  1. Sam very comparable to Wennberg of Columbus who just signed for 6 years at almost 3o million or 5mil cap hit.  I think we can almost guarantee that sometime through the season either Kane, Reinhart, or maybe even Okposo gets traded.

  2. I am really looking at this as a replacement for Kane. I think he will head out west to either LasVegas, Vancouver, Anaheim or LA as an UFA after this year.  It only make sense for Buffalo to trade him now while his value is good.

If he has an awesome year 30-40 goals he is going to want 7-8 million a year in which Buffalo will not be able to afford.  If he has a bad year and only scores 20 goals he would still want 6 million.  If he is not scoring his trade value goes down from where it is now.

  3. Revisiting this topic since Duchene is still in Colorado.  How about a three way team trade.

    Buffalo sends Kane to Vancouver.

Buffalo sends Baptiste, Moulson and Falk to Colorado.

Vancouver sends Colorado Tanev and 2nd rd pick.

Colorado sends Buffalo Duchene and Comeau.

So from Buffalo's standpoint you trade Kane, Baptiste, Moulson, and Falk for Duchene and Comeau.

From Colorado's standpoint you trade Duchene and Comeau for Baptiste, Moulson, Falk, Tanev, and a 2nd rd pick.

From Vancouver's standpoint you trade Tanev and 2nd rd pick for Kane.

  4. Total goals for team last year was 199.

    Eichel- 32

    Kane- 28

    Okposo- 27

    Reinhart- 23

    ROR- 22

    Pom- 14

    Girgensons- 12

    Larsson- 11

    Pouliot- 10

    Risto- 10

    Fasching- 7

    Moulson-7

    Josefson- 6

    Bailey- 6

    Scandella- 5

    Baptiste-5

    Bogosian- 4

    McCabe- 4

    Beaulieu- 3

    Antipin- 3

    Guhle- 2

    Nylander- 2

    Gorges- 1

    Delo- 1

    Falk- 1

    total- 246

  5. Just rewatched the Dec.13 game against LA where Sabres won 6-3.  Interesting line combos that night. Okposo on RW with Eichel and Reinhart on RW with ROR.  I like this combo the best. I just like Okposo's tenacity and offensive puck possession.

    Kane- Eichel- Okposo

    Girgensons- ROR- Reinhart

    Pouliot- Larsson- Pomms

    Moulson- Josefson- Bailey

    Scandella- Risto

    McCabe- Bogo

    Beaulieu- Antipin

  6. And notice how Duchene is still in Colorado?? Until Sakic comes down in his asking price he will be stuck with Duchene until trade deadline of his UFA year.

Would you be interested in Landeskog?

  7. There's a reason Duchene hasn't moved yet, and it's because it would cost us

    Nylander + Risto + ??

And no, that's not an exaggeration

Are you kidding me...it would not take that much to get Duchene.  He clearly is not going to sign an extension with Colorado and he becomes a UFA in two years.  Colorado is rebuilding and they want to save money and build for the future.

Remember last year how Hall got traded from Edmonton to Jersey for Larsson.

That is like us getting Duchene for McCabe.

So this proposal is a lot better for Colorado then what Edmonton got, and I would argue that Hall is better then Duchene.

  8. I know the rumor was started on HockeyBuzz who I don't trust. It was also talked about on Instigators by Rivet and Peters, but this morning I began to think why not?

So ROR's last year with Colorado he played with Duchene and they both had their best years as pros.

    ROR- 28 goals, 36 assist= 64 points

    Duchene- 23 goals, 47 assist= 70 points

So who would Buffalo have to give up, and would they be able to keep him long term past the two years he is signed for? Would they be able to keep Kane and Duchene?

Colorado is going no where for the next couple of years and wants prospects.

Nylander, any D prospect not named Guhle, and conditional pick in 2020 for Duchene?  If he resigns with Buffalo it becomes a first rd pick in 2020, if he is not resigned then it is a third rd pick.

    Lineup-

    Duchene- Eichel- Okposo

    Kane- ROR- Reinhart

    Pouliot- Josefson- Pomminstein

    Girgensons- Larsson- Bailey

  9. WOW I must be the only one on this thread that is not a complete Homer but pays attention to the entire league.  Jack is awesome and deserves to be paid. But not at McDavid money, or even above 10 mil.  Pittsburgh is prime example of having star players take good contracts and not get overpaid so they can have a competitive team around them.  Chicago on the other hand has faltered the last few years because they don't have enough good players to compliment their stars who are both making over 10mil.

I get the argument that the cap will be going up, but we don't know at what pace.  Again look at LA and Chicago, overpaid and now suffering.

  10. I think this contract will really tell us what type of person Jack is.  If it is about winning and building a great team to contend for the cup, then he signs for 8-9 million.  If he is all about the money then he wants more than 9 million.

I can't justify paying someone who has been in the league for two years more than this list of players.

