  1. I'm teetering between apathy and anger with respect to this team.

A huge part of me doesn't care.  I watch less than a period of most games after having watch literally every minute of every game the past several years.

The other part of me is mad.  Mad at these players.  Instead of falling in love with the young guys and this team, I don't like them because they simply don't care and fail to even put forth legit effort.

In my 20+ years as a fan, I can honestly say, I've never felt worse about a team and at the same time cared less.

    Sad.

  2. I certainly hope so.  Three things that absolutely frustrate me to no end when I watch this team is how slowly they seem to process the game (i.e. no quick puck movement/passing, no consistent sense of anticipation), how they have zero gap control, and how they always try to play the puck instead of the man in front of the net.

Couldn't agree more, power play and D-zone exits are great examples of where skating speed isn't the issue, but ability to quickly process the game, make a decision and execute a pass or a shot

They are the worst passing team I can recall

  3. Does anyone know the 2018-19 cap implications if Moulson retires ?

1- If he reports and no buyout, cap hit is $4.125M

    2- If he gets bought out it's $3.667M ($.667M in 2019-20)

    3- Retires ?

  4. this will be my last negative post on the goaltending because i dont want to sound like a broken record (nearly all of my non-joke posts are goaltender hating up to now).

the sabres need to do some kind of change in net. you cant expect to win giving up 3 to 4 goals per game. they seem to give up that many in most of his games and it only because of the silly amount of scoring the sabres do that they have the few wins that they have. other than the 1-0 win they had a couple of nights ago, there has been silly high scores.

if this team could get a real goaltender and a couple of good defense minded defenseman i think the team could be great. lehner will give up a goal on any shot not headed directly at him. i honestly think its time to cut bait and move on. whether it be by bringing up ullmark and giving him a shot or by trade.  do you think its possible to trade kane for a really good goaltender or not really.

Did you watch the game ?

I have my issues with Lehner, but, he played very good.  Might have let up 1 weak goal, but probably made 10+ great saves

  5. So much of goal tending is what's between the ears.  I just don't see Lehner having the mental fortitude to be a true #1 on a playoff team.

I think his mental game is weak.  JBot realized this and signed him for 1-year and traded a 4rd to VGK to protect Ullmark after CP didn't sign.

Still surprised that Petersen didn't sign, he had a relatively clear path to #1 goalie in 1-2 years, while in LA, it's Quick's net for 5-6 years.  CP won't see that net until 2022.

  6. Trolls love an audience...

If you ignore it, it doesn't exist.

    Agree

The guy probably spent all of the tank year ranting and raving about needing to lose to get Eichel, probably bought his Eichel jersey the day they went on sale, he even wears it to local bar; then when there is any sign of trouble, he starts crapping on the guy, the team, the coach and the organization.

    Go back in your hole.

  7. Good questions, I was thinking "Who the f is Steve Moses"

A quick google yielded these results - the article didn't have a time-stamp so I'm not sure when this happened:

Rochester Americans General Manager Randy Sexton announced today that the team has signed forward Stevie Moses to a one-year American Hockey League contract.

Moses returns to North America after spending last season with St. Petersburg SKA of the Kontinental Hockey League, posting 10 points (3+7) in 24 games. A 27-year-old native of Leominster, Mass., Moses split the 2015-16 campaign between St. Petersburg and the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL), totaling 23 points (12+11) in 37 games.

Moses also registered 118 points (70+48) over three seasons (2012-15) with Jokerit Helsinki, including career-highs in goals (36) and points (57) during the 2014-15 campaign, and has nine points (4+5) in 24 career AHL games with Connecticut and Milwaukee.

Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-9, 170-pound forward played four years at the University of New Hampshire (H-East), where he amassed 98 points (47+51) in 148 career games for the Wildcats. Moses led all UNH skaters in goals and points as a senior and was a two-time Hockey East All-Academic selection.

Rochester begins its 62nd season in the American Hockey League on Friday, Oct. 6 against the Syracuse Crunch at The Blue Cross Arena. Amerks Season Ticket Memberships for the 2017-18 campaign, which start as low as just $12 per game, are on-sale now. Count me uninspired and a bit confused as to why he skates ahead of the other RW prospects at training camp.

