  7. Top Ten All-Time Sabres Goaltenders

    This isn't a list based on stats, or length of service. Nor is it based on what they did when they were not on the Sabres (see Barrasso, Tom; Fuhr, Grant). It's just my opinion on who I think were the ten best goalies the Sabres put on the ice - especially by what they meant to the team.

    I already know many or most of you will disagree but it's just my list.

    1. Hasek

    2. Miller

    3. Edwards

    4. Crozier

    5. Barrasso

    6. Desjardins

    7. Sauve

    8. Biron

    9. Cloutier

    10. Puppa

     

    Honorable Mentions: Malarchuk, Shields, Fuhr, Dryden

    Fun Fact: Matt Hackett is #28 out of the 44 goalies who've ever played (not suited up - sorry Vinz!) for the amount of games played. Below him? Ty Conklin and Rob Stauber.

    Sabres-related notes from the Babcock presser:

    -He praised the Pegulas multiple times

    -He reassured the media that he and Tim Murray are good friends

    -The Sabres offered more according to him

    -Shanahan took multiple shots at Buffalo, saying that if he chose Buffalo they wouldn't attack Babcock's character

    -He said that he couldn't make it worth with his family in Buffalo which makes me think he was settled on coming to Buffalo but his family wasn't

     

    If he's being truthful, then fine - but I was always a Shanny fan and now I am OUT FOR BLOOD.

     

    Please, Sabres Season Ticket Holders - KEEP YOUR LEAF TICKETS - or at least sell them to a Sabres fan!

     

    I may come to the Leafs - Canes games here just to boo them and I hate the Canes!

    YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT THE NHL MAKES ZERO MONEY OFF OF MONTREAL OR TORONTO OR THAT THAT MONEY IS NEGLIGIBLE? REALLY? TELL IT TO THE HABS AND LEAFS WHO ARE SICK OF PROPPING UP FAILED ORGANIZATIONS LIKE THE COYOTES, PANTHERS AND HURRICANES. IT IS A TOPIC EVERY YEAR. I AM GLAD PEOPLE ARE EDUCATING ME ON THE NCAA STATUS THING AS SPORTSCENTRE DIDN'T ANSWER THAT WHAT IF? I HAD MY CONCERNS. NOT SURE WHAT GOALIES ARE AVAILABLE AS FREE AGENTS THIS OFF SEASON. I MISS NEUVIRTH AND ENROTH. I THOUGHT THEY COULD ACTUALLY WORK OUT HERE. I WILL STATE THIS HERE AND NOW. I DO BELIEVE MCDAVID WILL BE BETTER THEN EICHEL (AND HE DOES HAVE WAY MORE TALENT TO PLAY WITH IN EDMONTON THEN IN BUFFALO AND A GOOD COACH NOW) HE WILL PUT UP MORE POINTS THEN EICHEL BUT AGAIN, WE SHALL SEE IF THIS TRUE BUT I AM EXPECTING THAT. AS FOR OVERACHIEVING GOALTENDING, ISN'T THAT WHY ARTURS IRBE IS HERE????? DO CAROLINA, FLORIDA AND ARIZONA GAMES REALLY RAKE IN THE REVENUE TV WISE FOR THE LEAGUE? I MEAN, IF PEOPLE CAN'T BE BOTHERED TO GO THERE, ARE THEY BOTHERED TO WATCH ON TV? EVEN IF THEIR OPPOSITION IS CHICAGO, BOSTON OR NEW YORK? AS FOR TED BEING FIRED BECAUSE OF RESULTS. WHAT OTHER COACH DO YOU KNOW OF THAT HAD HIS STARTING LINEUP SOLD OUT FROM UNDER HIM AND WAS THEN EXPECTED TO 'GET RESULTS"? IT'S LIKE SUPPLYING A HOT DOG VENDOR WITH HAMBURGS THEN SHUTTING HIM DOWN BECAUSE HE COULDN'T GENERATE HOT DOG SALES.

    End of November will be 7-8 weeks in the season. just assessing the style of play they will go to. Not their record of wins/losses. we should be able to see how the PP looks. Puck possession, goaltending, are the panicked or composed, speed etc. not looking at wins/losses at that time or really for next season. Just looking for improvement is all.

     

    if the sabres are not better by the 7-8 week of the season then you will be proven right and karma will have got the sabres. they treated nolan horribly and they didn't do what they could to try to get that last playoff spot and then they lost mcDavid they lost Babcock and the worst thing of all is they lost Nolan who deserved a chance and was never given what he deserved because pat laFontaine told him on the phone that they were going to resign miller and then make big trades to make the playoffs last year and then murray pushed patty out and then none of it happened!! then murray and pegula got rid of miller because battista told them he was no good! They wanted to be bad and get a better pick but there is no guarantee and then the Kings made the playoffs and they won the Cup!! That is how you win the Cup - you don't trade Miller and you have a Nolan on the team in some capacity.I'm still a Sabres fan and were all Sabres fans here i think but other than that PaSabresfan guy none of you see the big picture and you can't see that Terry has done nothing to get the team and now we have nothing!! No mcDavid no Babcock and yeah we have Eickell but he's not that good and he's going to stay at BC for three years and then a graduate year and then hell go to the next team Nolan coaches in the NHL. Hes not that good but if he plays for nolan hell be great because he'll compete even if he is on the fourth line for a long time because this is how you learn!!

    I really hope this is the route they go.

     

    I do too. I hope they trade for more vets on the downside of their career, up to trading the #4 overall pick, and/or trading their # 1 next year. I hope they sign every name free agent out there, and to long term, just like they did for Clarkson. I wouldn't enjoy anything more than Babcock directing them to pick up a bunch of old Detroit players or guys whom he won gold with years ago.

     

    Who wants to bet there is no way they get rid of Phaneuf? I think the only team who would have been willing to take on him and his ridiculous contract is Babcock's Detroit.

    Godspeed, eman. There is this, though, When they start picking on your carriage returns, and the snark replies pick up, you might just have them on the run. Be prepared to be called a troll, or to be told you have a narrative, any moment now.

     

    He does have the potential to be PA Two. Goodness knows we need more of that on this board.   :rolleyes:

    If Tim Murray accepted any trade for Eichel that didn't include McDavid coming back the other way, I'd personally lead the angry mob to FNC. I definitely didn't suffer through the worst two years of my life as a Sabre fan for RNH, Yakupov, and a friggin 1st next year. Words can't describe how bad a trade that would be for the Sabres.

    It's interesting how hockey isn't like the NFL and there aren't hot young assistant coaches on other teams people talk about getting. I'm only hearing about former head coaches and AHL coaches.

    Remember that Lindy was just an assistant with the Panthers before we made him head coach.

    Or... Maybe it works this time.  It'll probably be a good 3 years before we know anything.  Toronto is in for some suffering, that's for sure.  If Babs is able to turn them around without a terrible season or so then he's Hockey Jesus.

    Please.  It's an every fan base thing.

     

     

    Seriously - what else can we do?
