  1. I know I'm in the minority here but I think it's too soon to give up on Myers.

I agree. Unless the Sabres know something significant that the public doesn't. I think it way too early

I love the Columbus GM's voice. It is like silky gravel

  2. So Dreger is reporting that Columbus is offering Bobrovsky to other teams at the draft and is looking to acquire a goalie. That's ridiculous. Are they THAT afraid of Steve Mason's one-year wonder deal happening again?

Is this rhetorical? Seems the answer is an obvious yes.

One decent year for $6 million a year is a lot.

  3. True, but if it was "Forsberg and ___________" I'd be pretty interested. I have basically zero interest in watching Stafford play hockey for us anymore and Miller doesn't fit into our long term plans. A blue chip prospect like Forsberg would be huge for us in this rebuild. I wouldn't need a ton more after that.

Foresberg, Holtby, 2013 1st and Wilson for Stafford and Miller and 2013 3rd

I think this is a fair deal and one that I would pull the trigger on

  4. He was asked whether he tried to move Stafford and Miller. His response was, in substance, that he wouldn't talk about them because they still were on the roster.

His tone was even more telling.

None of us know what DC offered.

We can guess Foresberg was a piece - if they got Stafford, i doubt they get Erat

  5. They were discussing this on WGR - maybe Regier puts the price too high? Therefore the number of deals is fewer.

This is a team that needs to be scrapped and rebuilt, and that's not going to happen waiting around to scrape up every possible nickel of value in a trade.

It's like the guy hangs his hat, and his record as GM, on one or two BIG trades...so everyone can oooohh and ahhh, and tell him how awesome he is. In the meantime he has a bottom-shelf team that's one of the worst in the league, a team he built, and a lot of moves need to be made but don't get made,

Maybe another, better GM would have made several trades? Maybe not for top-dollar, but would be more beneficial to the team and the product on the ice?

I would say cutting Staphford was a higher priority than PomPomstein - both should go, but Stafford is clearly worse than Pominville. And from his presser today, even Regier hinted that there were other players he wanted to trade first, but didn't get what he wanted to do.

Again, penny wise and pound foolish is our 17 year Cicada Regier.

The cap is not an issue. The payroll is not an issue. So if there is no market for Stafford then he is better on this team. Stafford scoring 30 points at $4million is better than a second round pick (as long as cap or payroll isnt an issue).

I expect BIG moves at the draft. Today is a day where you sell off pending UFAs, the draft is where hockey trades happen - and once the draft order is set picks become a more tradeable commodity

Either way, good bye big 3, hello rebuild

  6. Checking the box score at ESPN just now - Staphford was one of the few players to come away with a ZERO on plus/minus. 13 Sabres were +1 or better. Hard to believe a "star player" and "Assistant Captain" could accomplish nothing offensively in that game last night. He didn't even make a point last night, in a 4 goal game.

He had 5 SOGs. Every one of his shots that I saw seemed dead-center on the goalie's chest - don't think that will work, ay, Drew?

Maybe Drew just read, and misunderstood, a quantum mechanics textbook and thinks if he fires it at the goalies chest enough times it might go through the goalies chest eventually

  7. In a season of so many disappointing performances, Mike Weber has been an exception.

Don't recall much chatter on the board about it, but he is playing liking a legitimate top four this year and he and Ehrhoff look like a pretty good combo.

Yes he has played really well. I'm hoping he signs a 3/4 year extension at this point, and that means Ott signs a 2/3 year extension next year. These guys are good ones to have on your team. I'm intrigued what has made him play so well this year, i hope it is more than just a contract

  8. Right, these team has numerous problems so let's try to fix it with other teams' problems. Jokinen was in such high demand that nobody picked him up. Even the Panthers who are down 8 guys.

Who are these free agents that Darcy is letting walk?

    Black Sunday #neverforget

  9. Just checking stats at ESPN - Tyler Myers is -6 with only 5 points for the season. Leopold is -7 with 7 points. That's with a very good/elite goalie minding the net. Shouldn't these guys be on the bus out of town seated next to Stafford at the end of the season too?

Leo will be gone. Myers was very much out of shape at the beginning of the season/is having a down year. Personally I wouldn't give up on a just 23yo D-man because of a bad shortened season. Stafford i'm slightly weary of - he is just so streaky

  10. Hopefully he can catch up to the blistering offensive pace of his BFF, Derek Roy.... who's now up to a whopping 3 goals after 17 games. Roy is playing at a Leino-like pace and could finish the season with 6 or 7 goals.... they probably have to quench the ice with water after he scorches by.

I wouldnt mind 3 goals if it came with 12 assists
