You don’t need to be smart you just need to be a little bit quicker of wit than the guy running from the same bruin

The team has gotten eaten by the bruin in so many humiliating ways, they might as well be called the "Buffalo Hot Wings".

I understand what you mean, but personally the greatest angst comes from the fact it’s *not/hasn’t* been all bad. Not all. Even after the Eichel disaster we only missed the playoffs by a single point. The Sabres always seem to find themselves on the extremes, a league outlier. Tank better, miss the playoffs more, can’t just stop at a great prospect pool: we need to continue adding to it so it’s the best prospect pool ever… I don’t even like Adams strategy and we’d still have been in the playoffs with better GT two season ago. One small budge on Adams “Levi timeline” and we’d be in, REGARDLESS of the other bad you correctly mentioned.

But he wouldn’t do it. It was the Levi timeline, after all. We adhere to the plan or we adhere to nothing at all

Does past performance indicate future results?

It does if you have the same guy at the helm.

No new owner, no new results, period. Unless somebody gets reaaaal smart.

I have an infinitude of doubt. So does everyone else who came through the system apparently.

Agree with a lot in here but not really the semantics on Eichel - if Adams desire to rebuild was the “final straw” that means it was salvageable before that: I believe the evidence bears this out as well

we shouldn’t forget that Jack initially rescinded the trade request when Adams briefly committed to winning: and did so WHILE PLAYING HURT

Dude was willing to put his body and career on the line during the shortened Covid year for the Buffalo Sabres. Shouldn’t be forgotten

and then we went on to put up the longest losing streak of all time.

Can't blame the guy for wanting to leave at any point in his tenure with the Sabres.

    Sabres are nothing but bad.

I don’t even think it’s some nefarious thing, liger is right they take on the mindset of the organization, but they more less imbibe it: the top-down refusal to measure results in the now becomes part of a fabric of their developing identity

Some recognize it and ask out

Don’t forget that Jack specifically said on record he asked to be dealt *because* Adams wanted to rebuild. We didn’t have to rebuild because Jack wanted out

Some don't and accept a pro career in perpetual loserness compensated by a fat paycheck paid for by the clueless fan (aka you and me).

Without Jack we weren't Jack *****. We still aren't Jack *****.

He went and got a cup and an "A" AND his checks got fatter.

    WE are the losers.

He reportedly asked for the trade prior to needing surgery.  It had to do with not wanting to go through another rebuild, not the injury.

    Hm, Jack had a soul...

If Jeff wants to play, he will play 60 minutes a night until he leaves, or cannot play anymore.

    This is the way.

This is not a new phenomenon.

The only solution is to boycott all Sabres tickets and merchandise. Make the franchise unprofitable so Terry & Kim Pegula pack their bags and head for the hills.

Also, lobby your government to stop any future handouts to the owners of the Bills/Sabres.

Eichel didn't have a NMC in effect yet.  He was traded in November, 2021, and his NMC kicked in at the start of the 22-23 season.

    He would have left willingly.

Big part of the reason season was so disappointing is again alluded to here by KO. 6545E15A-B417-4147-87CE-2F9066B0B233.thumb.png.71375e5d662a30517918460395338721.png

The bit specifically about how they “knew” in *OCTOBER* things weren’t right.

So if they knew so soon things weren’t right, and they knew the locker room was feeling entitled (KA’s press conference), how did it get to a situation it went south so fast? If it was imminently obvious that quickly, presumably it was discoverable or even obvious before the season started? Why did the GM allow the situation to exist, and the fester for so long?

At this point the discussion on the failure of this season is sort of getting redundant, what matters now is the coming season: it’s just disheartening we keep getting forced to come back to the analysis cause we keep getting more hard-line confirmation they really were lost right out of the gate

To quote former Sabres Captain Ryan O'Reilly:

"I lost my love of the game in Buffalo".

    Former Captain Jack Eichel:

"Vegas made so much sense to me. They want to win every year".

And recent former Captain Kyle Okposo:

"We knew we were screwed in the beginning".

The Buffalo Sabres are a team where top talent is drafted, then paid to leave.

