  1. "Hamel, a 29-year-old left wing battling for a roster spot with the Senators after leading the AHL in goals last season with 56, scored three straight times in a 3:22 span of the second period. He began the run with an even-strength goal, added a power-play score and finished the hat trick with a short-handed goal."

    Wow.

  2. I'm back in South Carolina. I'll be going with my uncle's family to their friend's house for a gathering to, among other things, watch the game. I'm wearing my Chris Drury t-shirt which I wore for games 1 and 3 and not for 2 and 4. Let's hope it brings luck again. I think Buffalo scores in the first 5 minutes of the game to set the tone. Let's go Buffalo! I'll idle in the chat, so if you see me, I'm not really there.

  3. Living in Maryland, local coverage showed more Canes than Sabres games. So I think I have a decent perspective on how they play. Make no mistake, they might start slow, but that doesn't mean they were playing bad. In their clinching game for example, they gave up the first goal (bad goal) to Jersey. They also had to withstand some penalties that favored New Jersey as Jersey played with desperation. The Hurricanes took that and then counterpunched. By the second period it was New Jersey back on their heals. This Carolina teams does appear to pick up steam as they play. Throw out the first two Canadien games and the debacle in the Meadowlands and they never let the other games get away from them. They were pretty consistent. They played their style rather than their opponents. I hope Buffalo continues their 1st period successes.

Throw out the games they lost, and they never let games get away? Who'd have thunk it.

  4. Yes, thanks for the home ice. Our teams match up great with each other although I do think our team is deeper as far as lines that can put pressure on the net and bang home some goals. This series will be one for the ages, no doubt about it.

There are several points that I believe are arguable in the Canes' favor. The stats here, however, favor Buffalo.

    Regular season:

    Players 15+ G

    Buffalo 10

    Carolina 8

    Players 3+ GWG

    Buffalo 10

    Carolina 8

    10th best goal scorer:

    Buffalo - 16G

    Carolina - 6G

    Playoffs:

    Players 3+ G

    Buffalo 9

    Carolina 6

    Players 1+ GWG

    Buffalo 7

    Carolina 6

    Players 1+ Pt

    Buffalo 20

    Carolina 14

  5. Close, it was 3-1 for Joisey. Otters won game 1 in OT.

By the way, until your team is eliminated, I am not comfortable with this series. While I do (obviously) expect the Sabres to end up on top being up 3-0, Havlat scares the heck out of me.

With Alfredsson replacing Havlat, both the top line and Havlat got a little less scary.

  6. Alternatively, you can download an IRC client such as mIRC and connect to the server.

If you download and install mIRC, you can connect to the server by typing:

    /server irc.webchat.org

Once you're connected, to join the chat, type:

    /join #gobuffalo

    And you should be set.

  7. On the sens Vaclav Varada, Chris Kelly, Martin Havlat, and Tyler Arnason were the only non 15 goal scorers. Havlat would have been atleast a 30 goal scorer, and Arnason only played a handful of games on a team that actually had skill. So as far as technicalities go - we only had two forwards to not reach the 15 goals plateau as well.

Arnason had 0 goals in 19 games with the Sens. That's with 42 SOG. And when mentioning technicalities, you don't include people that didn't make it, because technically they did not. Realistically, on the other hand, Havlat would definitely have made 30 goals. Arnason, however, did not make a single goal in the regular season for the Sens.

  8. From Yahoo's latest power rankings:

    9. Philadelphia Flyers (45-26-11; Previous: 9) – Best case: Coach Ken Hitchcock's decision to start Robert Esche in goal doesn't backfire, Peter Forsberg stays healthy and this team makes the run everyone expected in October. Worst Case: The goalie controversy won't go away, injuries bite again and Buffalo continues its regular-season dominance over the Flyers. Reality: The goalie situation is a mess, and Forsberg can't be counted on to stay in the lineup. Getting past Buffalo is a longshot.

Telling it like it is :D

  9. The question that really destroys the Buffalo conspiracy theory is this: if Bettman wants to do the Sabres in, why didn't he take advantage of the obvious opportunity to ensure they would NEVER win: fold the franchise a few years ago? Instead he worked diligently to ensure hockey would remain in Buffalo.

Well, OBVIOUSLY he got so much joy out of toying with Buffalo, he just couldn't bare the thought of losing that excitement. ;)
