  1. Different president positions. Kim won't be doing anything Neely did, hopefully. She'll be designing the fridge schedule magnets. Homage to the late DeLuca!

As usual, pretty tone deaf and even hypocritical. A man lost his job and his family is probably in chaos. Don't worry -- be happy! How humane.

Yes, I celebrate when predators are caught and I have sympathy for their victims.  Make no mistake, there were victims here, there always are in sexual harassment cases.

  2. This might sound like sour grapes coming from a frustrated Sabres fan, and maybe it is, but, Vegas winning proves the NHL is a f**ed up league.  The expansion rules were way too favorable for them.  They got the best of both worlds, a mixture of youth and experience without the headaches all teams deal with regarding the cap and timing of talent in a tight window.

Reminds me of a quote from Jurassic Park:

'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're using here, it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox"

Vegas never had to build anything, develop anything, overcome anything; they simply showed up, went shopping and were given a team that had talent to win.  I give them credit for coaching the team, but, if you ask me, the NHL fast forwarded this franchise 5 years+ to the detriment of the integrity and grit required by other teams to become successful.  It would be a colossal mistake to repeat this with Seattle, but, I'm confident the NHL will

Oh, any while I'm telling the kids to get off my lawn, they are also training their fan base to take winning for granted, when we all know franchises ebb and flow -- let's see the commitment in the fan base with years of losing.

    Yes, I know,  sour grapes

  3. I just finished reading the article on the arena and Brandon. We also have two new state of the art stadiums here in Atlanta. Although I haven’t seen the Sabres in Buffalo in years, I can make some suggestions to make the experience in Buffalo better.

    1) fix the damn team

    2) fix the damn team

    3) fix the damn team

    Also

    4) no excuse for bad maintenance.

    5) lower concession prices. At the Falcons stadium the prices are half of what I’ve seen at other stadiums. Also most of the vendors are local. Local pizza, local BBq, local burger joints and even some local up scale dinning. All at fair prices.

At the Falcons stadium, there is a corridor that is 100 yards long painted to look like a football field. There are bars and concessions with standing tables around pillars with images of the players, with the player’s background and career highlights. TV are everywhere . The ceiling lighting matches the hashmarks on the field and light up to indicate where the ball is.

    6) have 41 events at each home game. T-shirt night, bobbleheads, concerts, youth hockey between periods. I wouldn’t mind a Amerks/Sabres double header. Have an alumni/Sabres double header. Put alumni and current players autograph photos in random programs. Try things to get people willing to come to the games as the team improves, but then keep doing it even after the team becomes a contender.

    7) Do special things for the season ticket holders. Give them the right to buy extra tickets for certain games before they go on sale to the public. Have alumni autograph sessions for the season ticket holders. Whatever.

    8) Lower prices for next season as an apology for this one.

    9) at the new Braves stadium we have an area called the Battery, which is a pedestrian area next to the stadium featuring bars, restaurants and shops. It’s open all year and all time. It is a gathering spot on game days, but we live near the stadium and often go to the battery on non game days for lunch and dinner. Many just go to the battery to hang out even during the games. It’s alot of fun.

    10) Fix the damn team.

    +1

Of course Atlanta has 5X the number of people and about 100X the amount of money.

With that said, most of these are "easy" to do, at least, you think they would be.  I was back visiting family and went to a couple of games, it's depressing.  At a minimum do #4 and #5

Oh, and FIX THE DAMN TEAM !!!!!!

  4. You do know that Okposo has scored at a rate of 2 points every 3 games since we signed him, despite a life-threatening condition?

I have a long list of TM blunders, but KO isn’t on that list and never will be. What is sad is that KO was the perfect type of player to get us to the next level if he had been added to a good team. Sadly he got added to a team with a poor defense and no depth.

I did say "at this point".  His ppg ranks outside the top 100 and his salary ranks inside the top 60, so, he's under-performing based on what he's being paid.  Yes, the team around him sucks and he's dealt with injuries, but bottom line is bottom line.

I also can think of several more egregious GMTM decisions pretty quickly, so, I won't die on my sword on this one

  5. I think his “reputation” was a great excuse by other GMs to low ball Jbot. The truth is despite some early issues here off the ice, he has played hard and well during his time in Buffalo. We also haven’t heard anything about locker-room issues with him other then he got along well with Jack and Sam. It seems he matured a great deal during his time here and that should have been a positive selling point.

I believe Jbot got played pure and simple. At this point it’s water under the bridge. To make lemonade from this deal we have to hope that Kane’s maturity shows in SJ, he plays well and they re-sign him. We also have to hope Danny Boy turns out to be better then Wilson.

Ultimately this failure doesn’t change what this team and Jbot need to do to fix the franchise. It just made it a little harder. We need some serious help from internal prospects. Guhle and Ullmark need to step in next season and make an impact. Mittelstadt, Nylander and Asplund, our three most talented prospects, need to take big step forward next season so that they can make an impact in Buffalo in 2019. It would also be great if a couple of lesser draft picks like Olofsson, Pu, Borgen (if he signs), and Fitzgerald come in and make an impact sooner then later. A top 4 pick this season also wouldn’t hurt.

So how does Jbot whether this time until the farm really starts producing NHL talent? Good question. It start with using our cap space to try to steal a talent or two from cap strapped teams. It starts with finding a bargain or two in FA.

There was that practice a month or so ago when Falk screamed at him saying he was "selfish"

I agree, other than that, the rest of so-called issues the past 1 1/2 years have been unsubstantiated rumors --- unless, of course, teams did homework and found out there was something else out there

  6. Overwhelming consensus is that Buffalo was big loser at deadline.  We can debate who to blame, J Bot, GMTM, Kane, racism etc. etc.

It is what it is.  We got very few assets for the pending UFA's on the team and for a fan base that has suffered over the past several years this only serves to further dampen the faint glimmer of hope.

It's depressing.  Not hopeless, but certainly not encouraging.

  7. Would you say the same for the other teams that traded today and last week?  Only we got offered more a month or 2 ago?

I think if you list all the assets that were moved today and what they yielded in return, objectively you'd say Buffalo got very little

It's completely fair to raise the issue of WHY

Was it J BOT making a bad deal or was that the only deal out there

The committee in defense of this trade can only point to one reason, wait and see --- however, at this time, with the information we have in front of us, it's a bad deal

No Buffalo sports figure deserves the benefit of doubt anymore --- we all collectively gave it to GMTM and got burned, let's have J BOT EARN trust

  8. Are you hoping that people say it would have been better to keep Kane around for the rest of the season?  I am glad he's moved him.  I'll have faith he did the best he could.  There's not enough body of work to suggest otherwise.

No, if this was the best deal out there, from my perspective something is always better than nothing.

My issue, is, I have to think J Bot had a better deal a month or 2 ago and waited hoping to get something even better and it cost him -- or he hoped that waiting for the first trade of deadline (i.e. Nash) would set a higher bar ---

In the end, we got what we got, but in the end, San Jose gave up very little for a legit Top 6 rental

  9. How do any of us have enough information to pass judgment on this trade?  Superficially it can appear one way.  Again, we are not in the business, so we don't know.

It's not like information about moves and trades have not come out days, weeks, months, or even years later that make you rethink why something happened.  So why get bent over something within 30 minutes of it happening as if that's all it will ever be?

J Bot set the expectations to the fan base when he said a 1st, a prospect and a player and I should have known better ?

Suffice it to say, when dealing with Buffalo sports team, LOWER your expectations, WAIT until next year and above all else DRINK HEAVILY !!
