Of course they would but who knows what Byram is in 2-3 years

Anchoring his own pair after they trade Power, because they won’t pay both Bryam and Power.

What is Power worth in trade?

  2. I’ve been thinking about this question and ultimately it’s about bringing in the right vets.

Where would the 05-07 teams be without Teppo, Grier, Lydman and Drury?

They still have to have tread on the tire.  They must fill an important role on the ice and don’t necessarily have to be leaders off the ice.

Guys like Drury that change the culture of an organization are few and far between.

The Sabres need better center play, better physical play, better D zone coverage, better coaching and better roster construction. Can a few vets fix all that?

  3. The addition of Bryam and the subtraction of KO and EJ have certainly helped the pace of play.  Bryan more than anyone else.  He plays an attacking style and he is dragging the rest of the roster with him.

Mitts wasn’t an issue either way.  He excelled last year when the pace of play was higher and he is doing fine with Colo’s up tempo game as well.

VO looks better.  Makes you wonder if DG gave him the RK doghouse treatment because DG was smart enough to utilize him properly.

With some supplementation from the outside to the forward ranks in a meaningful way this offseason I think this trade could end up a Whopper of a great deal for us

Who are they going to bring in to elevate the forward group and where will that person play?  8 of the top 9 are under contract and for unknown reasons DG & KA think Krebs is a good hockey player.  They even think Girgensons is a "special" hockey player.  When they re-sign Z and Robinson, that leaves exactly one forward spot open in the top 12 for next year.  How is running back nearly the entire failing forward group "a meaningful" change?

To make meaningful change you need to move on from Skinner and Krebs, find someone like Boone Jenner for the 3rd line center spot and bring in a playmaking wing (such as Zegras) to ignite the offense.  That ain't happening.  They won't move on from Skinner which means they won't have the money or a willingness to spend the assets to bring in any upgrades into the top 9.  It's depressing.

Remember their mantra, build from within.

Krebs isn’t the answer at 3c. It are you really complaining that we only scored 4 goals by forward and 7 overall? Can’t we enjoy a blowout?

I loved the blow out.  It was the best first 40 minutes the team played this season.  However, no one can watch that forward group and be happy with their play overall.  Tonight Greenway and Benson were excellent.  Tuch had a good game.  However, these forwards as a group have an incredibly hard time creating offense this season.  KA is going to need to invest in a couple of centers, but I don't think he has it in him.

  6.  I will admit that Byram has played his tushy off since arriving in Buffalo.  His aggressive style is helping activate the entire D group.  His excellent play also makes you wonder about Power.

Krebs stepping in for Casey is a joke.  Downgrading from Casey to Krebs has created a Grand Canyon size hole in the forward group.  Even with the bombardment in the 1st two periods tonight, most of the playmaking was creating by Byram and Dahlin.  3 of the 7 goals were by D again tonight.  2 of the forwards goals were unassisted after great plays by Tuch and JJP.

Has Donny finally figured it out, or is this dumb luck because Kyle and EJ are gone so he has to use different skaters. The line combos and ice time per player indicate he’s reassessed his players, at least Skinner…

Byram is a big piece.  He attacks every shift and this is something the Sabres need and have needed.

It's also getting rid of dead wood, which is something I was hoping KA would do last summer and I hope he does this coming summer.

  8. Can someone explain where that jump was for the prior 60 games?

Byram is very good at hockey.  The forwards are still a mess, but Byram, Dahlin and the rest of the D group are really stepping up their game.  That said, I thought Benson and Greenway may have played their best games of the season tonight.

I would have liked to see the team step up and protect UPL a little better.

Have we not learned anything about Adams at this point? What is the cheapest and worst route to take with the goaltending?  Why a combo of UPL/Levi of course.  Instead of letting Levi develop properly, Adams will anoint him the backup and sign someone like Tokarski as his starter in Rochester and emergency replacement in case someone gets hurt.

