  1. I'm still using 93pts as the benchmark:

As things stand (before playing Winnipeg tonight), they need to go:

    15 - 5 - 1

    14 - 4 - 3

    13 - 3 - 5

    12 - 2 - 7

    11 - 1 - 9

    10 - 0 - 11

They could go 10 - 11 (if they lose all 11 games in overtime) and possibly get in!

Something tells me UPL could have a say...

  2. I am particularly cursed, because I became obsessed with the Sabres during Hasek's era in the 90s. I remember my father and my brother telling me "don't get your hopes up, they're going to lose in the first round" ... "don't get your hopes up, there's no way they beat the [Flyers, etc.] this series"

    ...and they kept winning!

Now I expect the unrealistic. And here I am.

  3. Another road to the playoffs:

If we win 1 more game, and then play .500 hockey the rest of the season, we'll be at 82 points

If we can somehow get 11 loser points in all of our losses, we'll be in. Or:

Win 2 more games above .500, 9 more loser points

Win 3 more games above .500, 7 more loser points

Win 4 more games above .500, 5 more loser points

    etc. etc.

What's working against us is we're running out of games, and we'll have to have an unusually high OTL/L ratio

Might as well shut this thread down.  No way this team even gets within sniffing distance.  They have been in desperation mode for a month and still can’t figure out how to beat a goalie with 40+ shots.

Please see first sentence of OP

  5. Thread for OCD types who don't like reality.

Let me know if I did my math right (as of BEFORE their 2.19 Ducks game), assuming 93pts makes the playoffs:

28 games remaining, 41 more pts. needed

18 games at ".500," with at least 4 being overtime losses [+22pts]

9 game winning streak, divided how you'd like (three 3-game winning streaks; one 4-game winning streak + one 5-game winning streak; etc.) [+18pts]

    1 more OT loss [+1pt]

  6. I play in a beer league (mostly 30/40/50yr olds), and there are plenty of female players. If anything, I see them get less sympathy from the refs than the men (they get pushed around and penalties not called, when it would get called against a male player). While that last bit is anecdotal, the female players don't ask for any special treatment. The female players on my team have been some of the best skaters I've played with.

I think the idea of not allowing a female to play with men based on gender (in a recreational/"beer" league), is absolutely ludicrous, backwards, and not excusable in any culture deeming itself "modern"

  7. IMO, this move only became the "right" move when UPL (and the Sabres defensive structure) proved it could provide adequate NHL goal prevention.

IMO, this is symptomatic Adams and DG "learning on the job." They may have thrown away an entire season doing so.

With that said, I hope they call Levi back up for back-to-backs, or if UPL needs a rest. Unless some think Comrie is better than we think, and the improved Sabres defensive structure could support him?

I really hope this doesn't backfire.    Achilles recovery is no joke, there's countless cases of athletes returning to competition too soon because they feel great, only to re-injure themselves and never be the same.

My hope was they would proceed cautiously and keep him out until Feb at the earliest.     Fingers crossed.

The fact that he's young is a big thing he has going for him