This isn't a video game.  He has three options to move Skinner off the team:

    1. Trade him, but who will take him and will he waive his no trade clause?  The Sabres would need to retain a significant portion of his salary or accept cap dump of crappy players from another team which won't help the Sabres situation.
    2. Buy him out, which won't help the cap situation.
    3. Waive him a la Matt Moulson and let him play out his contract in the AHL, but again, that won't help the cap situation (as we saw with Matty Mo).

    4. Play him 60 mins a night until he waives his NMC or hits the LTIR. Then if he needs surgery, be like "nah".

    How's he a liability?

He's on the injured reserve all season and his contract is worth far too much.

He can be easily replaced by someone who works harder for less and who shows up to play (RJ, Bryson, Joker).

  10. 9 hours ago, LGR4GM said:

Yea, you're just wrong. You don't waive an easily tradable and valuable asset. It's just dumb to suggest we should.

Then trade him. However you need to make him leave the team, do it.

  11. Just now, LGR4GM said:

Oh God you're doubling down on waiving Samuelsson. This just is an unserious post. You don't waive top 4 defenders on good contracts, it's just dumb.

He's played 40 games a year since he started. How does that merit term and salary?

Plus, he doesn't seem to know what he's doing on the ice. Joker and Bryson are much better.

  12. 6 hours ago, thewookie1 said:

I doubt Skinner has any intention on leaving and Muel isn't just getting waived.

Joker will get 4 mil approximately regardless based on his previous contract.

Stephenson won't take 4mil year for sure

Tanev won't take 3 mil for sure

I do apologize for bursting your bubble.

There are teams he would play for. Or, buy out his contract. Mule waiver is a no brainer.

Joker gets to walk. Replace with Bryson @ 2M.

Bump Stephenson and Tanev a mil and drop Jost and Clutterbuck. Replace with Amerks.

The GMs job is to find solutions.

    24 minutes ago, LGR4GM said:

Jeff Skinner is something like 5th in the NHL since 2020 in 5v5 goals.

Also, saying we should waive Mattias Samuelsson basically makes you lose all credibility.

Jeff Skinner is a liability anywhere on the ice except directly in front of the net.

Explain why we can't waive Mule.

Have you guys lost your balls?

Skinner isn’t going anywhere. If he’s as bad as some make out who’s taking him?

Buyout for him is not viable this year.

Skinner will start the season as a top 6 forward.

Highest paid 3rd liner in history who can't produce.

    Say goodbye to the playoffs.

  14. 11 hours ago, thewookie1 said:

For a guy or two sure; he’s magically signed

5, Muel is missing and Skinner somehow ceased to be.

Jeff gone for future considerations. Mule on IR or waivers.

    11 players signed at $60M. $87M - $60M = $27M remaining.

UPL, Monahan, and Stephenson get $4M.

    Tanev and Joshua get $3M.

Joker, Samsonov, and Clutterbuck get $2M.

    Jost gets $1M.

    2 Amerks × $1M reserve.

    Total = $27M.

    ---

Samsonov, Joker, and Jost get a bridge. Everyone else gets a raise plus term. We have a team.

Stephenson would be an excellent pick up but I leave Cozens at C and have them compete for 2C.

Clutterbuck has some of what they need.

Sorry but Jost is 13F on a weak team.
Maroon has grit but is slower than Okposo.

OEL has none of the Panther grit and is a LHD.

Samsonov has the Leafs scent on him.

Joshua as a UFA would bump Greenway down to the 4th line. Benson, Cozens and Joshua. He can also play C to help Cozens on draws.

Tanev is a veteran RHD that is a UFA. He would provide the toughness in a pairing with Clark Kent.

Cozens doesn't think like a Centre imo. He likes corners, rushes, and playing the front of the net. Playing wing will allow him to focus on scoring.

Samsonov is a highly underrated playoff borne goalie. Leafs waived him, then started him in the playoffs.

Joshua and Tanev are solid. I'd take either over Maroon/OEL/Greenway.

Jost is an upgrade on Krebs / Girgs.

@Flashsabre asked the question in another thread:

Has Terry had enough and does he want to get serious about fixing this mess?

Which brought up something I'm really curious about:

Does Sabrespace think the existing core of the Sabres can still grow into the core of regular playoff team, as Kevyn Adams has clearly preached and managed toward up until this point?

Has the Adams rebuild had a setback, or has it failed completely?

    The second one.

Would the Leafs want someone with zero playoff games as a replacement?
