I'm on vacation.. now and all of next week. I will not be reading Sabres news. I will not be working. I will be letting F all happen in the world and it will be glorious.
I won't be at the beach. I won't be where it's too hot, too humid, etc.
It will be glorious.
Best of times to all!

Thankfully every day is complaint day when it comes to the Sabres.
In comparison, for me, everything is great! So I'll wait until tomorrow to post more. 🙂

If I remember correctly, there is a small limit to the number of times you can walk away from an Arbitration result.
Noted.
22 hours ago, Trettioåtta said:If the arbitration is below a certain value (about $4.8 million) the team can't walk away. So if he's given $1.5 million, you're stuck paying that for an 8th defender.
If this guy was basically a thrown in for the Norris trade, it makes sense they never saw him as more than that.
He also signed for basically league minimum - he clearly isn't well regarded.
Also saw this posted elsewhere.. it does make sense then. So I retract my criticism... a bit. It's still all crap.

Please don’t intend this to sound like I’m defending KA as a competent GM, but this one move he got right.
MOFO got 875k and that is probably what the Sabres also thought he was worth. However, had the Sabres extended a qualifying offer, JBD would have responded by electing to go through salary arbitration as is right under the CBA. And he would have gotten awarded a higher salary (GMKA’s mention of comps) that the Sabres would have to accept. And you’re not going to pay that for your 7D/8D.
Where you’re right to criticize him is that GMKA has no plan. Why spend a 2nd for the services of JBD and then go trade happy at the position a couple months later? It was a waste of draft capital.
This is not accurate and what I alluded to when I posted. They can choose not to accept and the player becomes a free agent. So instead of seeing what happened they just simply said "Out out damned spot" and went about signing a gaggle of low level defenders to two way deals.
One might argue they did "right by the player" to release him now so he had a better chance of signing somewhere.

Well the Sabres start to gut the roster of all talent it will be like what happened before. Until then, trading an unprotected 2026 first for a team that has been a lottery team for the past 14 years, is foolish.
You've identified the one criteria Buffalo clings to when making decisions.
23 minutes ago, #freejame said:If they’re living in dream world, they better be planning on getting McKenna and McDavid. It wouldn’t surprise me if GMKA couldn’t think that up even in his wildest fantasies though.
Adams couldn't, but Admiral Pegula can. He's a visionary.
And now I feel like I had Taco Bell.

My calculation is simple: if you don’t get a fair value return for him I. e. second line forward, then your team is not better if he is dealt. He’s more of an offensive defense than defensive stalwart. I recognize what his assets and liabilities are as a defender. But not getting a reasonable deal for him doesn’t help this team, it sets it back.
I wasn't talking about your calculation. I bolded "Byram" and "Byrum" used in your post within the first few sentences. 🙂

Wasn't the Jarmo advisor role supposed to sorta help us for weeks like this? I feel like I've almost forgotten that he is part of the organ-eye-zation because the moves made seem like typical KA moves of years past.
Maybe KA is so bad that no advisor in hockey can bring enough clout to help.
Jarmo's advice was don't do what Admiral Pegula tells you. Adams couldn't comprehend that statement. It short circuited his brain. His thought process was broken on Pegula is right, defend, Pegula, right, defend.
And that's how we ended up with all the RHD and no sign of Jarmo.

Well, this time will be different. They won't have upper management crowing about losing on purpose. 😉
Back then they had to try to lose.. now it's just natural.

Kevyn Adams "we like where our roster is at today"
Tuch will be the gauge of that statement. I don't expect him to re-sign given what's been done so far.

I wouldn't trade the Sabres 2026 first for anything short of McDavid at this point.
It's probably the unspoken strategy of the team. Let's get McKenna. It worked well when they tried it with McDavid.

