  1. Vanek should have been let go years ago when Edmonton signed him to an offer sheet. One of the worst moves in Sabres history was when the Sabres matched it. However, when they traded him to the Islanders it was one of the best moves in Sabres history. He is gone from Buffalo forever thank goodness!

Imo, he was kept was due to Darcy fudging things up w/ Drury and Briere. If one of them were kept, Buffalo may have passed on Edmonton's offer to Vanek. Fans would have been in a complete uproar had the Sabres lost all 3 players.

  2. I wouldn't sign that lazy player.

    Definition of lazy:

    1. averse or disinclined to work, activity, or exertion; indolent

    2. causing idleness or indolence

    3. slow moving; sluggish

Prime example: Person known as Thomas Vanek

    Picture of lazy:

  3. Chiarelli met with McClellan to discuss a potential hire. Nothing major, but it does seem weird that GMTM hasn't at least met with other coaching candidates. I hope this doesn't become a case where he's too fixated on the big prize to prepare for not getting it (i.e. McDavid)

If he is set on Babcock, I hope he doesn't go public about it. Remarks he made about McDavid during season/after draft were a complete....

  4. Man, I'm hoping Babcock ends up in Buffalo. It'd attract free agents and increase the chances of Eichel leaving BU. The Eichel remark coming from many, certainly not all, Buffalo Sabres/Bills fans. Regularly having some type of worry or concern. I fall w/ the fans that manage to find some type believe it when I see it.

  5. For me, at the point he gets charged we start to look pretty bad. But last I knew (and I'm not totally up on the story), the police hadn't even formally named him a suspect. Could be wrong on that though.

He hasn't been declared a suspect. However, to my understanding the police spoke w/ him yesterday. I highly doubt they'd make an "on the spot" decision to not name him as a suspect. May take a few days. And who knows, some type of evidence may turn up in the very near future. If Collins is clean, I hope the Bills can sign him. Enticing reasons for Collins to sign w/ Buffalo is the guaranteed playing time and Pegula's short history of willingness to put up the big bucks. If Miami lands him.... :wallbash:

  6. If Whaley trades back into first or moves up in the 2nd for a qb, he's dead to me.

Agreed. Don't see it happening though. After Winston and Mariota, there isn't a qb in this draft that can be considered a starter in their rookie season. Man, even Mariota is receiving doubt about him starting this year.

  7. Anyone watching the draft tonight? I understand the Bills do not have a 1st round pick, but who knows what Whaley or should I say Pegula may try to do. I was shocked/excited w/ the aggressive trade to move up for Watkins. I haven't been paying attention to the pre-draft rankings. Is there an offensive lineman that could have an immediate impact? If not, the Bills should stay where they are at.

  8.

Hope he says something to raise an eyebrow. It would be great if Babcock mentioned he'd like to continue his career w/ the Redwings, but is wanting to see what's out there. In my opinion, that implies he has already considered the thought of coaching a team w/ some type of historic NHL value and/or a team on verge of success w/ the youthful talent it has. If it's the latter, Babcock will focus on Edmonton and Buffalo. The Sabres are closer to being a successful team than the Oilers. However, Edmonton has McDavid. That may be the reason Babcock signs w/ the Oilers. July 1st can't come fast enough.

*Detroit has arguably the most historic NHL value.

  9. Buffalo News sports = Tabloid. The Sabres could win the Stanley Cup and they'd still write something negative to boost/maintain ratings. I couldn't tell you the last time I read one of their articles.

  10. I voted for Seattle. Haven't had a chance to read previous postings, but putting a team in the west would help balance conference play. Also would enjoy the Panthers moving to Quebec. Hartford would be interesting, but Canada, in my opinion, needs another team. Of course the NHL may prefer a team to remain the States. Most of the money made comes the gold ol' US of A, right?

  11. Are we even sure the NHL will participate in the 2018 Olympics? It's in Korea.

Owners don't want it. Players haven't really expressed an opinion yet. Tavares got injured last year. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Id like it if NHL players continue to play in the Olympics.

Flyers owner has been very against the players being in the Olympics for a number of reasons.

  12. Columbo. The Rockford Files. Goon. The Last Gladiators. (The last two are FANTASTIC hockey movies.)

Goon is awesome. Picked it up on DVD right away. Haven't seen The Last Gladiators. Have to surf Netflix for that one.

  13. Teaching physical education and coaching cross country and track. Love my job. Many kids do not realize what they are capable of. In fact, a number of them find a talent they never knew they had. What makes the job very enjoyable is when a kid sets a personal record in their event. The smile on their face is priceless. It has nothing to do w/ what place they come in. Another great thing about coaching is the indirect message of the importance of having a strong work ethic. Sure, many kids will realize they have to have complete dedication to reach their full potential in the event(s) they participate in. After doing this, they begin to apply it other parts of their life. And yes, that includes education. Teaching/coaching is a great job to have.

  14. Sabres blueline in two years.  All day, erry day.

As they say, build from the goalie out. Buffalo's defense is going to be scary good very soon. May possibly, if they reach their potential, have one of the better group of centers in NHL. Having Girgenson, Kane, Ennis and Moulson on the wings form a quality top 6. Time will tell. Major question mark is goaltending. There is no telling of what Murray has in mind. I have a lot of faith in the guy.

  15. Honestly see Eichel going w/ 15. He's worn it before, and I'm quite sure he doesn't want to have much in common w/ McDavid. Even though McDavid will be wearing 97, I highly doubt Eichel will go w/ any number in 90's, particularly 96. He seems to be the type of guy that wants to prove people wrong. Eichel's level of confidence is through the roof. All this love for McDavid across the NHL has to be ticking him off and giving him even more reason to play 110% from start to finish.

And here's a quote from Steve Prefontaine. Suits Eichel perfectly. He probably hasn't heard it before, but it's one I like to think he'd believe in.

"To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift."

  16. Tim Murray apparently.  The man needs to do a mia culpa saying he is sorry about any negative feelings he might have created towards Jack E and do a little grovelling.  It would really suck if Sabres lost Jack to.  Can he not declare for the draft?

According to SBNation, EIchel does not have to declare himself for the draft.

"The NHL entry draft is one of universal eligibility. If you're 18 and real (or not), you are eligible to be drafted into the NHL. One doesn't have to "declare"."

  17. I don't wan to put a damper on anyone's day, but, we're going to get Jack Eichel. 16 hours and 45 minutes later and I am still pretty excited about. I may buy my first Sabres jersey, not off the clearance rack, in a long long time. My last "new" Sabres jersey had Fuhr sewn on the back.

I've never purchased a Sabres jersey w/ a name on the back. With Eichel coming to the Sabres I feel the time has come. His name on the back and whatever number he has. Kane wears number 9, so Eichel may have to go w/ something else. Waiting for all of that to go down.

  18. And it's Jack to the Future!

Seriously, don't understand why people are upset Buffalo didn't land McDavid. Yes, he's the best, but Eichel is a scary good player. Give the guy some credit. The tank was for 'McEichel', not McDavid. The tank has been accomplished. Now let's look forward to the draft and free agency. We're going Jack to the Future!
