Wow. He was SO great. What a coach. Not just for the Sabres. Those years with the vaunted Habs teams as well.

    Happy Birthday indeed.

His downfall in Buffalo was not coaching - it was his GMing.  He was one of the greatest coaches ever, but a terrible GM.  I don't think Scotty was 'GM' anywhere else.  Coach or Senior Advisor.

  2. Sid the Grandpa signed for 2 years at his career long AAV ($8.7M).  Two years after this season.

Brings him to age 40 and a retirement as a player and a move to AGM or some such.

I posted someplace that there is no way Sid is not retiring a Penguin.

While it is true that the team extended a QO to preserve the team’s rights to the player, it doesn’t mean they can’t hammer out a longer term deal.

They gave Malenstyn a QO, but eventually signed him to a two year deal.

I would be stunned if Krebs was arrogant enough to not sign his QO.

Me too, but my point is that I don't think he has a choice.  He is mandated to sign it by the CBA, as far as I know - @Taro T has not responded to my page yet.

The Sabres gave him a qualifying offer, so the fact that Krebs hasn’t signed it indicates he isn’t happy with either the one year term or the minuscule raise it offers.

I imagine he will eventually sign it and be on the ice for day one of camp.

Does he have the option not to sign it?  QOs are set at 1 year with a set 10% rise - I believe that is set in the CBA (paging @Taro T to whatever thread this is).  Contracts could be negotiated, but I think that a QO is kind of set if a deal is not negotiated prior to (insert some date here).

For starters: Talking with people who have in fact worked for PSE and testified to what an absolute shitshow the entire organization is.

Okay.  Do these people have insider knowledge enough to opine on what NHL Executives think about the Sabres and them not wanting to join the team ??

Sure they could talk about day to day work situations and it may be reasonable to take that one or two steps further, but I'm not sure about people not wanting to come here.  Many GMs (too many) and head coaches (too many) have come and gone, so they were all willing to come here.

I honestly think some people are incapable of grasping just how toxic Pegula is within NHL circles. Virtually no respectable or credible person in the industry wants anything to do with the guy because they know it's a career death sentence. And forget hockey: go talk to anyone who worked for PSE and ask them what they think.

With respect, what is this based on ??

    Tough call.

I see Adams at school events, as his son goes to school with mine, and to be honest, he doesn't seem worried.

Strikes me as odd that they would hire his personal choice as Coach, then dismiss him after one season together, but I get the frustration, as I have been at a lot of games over the past 15 years.

FWIW, my son says Adam's son is a great guy, and an outstanding AAA hockey player.

    Welcome !!

    Sent you a beer thingie.

    Nice post.

You guys may get a different impression if you listen because it wasn’t directly specified.

But my very clear impression is that members of the Adams executive are talking off-the-record that they know their jobs are on the line.

It’s not so much an ultimatum as the simple truth everyone around here would agree with: they’ve had enough time to turn this thing around and it needs to happen now or they deserve to be fired.

Basically, they aren’t idiots and they understand that’s the reality of pro sports.

That may be, but I think everyone (KA ...) will get the 2 Ruff seasons.  I expect a spirited effort to start the season, but it will take until Christmas for everyone to become familiar with their new roles.  Also 1/3 (roughly) of the game day roster has turned over - it will take time for everyone to get used to the new Ruff 'system'.  I remember the debates years ago about the 'Ruff system' and it seemed that we could not come up with what was the 'Ruff system'.

Kadri and Weegar are interesting candidates; Andersson would likely be a bit rich for my taste based on the present roster makeup

I would trade a lot for Weegar, in a heartbeat.  He is the type of anchor the Sabre D needs.

And I would finally have my Moosehead on the roster.

I have a team in mind for him.

Red Wings, eh.  I like it.

In the wee hours of the morning we said goodbye to Winston, our dog of 14 years.  He was truly the best dog.  He'd been losing mobility for most of the year and as of yesterday morning could not get up without help.  He also barely touched his breakfast.  By dinnertime he could no longer stand at all, even with help, and refused food and water.  I've seen that before; it's a clear sign they're ready to cross over.  My son slept on the floor with him; he said Winston got restless at about midnight he sat up and put Winston's head in his lap which calmed him down.  Shortly after that my son noticed Winston had stopped breathing.

The last picture I have of Winston before he passed:

And to brighten up an otherwise dire post, here he is in better days doing zoomies on the sofa.

I'll miss you Winston.  You were the best dog ever.

    So sorry for your loss.

It’s never easy, but it’s better when they pass at home.

  11. The Sabres will amass 97 points in the 2024/25 NHL season.

Good enough for 7th in the East.

They will eliminate the 2 seed team from The Great Satan in round 1, as 1st round elimination is the long standing tradition of the team from that terrible place.

We will have a parade to honour the latest cusp (hay, oh @PASabreFan) and add yet another lame banner.

The Sabres will win the second round match against the dastardly Bruins, but will fall in the Conference Final to the eventual cup winner from Florida.

  12. Option 1.

I think the Sabres will be fine.  This is 100% a Lindy Ruff team now.

I think KA has done well.

He has really upgraded the bottom 6 and it really did not cost anything.

He made a hockey trade - a top 6 forward for a top 4 dman.

He upgraded the goaler backup situation - Levi can play mostly in Rochester and there is not likely to be a disaster in Buffalo when 6K has to rest.

    The D is better.

The 'core' isa nother year older and slowly turning into vets - I see that Dylan is skating with some highly regarded vets from around the league and not in Whitehorse - not that ther is anything wrong with Whitehorse.

I still think that buying out Skinner was a mistake - they have not replaced his 30+ goals (at least not yet, but who is out there?).
