 93pts makes the playoffs:
28 games remaining, 41 more pts. needed
18 games at ".500," with at least 4 being overtime losses [+22pts]
9 game winning streak, divided how you'd like (three 3-game winning streaks; one 4-game winning streak + one 5-game winning streak; etc.) [+18pts]
1 more OT loss [+1pt]
So how do you do this if the Sabres don't win more than 2 in a row?

It’s a kids game. Hopefully the crowd acts accordingly.
I hope that this is what we get. I have the nasty suspicion that, at some point this season, it is going to get ugly.

Are there kids waiting for that? Or are they flipping the bird like their dad?
When I go to games, I always come early to watch warm-ups by the glass. I want to see the players faces, gauge the mood. Most look fine. Tuch always looks moody. Could be just his game face. But one thing I do see are players responding to kids by the glass. They react to signs, come up to the kids, maybe flip them a pick. The one player who really went out of his way for kids was Boosh.
To be honest, Tuch has always looked moody. Part of me thinks that he has internalised the fans' frustration.

I have to ask.
I watched the Cow-lumbus game in question. How many fans were chanting for Donnie's firing? I don't remember hearing them on the broadcast. Contrast this with The Tank season when you could hear a substantial chunk of fans cheering for the opposition on the broadcast.

You have to ask why Gallant is always available.
True. I don't think that there is a coaching panacea for this team.

At least they don't salute the fans they way that Al Smith saluted the Knoxes, Head Coach Marcel Pronovost, and General Manager Punch Imlach when Don Edwards was started over him after Gerry Desjardins got that eye injury.

Whether you care about the salute or not this team seems to be in an awful place mentally.
Unquestionably. GMKA and HCDG have their work cut out for them just until the end of the season or this is going to get a lot uglier.

Hmm. Interesting take.
How did this evolve? It used to be something done on special occasions, and then became more routine?
I think it was a "suggestion" from the league office after The Big Lockout.

I think the anger of the fans is somewhat misplaced, but if you are paying good money to see the team routinely fall behind up to 3-0 in the first period, where else are you going to vent your anger?

The PP is a big part of it: that theory is strong. Don’t mean to say it’s not. It’s just very important that we don’t pretend it’s a one-stop answer to all our problems. Because there are other very significant issues.
O.K. Now I get you. Thanks.

A league average PP would have us with 13 more goals this season. That’s it - that’s the league average mark this season.
The difference between 27th place and being a good, solid playoff team is not 13 goals over the last 50 games.
There goes that theory. It is the offence in general.

No, it’s not.
Dangerously close to imbibing the Adams mindset
This is exactly, exactly why we are in the position we are this season and we haven’t even finished putting the finishing touches our near-bottom of the league finish and people are calling for a reenactment of the same approach. Smh
at some point we can’t blame the organization, im sorry
Why not try a new coach? If he works out, then he and Bales can survive a purge. Bringing him in does not preclude changing Donnie or even Kevin at the end of the season.

I’m Sorry for Being So Negative!

It is hard not to be negative, in part because last year showed so much promise. This year shows that sometimes, they can be very good. Unfortunately, it has shown that they can be very bad. And that makes their failures even more frustrating.
