  1. I don't know what to think about Bylsma. I really wanted Todd McLellan or Babcock and I would much rather have Boucher than Disco Dan. This team put all their eggs in one basket for Babs and should have made that same effort for McLellan and now stuck on Bylsma because he's the last of proven coaches. I just don't think he's going to be the guy that gets all these young guys to fully meet their potential.

I'd get on the bandwagon now. Not much else you can do for the next couple of years. I'm optimistic.

  2. The more I think about what I saw from Jack Eichel at the World Championships - the more I think as the kid gets bigger and stronger and more experienced - and he's already great - there aren't going to be many defensemen in the whole league who can handle him. He's going to eat team's third pairing defenses for lunch. Teams are going to have to work hard to try to line match against him - especially when the Sabres are at home. Can you imagine Eichel and Kane cycling the puck?

Then, if teams can get a matchup against Eichel - here comes Reinhart, except with more muscle and more experience than he has now.

Yes, I believe we are going to soon be entering the golden age of Sabres hockey, despite what has happened in the last 45 years.

  3. My impression is there may be some truth to the prima donna take.

What I read between the lines is that it has to do with his background of being an elite Dutch teenage hockey player and being put on a pedestal over there by his helicopter family, who brought him pampered and coddled over here at age 7, to push him into the NHL.

It doesn't play as well with hockey people as the humble eastern European who came over himself on his own at 15.

He sounds kind of exciting. Plus the Sabres could dominate NHL jersey sales in the Netherlands like they already do in Latvia and did in Austria.

  4. Found this description of Conspiracy Theorists. Pasted without comment.

    Powerful Drug

The obsession with conspiracy theories has been compared to an addiction. Once one has delved deeply into this mindset, recovery—a return to balanced, sound thinking—is rare. What motivates a person to immerse himself in them in the first place?

Conspiracy theories are a powerful source of pride and a wellspring of intellectual vanity. The theorist comes to see himself as thinking on a higher plane than the ignorant masses around him. He walks the fringes of society, watching his surroundings with suspicion. No one realizes what’s going on, he thinks.

If speaking his mind on conspiracies causes others to recoil, he simply dismisses them as “dumb sheep” who cannot see what he sees. Every episode like this further reaffirms how special this inside information makes him.

While many conspiracy enthusiasts lack education, the supposed inside knowledge they gain makes them feel superior—one of the elite, enlightened few. “Besides, who needs schools? They’re just brainwashing centers run by ‘the machine,’” right?

Many of these individuals enjoy the thrill of perceived danger that comes along with having supposedly top-secret knowledge, feeling as though they have a lead role in a secret-agent film—except they are not in a movie!

If a reasonable person attempts to point out serious flaws in a theory’s logic, there is a standard response:The conspirators purposely do certain things that appear to counter their goals, just to keep investigators off the trail. Once this idea is accepted, any facts—whether or not they appear to fit the supposed covert scheme—reinforce the theorist’s central idea that “things are not as they seem.”

  5. This whole topic has me thinking - how many truly "elite" coaches are there in today's NHL? Sutter? Quenneville? Cooper? Babcock? There's always fans of those teams who complain.

I definitely think it comes down to players first and coaching second. Do we want too many systems? Not enough? Someone's who's tough? Easy?

I think the most important trait of a head coach for the next couple of years anyway is someone who can teach and develop young players, but wasn't that Rolston's claim to fame, supposedly?

We've had, with the main complaint about their style:

    1. Ruff - supposedly tried to force players to fit into his "system"

    2. Rolston - a big pile of glasses and mush

    3. Nolan - had no use or mind for X's and O's and only relied on "compete"

Is there a perfect balance? I don't know. I'm not sure the last five Stanley Cup winning coaches have much in common. One's already been fired and one is hanging by a thread, maybe.

  6. False

Who has heard anything bad about Swedish women. They have been the gold standard for hotness for decades.

I just meant that everyone says Swedish women are amazing but they are still understating how amazing they are.

  7. I got to spend over a week in Gothenburg when I worked for Volvo Truck. What an amazing city. I can see why someone would be reluctant to leave. I know I was.

And everything you've heard about Swedish women is wrong. They can't do justice with words on how amazing they are. Just beautiful and classy, too.

  8. If I'm Pegula I offer Disco Dan more than Babcock got. Just because he can.

This would be Troll Level One Million - Literally. I love this idea!

Or offer him a disco ball hanging from his office or over the Sabres logo in the dressing room.

    And poutine

They have poutine at (716). It wasn't that great. Not poutine, which is awesome, but their version. It's fine though.

  9. The Sabres do NOT have defensive depth right now. I'm not sure we can afford to just trade away Pysyk or McCabe or Zadarov.

Maybe we'll address it in the draft. I hope so.

  10. It's time to move on from the Babcock thing. Maybe his wife would rather live in Toronto. He's gone and in a worse situation, talent-wise, than he would if he came here. But maybe he does become the great Canadian hero. Oh well. There are other coaches.

Good coach + great young talent + great owner + great GM - too many bad contracts with under-performing almost untradeable players > great coach + Toronto right now

  11. Vlad always does this thread after the draft. He messaged me a few days ago asking that I start one and I planned to do it after the draft with a similar informative format that he did.

But we can just roll with this thread. When is development camp? Anybody know?

I don't want to step on anyone's toes. I just didn't know where to put this.

That's how I found out about this guy - I'm trying to find out when they are holding development camp this year. I happened to be in Buffalo last year and attended the 3 on 3 tournament and had a blast. I'd like to be able to plan another trip around this year - especially with Jack Eichel being there.

I remember the guy who stood out to me the most, after Grigorenko, was Brendan Lemieux. He seemed to get in a fight with the coaches and kept working on his game when everyone else was celebrating the team that won. At the time, I felt like it showed "compete" and a will to win, but looking back, maybe he's just a jerk.

Believe it or not, Max Willman is also someone I remember.

  12. I saw there was a 2014 - 2015 thread, but it seems kind of late for that.

    Anyway, here you go:

Hampus Gustafsson Invited to Buffalo Sabres Development Camp

    h.gustafsson_00472-e1432304206131-620x39

Merrimack College center Hampus Gustafsson has been invited to the Buffalo Sabres prospect development camp this coming summer, according to a tweet by the Amarillo Bulls, where Gustafsson played junior hockey prior to joining the Merrimack roster.

Gustafsson, who participated in the Detroit Red Wings development camp in 2014, finished second on the Warriors in scoring this past season, posting 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in 38 games.

Gustafsson more than doubled his point production from his freshman season, when he tallied 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) in 33 games. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound center was also one of best faceoff players in the nation.

For the record, I found two other guys named "Hampus Gustafsson" in Elite Prospects, but this is the Merrimack College guy.

He has won awards just based on his skill on faceoffs.