    Crosby (3 cups- 8.7 million)

    Malkin (3 cups- 9.5 million)

    Stamkos  (8.5 million)

    Benn (9.5 million)

    Kuznetzov (7.8 million)

    Tarasenko (7.5 million)

All of these guys are signed for at least the next five years.  All of these guys are proven players who carry their team. If Jack wants more than any of these players I think Botts should hold off and wait till next off season. He still would be an RFA so he couldn't go anywhere.

DOn't get me wrong, I want Jack to be on this team for a long time, but I want it at the right price.

DON'T OVERPAY JUST BECAUSE HE WANTS A CONTRACT LIKE MCDAVID!!!!!

  11. The eight year contract would be guaranteed money and if that is the way Jack and Botts go, it should be around 9 million.  Maybe a little high for the next couple of years but will be a bargain for the last years on the contract.

If Jack wants more money, than Botts should push for a bridge deal that would pay 7.5 for the next three years and tell him he can get his 10+ on his next contract.

  12. I'm still under the belief that Kane will sign an extension some time during the season as he proves he fits in Housley's system.  I think it needs to be noted that Jbot is not even talking about extension with Reinhart.  I firmly believe that Kane will be the one that signs a 5 year contract while Sam gets a two year bridge deal or may even get traded.

Looking around the league the two most comparables are Lucic and Foligno and they are both at 6 AAV.

I think a 5 year extension at 30 -32 million is about right.

  13. I agree that I would love to have both players for the next five years. Financially can the Sabres pull it off.

Let's say they lock up Eichel for 8 years at 10 a year.

ROR AAV is 7.5 and expires in 2023

Okposo AAV is 6 and expires in 2023

Risto AAV is 5.4 and expires in 2022

Bogo AAV is 5.1 and expires in 2020

That is 35 mil tied up in only 5 players

I think Botterill is waiting until after this year on Reinhart not only just to evaluate his play himself but also to be able to see what happens with younger players development.

If they can get Kane signed for 4 years AAV of 6.5 say (6,6,7,7) he would still be 29 and can sign a larger contract as the salary cap goes up.  With the type of reckless game he plays I don't want Kane on a long term contract.

  14. Who do the fans want going forward long term for the next 7 years? I don't think the Sabres can't financially get them both signed long term.

The Johnson signing in Tampa was good for the Sabres because at 7 years 35 million that is only an average of 5 million a year.

    Looking at career stats-

    Kane- 496 games, 157 goals, 143 assist, 300 points, .60 pts/game, -41(+-)

    Reinhart- 167 games, 40 goals, 50 assist, 90 points, .53pts/game, -20(+-)

    Johnson- 308 games, 89 goals, 122 assist, 211 points, .69pts/game, +58(+-)

If Botterill can get both to sign before the year starts for reasonable contracts then I can see them both staying.  I just don't want to overpay.

Reinhart at a bridge deal of two years 8 million. Still would be a RFA. It would be a couple years for him to prove he is worth a long term contract in the 6-7 million range. It also would keep his AAV down until Pomminstein and Moulsson contracts expire.

I would only sign Kane to a 5 year extension for Okposo type numbers around 6-6.5 million a year. Again if Kane wants longer term and higher AAV I would trade him before the season starts to get someone else in here right away.

Could we sway a Kane to LA trade for Tanner Pearson?

  15. Jussi Jokinen, Lauri Korpikosky, and Viktor Stalberg are 3 UFA LWs that would be available for cheap, that I think would be able to help shore up our left side depth. Speed is a common attribute amoung these three. Any interest?

These 3 are in addition to the heavily discussed Vanek.

I like Jokinen on a one year 1 million contract. Could be third line LW and play PK and PP. I also remember him being good at shoot outs.

  16. Kane - O'Reilly - Okposo

    Pouliot - Eichel - Reinhart

    Moulson - Larsson - Pominville

    Girgensons - Josefson - Bailey

    Scandella - Ristolainen

    McCabe - Bogosian

    Beaulieu - Antipin

    Lehner

    Johnson

    (Deslauriers, Gorges, Falk)

That's something like how I see the opening night lineup.

    I think that's a playoffs roster.

    1st line- Kane- ROR- Reinhart

    2nd line- Pouliot- Eichel- Okposo

3rd line- Girgensons- Larsson- Pomminstein  Good in defensive zone and could provide 30-40 goals for the year

    4th line- Moulson- Sorenson- Bailey

  17. They have to be willing to sign. If McDavid gets $13.25 million per year and Eichel convinces himself that he's just as good and he thinks he will prove it this season he's not going to sign and nobody can force him to. Same with Reinhart. Maybe he doesn't want a bridge deal and he tells GMJB where to stick that low ball offer. What if he wants a contract more similar to what Drouin got?

What do you do then? Break their knee caps or threaten to trade them? They can always just wait out the season and get their agent to solicit offer sheets in a year.

Or Reinhart can wait and not sign extention and get hurt and only play half the year and get offered a two year deal for 5million.

  18. But Botterill won't let them get to RFA status because he will sign them to extension before that.

I think Jack signs for 8 year 80 million.

Sam will get 3 year 10 million bridge- show me you can score on more than just the PP
