Yes he has played really well. I'm hoping he signs a 3/4 year extension at this point, and that means Ott signs a 2/3 year extension next year. These guys are good ones to have on your team. I'm intrigued what has made him play so well this year, i hope it is more than just a contract

Ray Shero is a good GM, but don't underestimate the power of having the two best players on your roster, not to mention the fact this also helps them get trades (i.e. Crosby is probably a huge reason Iggy chose them)

It is not what they would be traded for, it is what they're worth is. Picks act as a currency to assign to each player, which makes them more comparable

Iginla could keep signing one year contracts with Calgary, then get traded at the deadline to a contendor. This hugely helps calgary and also mean Iginla will go to a top 4 team each year, rather than trying to pick a team and hope. Plus if by some miracle Calgary goes on a run in the next 2-3 years he would be a part of it Plus it means his family wouldn't have to move