    Maybe a late bloomer

  8. Good post, but what's with the lack of periods?

I kinda think it is a liability, especially in OT and 4-on-4 situations.

He had 30 goals the season before last.

As for Guhle, I'd like to see how he develops, but I think he's getting a bit overhyped.  I cringe every time I hear Hammy rave about him -- comparing his skating to Paul Coffey, saying he "dominated" the prospects tournament -- both are ridiculous assessments, IMHO.

    Good call.

    I. don't. know. I. think. it's. saving. characters. from. texting. too. much.

  9. Well, I agree on Moulson (kinda wasn't including him in current Sabres forwards, but I'm happy to concede on that), but not on Larsson, ROR or KO.

I agree that Larsson, ROR and KO aren't particularly fast -- which is one of the reasons that a Reino-for-Duchene swap, which would clearly upgrade team speed, is interesting.

Not to muddy the waters, but usually when someone says he's an "average" anything at the pro level, means he's below average -- the fact that Moulson, Larsson were mentioned and ROR and Okposo were offered, says right away that more are faster than are slower

Having said that, speed alone is not the measuring stick

He might be slower but he probably plays faster because of his footwork, agility and most importantly his hockey IQ

Similar to a WR in football, I don't pay too much attention to a straight line 40-speed as I do at how fast does he run on the field when he rarely goes straight and always has defenders draped all over him

  10. It doesn't bother you that Duchene scored less than Samson last year already?

I'm worried about Matt, in the 5-6 Avs games I saw, he was bad. Like, a big part of why they were so bad

I think the Avs were a toxic environment -- I bet if Duchene is on Avs this season, he'll look really bad

  11. Why add to Reinhart ?  Duchene hasn't proven to be better than him.   If anything Duchene is the floor and Reinhart can be a lot better than him.

If you think Reinhart > Duchene then YOU wouldn't add anything to the deal.

I think Duchene is better, so, I'd be okay adding a 1st and 2nd

I think Reinhart has potential to be a top 6, but hasn't quite proven it -- I think a lot of that is the way DB mismanaged him the past 2 years -- but, having said that, I think Duchene is a slam dunk top 6 player -- so, to me, it's worth giving up a couple assets and Reinhart to get him

  12. Would you trade Reinhart, Guhle and a 2nd for Duchene?

No.  I'd trade Reinhart, a 1st and 2nd for him or Guhle and a 1st and 2nd -- but not both Reinhart and Guhle

(Edit): I don't think the Sabres have the assets (Defenseman) that Colorado covets to pull trade off.  I also think too many posters think Sakic (as dumb as he is) will make another bone headed trade, I don't think he will.  It will cost us something big, i.e. Reinhart to get Duchene.  As much as I love Reinhart, Duchene is better.

  13. I don't have links either but there was DEFINITELY discussions about potential locker room issues with the Sabres last year and they were centered around potential rifts between young and old players.  Anyone who was paying attention will remember these.  Talk about short and selective memories.

    (Edit): found a link

    https://thehockeywriters.com/sabres-showing-signs-of-locker-room-turmoil/

As for Kane, he has ALWAYS been known to play hard, he has NEVER been known for practicing hard, BIG difference.  Ultra competitive on the ice during games.  When you talk work ethic, you need to clarify whether you are talking about practice or games.  As for being a cancer or problem in the locker room, I think he was in Winnipeg, I have not heard he ever has been in Buffalo.

Lastly, on Duchene, I love the line that prospects become suspects.  To me, if you can get a proven top 6 forward, you go for it.

  14. Butcher hasn't been met with the intensity of the Vesey watch from last summer, but, I happen to think within this system and especially with our lack of depth at D, Butcher could be a more valuable signing even though Vesey had a slightly higher prospect rating.

If Butcher signs, JBot will have added 4 key pieces to the D corps for next to nothing (sorry, Marcus and Tyler) --- Scandella, Antipin, Beaulieu and Butcher --- add to that depth signing of Tennyson and the hope of Guhle and Housley as coach, we might have a significant upgrade at D (again, from a low starting point)
