Yes because he is the only problem right now 🤦‍♂️

He is far from the only or biggest problem. But your energy line has an extremely capped ceiling when they are completely incapable of doing a single thing with the puck. Throwing that out after goals this year has been a joke. It is a guarantee that we won't answer quickly or take momentum back

I know when it's a goalie fault. None of these 4 goals are egregiously on UPL. What people want is for our goalies to cover up for the sh**ty play on front of them, like UPL did in Philly.  But that isn't a plan. You can't play like crap and expect the goalie to save your ass every night.

This thread has been people having a reasonable discussion about the many bad things tonight and then you throwing a fit because someone said the G word. That's always what happens lmao

What kills me is it's always the goalie we complain about first. We don't care about turnovers. We don't care about giving up breakaways, we don't care about getting shoved off the puck in our end, we don't care about standing around watching the game. All we see is the puck in the net and think "GOALIE!!!"

Listen to the intermission hosts. They are hammering the Sabres skaters, not UPL.

We do, and we talk about all of those things, but

1.) You're a goalie and that bias is obvious to everyone

2.) Our goaltending has been bottom 5 when adjusting for the things you complain about for a decade +

3.) You are guilty of what you say we are - you NEVER even suggest that goaltending could be a problem

One thing I really wanna see this season is a permanent end to their habit of, whenever there is a home game with a chance to build some excitement around the team and increase the chances of creating a home-ice advantage with a raucous crowd, coming out in a coma and pooping the bed for most of the game.

It hasn't happened yet.  If they want to be a real team, it needs to start yesterday.

  5. Lotta chatter about what to do when you're at the 1 yard line. I downloaded and parsed some data since 2020:

If the Bills want to run, it hasn't really mattered what formation they use, they have been successful on 50% of those play. If they want to pass, they need to pass more frequently from under center and less frequently out of shotgun (in particular, Dorsey passes way less from under center at the 1 yard line than Daboll)

The data doesn't distinguish between QB runs and RB runs but league-wide historic data says that under center QB sneak > shotgun QB sneak > shotgun handoff > under center handoff, I imagine it's somewhat similar for Buffalo. The Bills have gone to shotgun at the 1 yard line 37% of the time, league average is 33%.

  6. I don't think it's even a question which goalie you start. The minute you sit the hot guy for the first game because it's "easier" or for any other reason, you're asking to lose both games. There are 2 points up to be claimed tonight and we need to do everything we can with the resources we have to get those two points. Tonight, that means starting UPL. We need to wipe the slate clean tomorrow and ask the same question, at which point the answer is "start Levi since UPL just played last night."

The only exception is an extreme - your starter is Ryan Miller, your backup is Patrick Lalime, you play the 29th place Panthers at home on Friday and the President's Trophy Winning Detroit Red Wings on the road on Saturday. When you have 3 goalies who are near the same level and one is playing well at the moment, you prioritize that one until you can't.