People don't like this post, but bad news folks this is exactly what Adams and Granato alluded too at todays STH call.  Sorry.

Have you watched Zegras? Who cares about the draft report it's All about evidence now and he's a All about his cockiness and his fancy moves and celebrations he's no team player

And hes not even part of  The leadership core I wonder why ..

So he's not a good hockey player because he's cocky?  He's not a team player because he celebrates?  Wow.  We could use some cocky here in Sabreland. We could use someone who gets under peoples skin and then produces.  He has been Ana's leading scorer the last 2 years.  His possession metrics are excellent in his 4 year career including this season in limited play this season do to injury.

Cockiness aside, I can't find any article that says he is a bad teammate, a bad person or a locker room cancer.  In fact, it's quite the opposite.

And Ducks head coach Greg Cronin also came to his protégé’s defense in an interview with Arpon Basu (The Athletic) :

Outside of the media, he’s a player who’s very focused on the team’s success [ …] He’s an incredible teammate. – Greg Cronin

This is a guy who Ana teammate Troy Terry described as "the most skilled player I've ever played with," and who Mason McTavish described "He's a confident guy. Guys in here obviously think he's unbelievable."

The articles also describe how he is working to round out his game, something more than a few Sabres forwards could benefit from.

Remember this is a kid who carried the US with 18 points in 7 games to a gold medal in the 2021 WJC over the Canadian Squad that featured Cozens, Levi, Byram, Krebs and Quinn.  The next best US player had 8 points.

I think you needs to stop reading the HFboards.

I’d still say he’s elite unless you want to say the same about Pasta in Boston.

LOL.  Pasta has been great since his 3rd season in Boston and has never even had a hint of an off year since.  The guy has 710 points in 658 games and while he has always been an elite goal scorer, he has become an elite playmaker.

This season, without Bergeron, Pasta has 40 goals in 66 games, and has added 53 assists.  This follows his 113 point season last year.  Pasta in a top 10 forward in the NHL.  TNT isn't even in the same universe as a player.  Tage's 97point season was an aberration.

    Don’t do it.

No guts no glory and you wonder why nothing changes here.  KA sent away our only playmaker and our forwards have scored 1 even strength goal in the last 3 games.  Everything negative about this kid in this thread is BS.  He goes to the net, creates, and has a high compete level.

This is from the Draft analyst  https://www.thedraftanalyst.com/2019-nhl-draft/2019-draft-profile-c-trevor-zegras/

He is both crafty and fancy with the puck, and his passes almost always are on the tape with authority. Zegras’s pass accuracy remains consistent anywhere on the ice and he’s just as dangerous threading the needle while manning the half wall as he is in open ice. His ability to stickhandle while keeping his head up allows him to be the first to identify trailers or back-door cutters, and Zegras will use no-look centering passes on the power play to exploit an open passing lane. He’s also capable of tricking goalies with a hard, accurate shot that he can tuck under the bar from bad angles.

Zegras plays engaged with or without the puck and stays in motion in all three zones. He locks in on the puck regardless of where it is or whether or not he’s in control. Once he’s corralled it, Zegras can use a variety of stutter steps, gear changes or pirouettes to motor past, around or through traffic. His agility is outstanding, and he always seems to make the right reads when anticipating puck travel. Zegras is a strong, agile skater with very good straight-line speed who can stay low to the ice and maintain his elite balance as he zips through the neutral zone into opposing territory. His zone entries are surgical and designed to create time and space while maintaining possession. He is very good on faceoffs and will play physical along the boards. Zegras also has a mean streak and will get involved in scrums after the whistle.

Tell me, what forward on the Sabres does anything listed in this scouting report?  Our forwards are bad at zone entry, lousy passers, aren't very physical and do a poor job of creating offense.  Since we are insistent on using Cozens and TNT in the middle, it's fortunate that Zegras plays LW.

I'd make a deal right now.  I'd even include Power in the discussion.
