  1. Never understood why he was brought back after the end of last season.  DG clearly has lost faith in his game as a scorer and never has been someone that plays a two way or even tough to play against game.

KA has to bite the bullet and move him for anything he can get, especially if he is going to call up players from the AHL to play over him.

  2. After Sanderson signing I wanted to compare Sens young core 6 with Sabres young core 6.  Who would you rather have?

Thompson, Cozens, Tuch, Mitts, Dahlin, and Power at around $44 million. (Mitts 6.0, Dahlin 10.5, Power 8.5).

    or

Stutzle, B Tkachuk, Batherson, Norris, Chabot, and Sanderson at around $46 million.

Don't forget Sabres also have Quinn, JJP, Kulich, Savoi, and Benson waiting the wings!!

  3. I'm still under the assumption that Dahlin will get $10-10.5 at eight years.

KA is trying to have Power sign a 3 year bridge around $6 million just like Dahlin did.  If he can produce the numbers over the next 4 years beside Dahlin, the the Sabres will give him the same 8 year $10.5 million as Dahlin.  This won't hurt as much because the cap would have gone up and the Skinner contract is off the books.  This also take Power into his early 30's before he is an UFA instead of 28 years old.

  4. It's just not click bait, but until he signs sometime in the next four months, I will hold out and think it would be a shrewd move by management, as long as Kane would agree.

    So hear me out.

Kane is coming off an injury and many teams won't have cap space.  Kane could come to Buffalo play on the 2nd or 3rd line and 2nd PP, and try and help get his home team to the playoffs. I would rather have Kane than Olofsson.  If the plan is failing miserably and there is no hope for the playoffs, Sabres could still move him to a team at the deadline, and get some future picks.

The revenue from ticket and jersey sales would far outweigh a 1 year $5 million contract.

Let's debate as he does his rehab, until he signs a contract.

Stop lumping me in with others.  I am not starting or part of a “false narrative”, you sound like CNN versus Fox News with those words.

What we know is that Adams is willing to make trades, but not willing to give up the pieces other teams ask for.  He has said that himself.

My opinion is that Adams is taking a big risk by not addressing goaltending beyond the rookie Levi.   Let’s see how it this plays out.   Maybe UPL or Comrie will give us 35 good games and Levi can go 55.  Maybe.

My opinion is that he has added some help to the defense in Clifton and E Johnson, but he also added Lyubushkin and Stillman last season and neither has panned out.

As for all of his trades of our past core, that looks like good work so far.  Vegas has a Cup, Florida a Presidents trophy and a Cup final appearance, and Buffalo has an improving team with lots of prospects.

Sure, in 3+ years he has improved the roster, not like that is a huge accomplishment in the hockey world, it’s not.  New Jersey did it.   Florida did it.  Avalanche did it before them.  Ottawa and Detroit are right there with Buffalo in their rebuilds.  Improving from last place is expected, and not a miracle accomplishment.   Being a playoff team is the next step for this team and I fully expect him to make the correct moves to get us there this year.  It is time.

You don’t know that staying the course is the correct move for this season and you don’t know what trades were on the table and passed on.  If staying the course is the correct move for right now we will soon find out.

I do know with absolutely certainty that the core we have now needs to be supported, and that this team does not have roster spots for all of the high level prospects should a reasonable number of them pan out.  At some point trades will happen.

Exactly...in order to improve your team you have to take risks.  If you are hoping to have 5-7 prospects turn into stars so you want to hold onto them, then you end up losing some anyway because you can't afford them all.  You trade your star for prospects or picks so that doesn't end up helping your current team.  Most successful teams are trading picks and prospects to fill out and balance their current roster.  This is where Buffalo is currently at.  Sabres need to be getting the complimentary pieces to support Dahlin, Power, Thompson, Tuch, Cozens, Skinner, and even Mitts.  Too many young players learning and making mistakes only hurts the current core from getting over the hump.

Looking back on the Reinhart deal so many people were upset until it turned into Levi and Kulich!!!

KA needs to look at Kulich, Savoi, Benson, Rosen, Paltopv, Neuchev and Östlund and realize they will not all be Sabres.  Move one or two along with futre picks and improve your team now.  You don't have to wait until the trade deadline and overpay.

    None of the above

What is your solution?  Just keep drafting top tier guys that all have the same skill set?

There were easier and frankly smarter ways to reduce the logjam on D to get us to 23 players without trading away our 6th or 7th best defender, such as getting rid of Bryson and waiving Clague back to Rochester. Instead, he traded away our highest salaried depth D and kept lesser players with lesser salaries.  You can argue that Bush had the most trade value of the depth D, but the goal this season, I thought, was to field the best possible team, not to save a few bucks.

But does this savings help add depth to the offense?

    As others have said, none.

There is a case to be made that prospects are overvalued,  BUT that doesn't mean they have no value and can be just thrown around for the sake of making a move.

All of the above options to me are very close to 'making a move' for the same of wanting to make a move.

Someone posted something a little while ago saying how fanbases and teams tend to love their prosects too much, and that many of them won't turn out to be something great.  You can use that to support NOT trading them.  If only 1 out of 3 or 1 out of 4 of them work out, you can say you want to hold onto them so you that actually get the ones that work out. If your team is constructed properly, you don't need all your prosepcts to pan out, but you want to have enough of them that the ones that do work out are there to plug into your lineup going forward.

I guess I have always looked at it the opposite.  I am trading the prospect for someone who has already worked out and become a great player.  Isn't that better than having the hopes that a prospect will work out!!

  9. I wanted to put some SabreSpacers at ease with our goalie situation to start the year. If Adams and Granato start the year with the 3 headed monster could it work?  I looked at the numbers from last year and with the improvement in the defense Sabres fans are hopeful it means an improvement in the goaltending.  My thesis is solely based on points earned for games started last year.  This projection is soley based on prediction for games played by each during next year.

    Goalie- games started-  W-L-T=Pts

    Levi- 40 GS                  24-12-4=52pts

    UPL- 25 GS                  13-9-3= 29pts

    Comrie- 17 GS               8-8-1= 17pts

That gives Sabres 98 points on the year.

11-7 is rare, but not unheard of.  Proponents of the 11-7 allocation argue that it gives top-liners a little extra ice time and make the defence more resilient to injuries in-game.

Having said that, I do not think it is the best use of the Sabres' players.  Because I expect the allocation to be 12-8-3, I think they are almost forced to do 11-7 in game.

Exactly...with the uncertaintyin the goaltending to start the year I can see them carrying 3 for the first month or so.  With 9 NHL defenseman, I see them sending Bryson to AHL if/when he clears waivers. Stillman would be the lone d scratch and let Joker, Cliffton, Bush, and Johnson split time depending on game situation behind Dahlin, Power and Mule.

Also, since it is the beginning of the season throwing a couple double shifts to Thompsson, Cozens, Tuch, Skinner, and Mitts can also spread the offense around the top lines.
