  1. You don't know about the musical family members thread? I talk all about how Margery Deutsch is my cousin or something. Catch up, noob.

    waaaaaaagh i'm sorry

well... uh... I'm related to Jimmie Rodgers.. if anyone knows who that is on here.

Was actually just talking about getting a keyboard. I played piano for 16 + years and played in a concert band across europe on sax. Really miss music. But who wants to be that ass in the apartment playing music that the neighbors complain about?

  2. Having worked in "the biz", I've never heard anyone refer to a cheese pizza as a plain pizza. Am I the only one? Is this a regional thing?

I'm from Ohio. Plain = cheese pizza. In fact, I had never seen a sheet pizza until I came to Rochester. Nor did I understand you could put other stuff on a pizza (chicken, eggs, etc) until I came here. Unless you count Japan, but putting prawns on yer pizza isn't my idea of a good time.

bio, have Jo here design some flyers for Chinese restaurants and put them up by the food, litter box, nap spots. Rex will get the idea and shape up.

    awwwwww.

but seriously, i would do that to our douchebag cat if i thought it would work.

  3. My kid was approved and now we get to make our own medicine with this.

Also, my wife started writing music again.

(and no, one has nothing to do with the other.)

Your wife's a composer? Awesome! Sorry if that's common knowledge- mighta missed it in a thread somewhere. And huzzah on the medicine maker. Hope it's helps!

  4. My complaint is an ongoing one that has me nailbiting more than usual. I've done a lot of work for a big company (just finished week 9 of 10) and I'm supposed to be getting money. First check should've come about... 7 weeks ago at least. Second check is now a week + overdue. I keep getting the cold shoulder or the "wow, uh, it should be there, don't worry" routine from my contact. I guess the complaint is I'm really terrified the money won't come and I have to do something involving legal ###### or asserting myself as the bitchy artist wanting her money, a role I am NOT good at. So, sweatin' a little over here. It's some decent pennies they owe me, too. Would be a nice chunk to toss in the coffers with christmas coming up. Sigh.

  5. You guys are ruining the mental image I have of you playing hockey. I've been imagining really good hockey.

I'm in a beginner's league. There's 70 year old men with hip replacements and hockey moms who've never skated on the ice. I was thrown headfirst into intramurals last year without ever having put on gear and was having mental breakdowns about "letting the team down". I have yet to score a goal during a game. But I'm pretty good at forechecking and I've got a lot of assists.... So that means I'm awesome!

  6. You might be clenching your toes. I was doing it for a while and had to consciously tell myself to wiggle my toes every once in a while to relax my feet. After a while, I didn't have to tell myself anymore and they were just relaxed.

oh my god i never thought about this. I'm totally guilty. No wonder I hurt by the second shift.

  7. As to skate baking- I'd been figure skating (nothing serious) in my mom's 50+ year old skates for years, which were literally rotting on my feet. Blades were very flat and I couldn't get decent spins/jumps going. I bought a fine pair of figures, and had 'em baked- there was next to no break in time. It was amazing. I wear thin socks when I play, as well. Of course, not long after that, d4rk threw me on the ice to play hockey and I had to completely relearn to skate- got a pair of Bauer Vapors at Play It Again- they were well broken in already, and have served me well as a beginner. Bought all my gear there, too. (Helped I'm smaller and can wear most male youth stuff) If I ever were to buy new skates, I'd get them baked. Cuts a few weeks of transition off, and is worth the hassle.

    Have fun!

  8. My mum made it safely to Estonia some time today. I know literally nothing about the country, but she tells me everyone is very tall, blonde, and well dressed. And there's goulash. Can't wait to hear more- definitely wish I could be traveling with her. It's fantastic because she's always been the "post" as she put it- stayed at home and kept things in order while the rest of us in the family traveled all over. So now it's her chance, and I daresay she's caught the travel bug. Ireland, Netherlands, Denmark, Britain, Germany, Hungary, etc., all in the last couple years. It's great to see her out there enjoying herself before she gets too old to do so.

  9. Saw a friend who'd moved to NYC a few years ago tonight. Great to catch up.

Also got word that the horse rescue I volunteer at helped the county with seizure of 14 horses and additional farm animals in an animal abuse situation. I rounded up a couple friends to come help tomorrow as the rescue is now completely full. It might be sad seeing what state the animals are in tomorrow but the awesome part is knowing they're on the way to a better life and I get to be part of it. Nothing better than watching a sick animal gain weight and get a spring to its step. :)

  10. Red wings and sharks tonight. My west coast team is looking good, always good to have some respectable hockey.

That was a close game to watch. I fully expected the wings to get trounced since Kronwall and Ericsson are out. But Sharks are missing Boyle, too. Was hoping for an overtime decision rather than shootout, but was a good battle. Now.. LA and Calgary. heh

  11. Jim Leyland is stepping down as manager of the Detroit Tigers.

My favorite Leyland story is the one where he was a young kid back in ancient times and gave my grandfather sass. My grandad, then a high school math teacher (they taught on clay tablets in the days when jim was young and rode dinosaurs to school), grabbed him by the collar and shoved him against the lockers and lectured him on respect.

Huzzah for hometown heroes. Sad the Tigers didn't get to the World Series this year.

  12. Just watched the end of that Bruins & Red Wings game wow that was intense for a second I thought I was watching the playoffs again really haven't watched any games outside the Sabres it's pretty refreshing to watch good hockey

Yeah, the last minute or so when they pulled the goalie was good stuff. I thought for sure the B's would tie it up.

  13.

Actually, back then it was more likely acid. ;)

And, after your story, why do I picture d4rk in a white suit and shouting in a French accent 'boss, ze plaane, ze plaane.' ;)

(Yeah, it was before your time, but that dumb show was in reruns for what seemed like forever.)

Haha he's a little tall for that....

  14.

Reminds me of when I was in undergrad. We were walking back home at about 7am when this guy walking at a brisk pace with arms outstretched like a plane passes us and gets about 50 ft in front of us. At this point he tilts his wings and turns sharply across the street when he's even with a street sign. (Turned so sharp, he must have been a harrier.)

Well, he stops at the sign and appears to be talking to the sign for a minute or so. He puts his arms back down to his side and, though we don't know what the sign said to him, it apparently scared the bejebus out of him 'cause he took off like a bat out of hell towards the dorms.

We were always careful after that to never piss that sign off ourselves. ;)

    :w00t: Meth. Not even once.

Tbh I used to pretend I was an airplane when I was little- I'd wear black and tell people I was an F-117 (i was utterly obsessed) and zoom around pretending no one could see me. But I guess it's more endearing when it's a little girl rather than a grown ass man!

  15. My GPS misdirected me on the way to a doc appt this morning. While that part sucked, as I wheedled around through the slums lost as could be, hurling cathartic yet unheard expletives at my phone, I saw some real characters that unwittingly brightened my day.

To the lady by the bus stop dancing better than I could ever dance in the oversized white shirt with a giant tiger face and fringe with beads with what looked like adult diapers and majorette boots- get it girl.

The man with his arms spread wide running across the busy street like an airplane, I don't know where you're going dude, but I hope you land safely.

    TGIF.
