I just don't want to overpay. Of course I would take him at the right price but that is not how free agency works. This franchise will be better off in the long run by not over paying and getting hitched to players on the back half of their career. I don't think this is a defeatist attitude, I think it's prudent.

I started watching in the 2nd period. Overall I thought the Sabres were playing much better as a team. We all know it would have been a loss if it went to a shootout so I wasn’t too disappointed in the outcome. We got a point (and Lenny didn’t have to embarrass himself in the shootout). I was really impressed with Wilson’s speed. I think he will be worth the 5th rounder. It was also nice to see him get his first point. Jack was playing with some determination. He needs to work on his penalty shot (along with the entire team). E-rod is a nice addition now that he is back in the line-up. I actually liked how the lines looked last night and I can say I haven’t felt that way all year. Unfortunately, i think the hole they’ve dug is too deep but it would at least be nice to watch competitive hockey for the rest of the season. Go Sabres!

I caution us on chasing the big name free agents... although it makes everyone on this board feel warm and fuzzy during the offseason, it hasn’t translated to wins for Buffalo in the past 6-7 years (I’m thinking Leino, Ehrhoff, Okposo). JT may be different than signings in the past. I personally would like to see JBotts do his work, cultivate from within and sign quality depth players. We’re going to need/want the cap space when we actually do become a playoff caliber team to sign the missing piece that puts us over the top (and it may not come cheap).

Agree with many posts, best team performance I've seen in quite some time. They looked motivated. Lehner was stellar, 20 seconds from a shutout. I'm happy with this one. On to Montreal! Let's continue the momentum! Go Sabres!
