  1. Not really. They'll lose 5 or 6 more.

Don't get me to chuckling now Ink. :D

How can two teams continually drive me f'ing crazy and i keep coming back for more?

Tortured sports soul syndrome.......a.k.a............Buffalo sports fan

  2. Well, let's keep the Islanders early season success in context of their scheduled opponents in that time. It's going to get tougher for them, the easy part of their schedule is about to end. Then they'll be facing a slew of top team opponents all the way until xmas.

Let's see how they roll through this part of their schedule, I think many will find they won't hold up.

  3. Zads and Risto looked good together.

The situation with the offensive will be addressed over the next 2 seasons.

Prepare to have Myers resigned before the end of his current contract.

There is much to be said about the developing Defense. This loss means nothing, the development and further education of the D means everything.

    That is all.

Hah. I saw none of the game tonight as I was busy watching the Amerks lose to the Comets (best team in the AHL). The Amerks looked like sorry turds against the Comets. Sigh.

That said, why does anyone even bother to complain about the Sabres? Losing to Pittsburgh is a foregone conclusion. The Penguins are at an entirely different level in the NHL than the Sabres.

This is the Sabres. This is who they will be for this season. If you can't handle it, then you would do your health a benefit by tuning out. I'm not saying that to be flippant, but seriously, think about the absurdity of getting upset over this.

This team sucks. I don't think Nolan is the answer by any means. This is the pain that was arranged. It will be played out.

That said, to put any of this on Murray is absurd. OF course, watching the Amerks tonight I saw a few things. Passes into skates, players slow in reading the plays, players taking bad angles, one too many passes, etc. I did actually have a thought that perhaps Cassidy needs to go because there are some problems in Rochester that seem to also appear in Buffalo.

Oh well. At least I got to watch my son play tonight and then we got to watch a hockey game.

Much like a young team, the Amerks are still finding themselves.

"This is not going to be a five-year rebuild. ... When you tear it down, it doesn't happen overnight, but I don't buy into five-year rebuilds."

"We want to be competitive. If anybody thinks that there's a message of tanking being sent from upstairs, I would suggest they put a camera on me for 60 minutes of the game when we're losing and you'll know that tanking is not what I want," Murray said. "I want to play properly. I want to be competitive."

"The coaches on the bench don't want to lose," Murray said. "I can't imagine there's one player in there that wants to finish last so we can get Connor McDavid so he can lose his job to him. Where in our organization would the tanking come from if the GM doesn't want to lose and the coaches don't want to lose and the players don't want to lose?"

    (Buffalo News on 4/16)

This means nothing. Obviously the Sabres are built to grow. Not lose. They brought in supposed scoring in Moulson, they brought in supposed leadership in Gionta, they reinforced the defense with Gorges. These aren't moves of a team that wants to be dead last. But none the less here we are, and in that context I say let's tank full force.

  4. The shots against were just a reflection of puck possession. It's to be expected from a team like Edmonton, which are further along on the front end rebuild than us. Nuevy's performance these last few games though, wow, he's been worked and he's held up fairly well under the circumstances. Good for him.

Not that I enjoy watching the Sabres go through this season, because I don't, but, at the same time, there is a part of me that is relieved we lost this one, if only to further efforts on the draft position. It's a necessary evil, although it's a tough pill to swallow, we must endure to achieve greatness.

The defense is looking better with Risto, Zads and Myers in particular. I like the time all 3 are getting, Myers as the future torch bearer for this group with Risto and Zads getting the experience at the NHL level. It does my heart good to see them getting on with it.

  5. If you enjoy a winter atmosphere and are from a larger city, I'd recommend Ellicotville and the surrounding ski area just south of the city of Buffalo.

Niagara Falls has some nice evening light displays on the Falls in the winter, but you'd have to go to the Canadian side to truly enjoy them in full force.

While not exactly the best time to come to enjoy all Western New York has to offer, there are sleigh rides in certain areas both in the foothills in the southerntier as well as the farm land by both Lakes Erie and Ontario. Depending on snow of course. The real problem is it's the middle of Jan. Normally the coldest part of winter here in WNY with the snow belt either feeling it full force or already pasted with snow from the start of the lake effect snows. So it's definitely a winter situation, no colors on the trees from the season change and no early summer green with decent temps, before the humidity drops in.

As for just hanging around the city, well, obviously the Harbor Center, you have to go to Duff's for chicken wings. It's a must.

There is sledding to be done all around the area as well. I would highly recommend Letchworth State Park as well. While not nearly as pretty as the fall foliage change over, the winter in the park, especially the Water Falls, offer a unique winter appearance with the ice and snow forming around the falls in a beautiful pattern.

If you are coming, these are only some of the things you could do, and, depending on how long you are coming for, to take this trip from Germany, and come here for Hockey, you obviously are going to see a Sabres game, although, it is in the rebuild process so expectations from the team should be tampered, but, I highly recommend a drive over to Rochester to catch the Rochester Americans in a game, where the Sabres young talent is busy developing and honing their skills while building chemistry for the rebuild. It's only about a 1.5 hour drive over to Rochester from Buffalo, so it's not bad.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Nice stop on Dats by Zads, not allowing him to go around him and taking the puck away. Also some nice hits. Still hangs on to the puck to long, but I did notice he corrected that mid way through the 2nd period. A couple of small mistakes, but all in all, for the ice time he was given, I liked what I saw. Keep playing the kid please Ted.

  7. I don't believe Kaleta will be anything special coming back. He's a local product, and we should support him based upon that. He's living his dream, there is no harm in each of us living it through him by supporting him for this season.

Will he turn us around? No

Is it something that we, as fans, will be interested in, meaning his come back story line?, Yes

Let's just have fun this season with what little we can. It couldn't do any harm, and I don't see Patrick Kaleta as a long term member of this team unless his transformation is complete to the new NHL philosophy on his style of play.

  8. Please, someone tell me this line can become a thing.

I've only physically seen them this past game, but honestly 11, they did look like they were comfortable with each other. The only knock I have that line is that they did squander 3 or 4 decent opportunities by not hanging on to the puck. There was one time in the 2nd period where Armia had it along the boards and it looked like he gave up on the battle to back away, Carrier got there to help him late and the puck was already going back the other way, if Armia continues that battle, maybe Carrier gets that puck and Grigs is by the net almost unhindered waiting for it. I saw similar events in the neutral zone with that line, not really a concern as they are still jelling together, but I'm hoping they get better at supporting one another once in the offensive zone.

  9. Armia and Grigs seem to have developed some chemistry as the castoffs. Lets hope it continues

Went last nite. They looked more than just chemistry. There was some very good passing and play setups between not only Grigs and Armia, but the work by Carrier to allow these 2 to free wheel caught my eye in each of the 3 periods. I like this kid Carrier, fast and not one bit afraid to get in to the dirty areas along the boards and behind the net. He was solid as a winger for Grigs and Armia.

  10. Sure but , strachan, meszaros and benoit are all sucking so hard.

I wonder if Zad's has a coach in the press box with him, everytime one of those 3 touches the puck the coach is telling Zads..."and that is what you don't do"..........like live, in person spectator training as opposed to video..........
