  1. Not meant as a dig on Hodgson, but you could put Matt Ellis out there between Vanek and Pommers and he would get points.

They are playing well, but Coho is a huge part of why - could Matt Ellis have passed like that to Vanek on the first goal? Watch the guy play, he opens up the ice for them by drawing players away. He might be third in points but that doesn't mean he is just riding shotgun in all this

  2. And Hodgson has a three game goal-less streak heading into Boston.... he really is becoming this years version of Luke Adam.

He doesn't have a point, but stats are deceiving - there are 3 or 4 Vanek/Pommer goals where Coho has made a nice hockey play away from the puck e.g. screening the goalie, drawing a player etc.

  3. I believe the exact maths used by a poster on the NHL website was:

    1 Zach Kassian = 3 Cody Hodgson

They also said Cody hasn't really scored a goal this season (one went in off his foot, the other his body), compared to the scoring machine of Zach. Oh they are fickle

  4. An oldie, but goodie thread.

Hodgson will be coming off his EL contract at the end this season.

Any ideas what his new contract will look like.

I'm thinking something like 3 years at $3 million per year, with some bonus # tied to performance.

Shorter season could help us with Coho's contract. But yeah, I think we will see a 3 year contract (which would keep him an RFA) for 2.5-3.5, depending on this season

  5. Ah man, Lori was fit, why did it have to be her? I hope that Darrel and Merle go at it. They have changed too much over the last 9 months, D is now good and M is still bad. The other storyline isnt too bad either.

I forgot all about the black dude, I presumed he would reappear by now if he was anything more than a one episode character, but maybe

  6. Funny thing, I never considered Shane a villain. IMO, he was caught between a rock and a hard place.

I saw someone who was ruthless and stripped of humanity and loyalty - so someone who had become very practical and lost ideology. I think he was a villain, but what made him good was that you could sort of understand why he made the choices he did. There was a perverse logic behind them

  7. So now because Gary Roberts disagrees, Hodgson being an issue for the Canucks GM isn't true? And even if it is true, whats the big deal? He had issues in Vancouver where they misdiagnosed his injury, and he was stuck behind a couple of superstars for playing time. I wouldn't be surprised if the Canucks GM had to spend alot of time dealing with him and what to do with him. Its also possible that he is now in a place where he will be happier and won't be an issue the GM has to spend alot of time on. I don't think Roberts was there in Vancouver at all to see what was going on and is only going off of his dealing with him in the offseason, away from the team. no one ever said he wasn't a hard worker, or that he wasn't trying, Gillis just said that he spent alot of time dealing with Cody the last few years. The fact that Cody doesn't want to talk about or look back on his time in Vancouver and dispute the comments from Gillis lead me to believe that theres probably alot of truth to Gillis comments, he wasn't happy there and may have had issues with the Canucks management and now he has moved on and is putting it behind him to start fresh.

But of course, on this board, everything seems to have to be Black or White, with either Cody being a malcontent who (with a demanding father) will constantly be agrevating and complaining to management, or he is a sweet and innocent kid who some evil GM is trying to defame to cover his own behind in a mistake of a deal

I think that saying you ahve had to spend time on a players issues implies that they are a problem player, which Roberts is saying is not the CoHo he knows, and whilst true he does only know him away from the team, he also knows him as a person - i doubt Miller is laid back and the life and soul of a party simple because it is the offseason, same is true with Coho and his attitude.

He has not replied to the comments because if he disagrees with Gillis, which his high road comment would suggest he does, then all that happens is that it descends into name calling and insults

  8. I just read the WGR article on the front page. It amazes me that given the first opportunity quite a number of Sabre 'fans' in and out of the media will ###### all over the team. I hate football and the British culture behind it but at least they know how to support their teams. :(.

I have to agree with this, it seems Buffalo fans are a very pessimistic munch. I am happy with the way this team is generally going, disappointed with where they are atm and excited for the draft/FA and most importantly next season.

As for Coho, i don't think there is anything wrong with asking for more ice time if you have earnt it. I can understand why is was apprehensive about his playing time. I would rather go to a middle of the road franchise and play a big role in its quest for the cup than play 6 minutes on the top team. Four years is a long time to not get a shot at a top 6 pairing. I also wonder about requesting trades, is it a bit like college confirmations that you can heavily hint that you want one, but coming out and requesting one is pretty much definitive?

Anyway, i hope Coho is here for a long time and the reaction the van fans have to him should be taken seriously, just as we rag on Roy for being lazy and presuming he does nothing but party and drink etc. i am sure they do the same about their players - the only difference is that in this case, they like him :P

  9. Our team under performed. Literally everyone did (bar Pominville and Ennis and Foligno, if he counts). I hope Regier knows what to do, as i am not too sure what went wrong, maybe it was the new player lack of chemistry combined with a load of injuries to different players, so the lines had to keep being muddled. I don't really know.

As for Roy's contract, it really isn't that bad. He has proven he is can get to 80 points, this season he was bad, but maybe he was out of shape from missing 6 months last year? It is harder to attain fitness than it is to lose or maintain it. I think for those people who say i'd trade him for a hobo's left shoe, then they are poor businessmen. It is quite simple, if you have an asset, you use the asset. You do not throw it away. Most people sell their old cars when they get a new one, the old one is probably a bit ######, but you still don't just burn it do you?

  10. How about a couple of goals? lol

Oh but wait, there's more! :(

Sulzer has a goal & 2 assists in Buffalo, while MAG has got...... squat.

I still think the trade is a question mark (depends on how these 2 rookies develop) but right now it looks like the Sabres got the better deal, at least as scoring is concerned.

The real problem in Vancouver was that CoHo couldn't expect to get more than 3rd line minutes for a few more years, and playing behind 2 top centers (Art Ross & Selke winning) he shouldn't really expect more. Turns out his father & agent were pestering the Canucks management about this, they were just surprised that the 'Nucks pulled the trigger this year.

So if CoHo develops some chemistry with Stafford & Ennis (Leino?) you might have a solid second line.

By the way, if Roy is #1 center, and CoHo is 2nd or 3rd, who is the other center?

Is McCormick a 3rd or 4th line center?

Ennis will be one of the centres, Roy another and Coho - with McCormick as the 4th line centre (or maybe Boyes)

As for next season, who knows!

I like the lines atm, as they have a centre, a scorer and a grinder - classic set-up