Without Byram you are losing a good defender from an offensive standpoint. The Sabres are not a complete team with Byrum or without. The issue then becomes what positions need shoring up more than others. Is it better to subtract a good defenseman for a top six winger? I would say yes. What I don't want to see happen is that Byram gets traded for a less than credible top two-line player.
As far as who would be our sixth defenseman, it could be another functional player from the market or maybe bringing Docker back or moving up Johnson from the AHL. It's a juggling act within your roster limitations.
I've nothing else to say... but curious about the bolded. How does this even happen? 🙂

Adams claims the arbitration award for JBD would have been too much for the 8th defender... the MOFO signed for 875 in Detroit.
I only quoted this post. Just a stupid statement by Adams all around. How about you let the arbitration award be handed out and then you let him walk? Everything about the JBD situation is the perfect example of how broken this team is and how they clearly don't think ahead.
No plan for Byram.
They got JBD as part of the Cozens deal (filled a hole at the time) but clearly had no idea what they were going to do. Now they see younger guys (don't block the youth!) and cheaper guys (by $100k? That's fine tuning EEE). They let the guy walk before they had to do anything.
Whatever.. this is the most I've spent talking about this team in the past few months and likely the most I'll spend talking about it for the next year...

Except the top of the organization hasn't held a press conference in years. Adams talks to the top everyday and "has all the resources he needs" to run the ship as he sees fit, and makes sure that every trade is approved. Adams is, for all intents & purposes, the head of the organization and the face of the franchise.
I don't, not even for the briefest of moments, think Adams is the head of the organization. Adams is a sycophant who opted to buy-in to the Pegula business model. He accepted being the one having to talk to the media and defend the actions of his boss.
Adams can spin any diatribe he would like but after continued failing of the front office across multiple people it's clear that the way he sees fit to run the ship is in accordance to what Admiral Pegula dictates and that he definitely has all the resources to make sure it happens.
Adams is not innocent nor would I even try to defend him. But Pegula is who has made this franchise the joke of the sports world and those who sign on to be part of it are just willing accomplices.

That's just typical Trump saying it's bad unless he is the one to do it.
So.. like every politician ever?
Then again, Trump is already elected whereas he was inferring that Obama would do it for re-election. Granted, Trump might be doing it for his hope of everlasting re-election...

IDK - I think Adams is responsible for creating the culture driving free agents to say "anyone else". It's not like he's just been in the job for just a year....he's had enough (if not too much) time to create an atmosphere to attract top free agents. He has failed and I can't cut him any slack for being new in the job or other legit excuse. He's had 5 years and is sleeping in the crap bed that he's responsible for making.
I did say there was plenty he's guilty of.... Terry Pegula creates an atmosphere that makes UFAs not want to sign here. 🙂
1 minute ago, In The Buff said:everything you've said was said about the BILLS during their epic drought. And the new GM & coach turned everything around by having a plan on how to do it & executing on it. The BILLS success didn't come over night. But thru smart drafting & adding certain role players, they were able to turn the team into a perennial contender & destination.
The same thing could happen to the Sabres, there's nothing preventing that from happening other than the guy whose been running the show hasn't been able to execute a successful plan to win games. His name is Kevyn Adams. He seems to feel that he needs palm trees to turn this thing around. The BILLS didn't need any excuses.
And Josh Allen. You are forgetting the most important part.
The Sabres have? Well who knows, they keep shipping out players who become top talents in the league.

I gotta wonder what Alex Tuch is thinking so far. I can’t believe he is impressed enough to want to consider any long term extension, but rather hoping GMKA sending him elsewhere before next season.
This is the barometer. We should all get a good sense of where things stand. If Tuch chooses to re-sign here and it's not a significant over payment then perhaps there's something about the team we are missing. However, if he bolts then it's Armageddon because I'm not sure how they spin "local boy spurns homeclub hockey team for 'anyone else'"

Right, we can't blame Kevyn Adams for the situation he created by being terrible at his job.
Well, he owns less than 50% of the drought total... the joke that is the top of the organization is the real culprit.

Is Adams purposely trolling us? Wtf.
Yeah, this forum and Sabres fans everywhere are secretly part of a multi-year psychological study performed by the University of Phoenix. Years from now we'll all feel better about how we demonstrated a professional hockey team can impact the mental health of a wide number of people over a prolonged period of time.

This will take some time to digest.
But I did receive a wonderfully long and positively reinforced message from the SSA this morning telling me how great the bill will be for those collecting social security. So it must be a great bill. I mean, it's in the name and the SSA is telling me it is. 🙂
It likely sucks, like most legislation. Like the "Affordable" care act..
