That is not good framing of the argument - the proper claim would be that there is no correlation between a team's faceoff record and its standings position over an entire season of hockey, not that it wouldn't be really handy to win particular faceoffs inside a game, just like it'd be handy to win lots of other one on one battles for the puck

Losing sucks but if they bring this game to Ottawa and Chicago they're beating both of them

Yeah I'm not sure what people are complaining about there. He got beat by his guy, then forced him to lose the puck before he could take a shot on goal, and stayed glued to him. Someone else got to tee up a one timer from pretty far out, and it went in NHL OT is usually far uglier than that to be honest

I didn't think the refs were as bad as everyone else did tonight, though I do wonder exactly what Risto did to go to the box. Svechnikov seemed to do two illegal things and I didn't see any from Rasmus

FWIW, Rodrigues recovered, and his guy both lost the puck due to Evan's poke check and was unable to register a shot on goal. Someone else's man scored the goal And Ralph put him out there because he was one of the better Sabres tonight, and the only Sabre to win a faceoff in overtime it looked like

@SwampD I think you're right about Eichel holding onto the puck too long plenty of times, but sometimes, like that shift, I'm looking everywhere else, and Risto there was the FIRST Sabre to finally get their stick in a position to catch a pass, and it took about 30 seconds of Jack skating back and forth looking and looking I think a lot of times our off-puck skaters have absolutely no idea where to go An extreme contrast would be watching Auston Matthews when he doesn't have the puck

My thing that I'm saying a lot this year is that all these guys think they're Stamkos and can pick corners all day. Watch Tampa's other stars. Good goal scorers are good precisely because they don't always try to roof the puck, there are other much better areas to shoot that don't clear the zone if you miss by an inch

Risto is worse at hockey than Swamp lets on, but on the other end he's become such a meme for the entire rest of the fanbase that overall he's underrated
