Erhoff is a FA again to :D
.
I was chuckling over that the other day. The thing is, he really is the best fit on the ice of anyone available.
-
Look, despite real advances in making the Sabres a nicer workplace, everybody has to admit Terry has floundered as an owner so far.
He tried to buy a winner with a couple ill-conceived free agent contracts, kept Darcy beyond his due date and failed miserably in picking Pat Lafontaine to lead/be a figurehead for the hockey department. He also decided to flush two full seasons down the drain in the hopes of nailing some elite talent in the draft.
I'm willing to forgive his early mistakes if this descent into hell pays off, because the sad reality of this plan is I have no other choice. I'm happy he OKed Tim Murray to guide the process and hope he learned his lesson from the Leino disaster and keeps out of Tim's way.
But believe me, if Kane, McEichel or the other proceeds of this strategy aren't making watching the Sabres more enjoyable next year though, you can mail me a pitchfork.

I'm sorry, but I'm calling foul here. Calling Murray "Timmy" immediately brings to mind Connolly. Please cease and desist.
OK TrueBluey.
-
I am sure the relentless media is the main argument against Toronto.
-
I think Timmy would love to turn Griggy and Hogy and futures to nab a RW, but i think that's more a draft day deal.
-
You are sensitive. We chide because we love... not that I was even chiding.
Of course we're sensitive. You took Wayne from us and made Celine Dion a household name.
-
That's freaking shameless. Glad you went after him Sizzle. I did too.
-
I'd much rather have Seidenberg.
A Seidenberg Bogo combo would eat up a lot of minutes.
Weber and Gorges can support the kids, and we've got a decent D corps.
-
See, once again we are there when America needs us.Exactly, and we have 15X more websites that people want to visit than Canaduh.
Once again, no respect.
-
Cheveldayoff is shopping for forwards, GMs want to know if he will flip Myers, Dreger says he won't.
-
It's says Myers to the Ducks for John Gibson, Cam Fowler and a first.
Or maybe it's Nyquist and Larkin and the rights to negotiate with Mike Babcock.
I'm too self-obsessed to share.
-
How ridiculous is it that TSN still does that? Canadians are so self-obsessed.
That's because no one else is interested in us.
-
I don't know if Terry will get what Terry wants, or that Murray would have any objection to either of those guys.
I do think he will definitely kick those tires.
-
Kid should keep his mouth shut and play. I agree with Nolan on that part. And the answer to your question, yes some, not all of that sounds like whining.
And Ink it sounds a lot more like whining when I hear him speak those statements versus you writing them. It comes across as whiny when you hear him asking. Fair or not.
Sounds like Hodgson actually lol
Larsson played well again for the most part tonight against Jersey.
The kid battles, gets in the way and understands possession hockey.
Got caught out on a shift way too long and I don't think he saw the ice again.
-
It's only two games, but Bogosian again looked very good.
I haven't seen that mix of mobility, reliability and physical edge on this team since Mike Ramsey.
I can't say I am expecting him to be a number one defenceman, but I sure like the way he seems to want the role.
Long-term, it looks like we should at least be counting on him to be a Jay McKee.
If another McKee is the second-best player we get in this trade, nice work Tim Murray.

So here's what we're missing in GMTM's world. Bold is acquisitions and italics are possible upgrades.
Kane McDavid #RYAN O'REILLY
Moulson Reinhart Ennis
Foligno Girgensens Gionta
Deslauriers #4 C #4 RW
Bogosian #1 RHD
Ristolainen Zadorov
Gorges Pysyk
Starting Goalie
Backup Goalie
I don't agree with this as lines, but I think as a depth chart it is exactly correct and I also think it could be a competitive team, assuming Reinhart and McEichel can play.
McCormick, Flynn and Larsson are serviceable candidates for the fourth line, IMO.
So the question is what kind of 1RW and 2/3D can we acquire using some kind of combination of free agency, Hodgson, Grigorenko and picks/prospects.
*****
I see a lot of people matching Kane with McEichel and Moulson with Reinhart.
I prefer the opposite.
Line-wise, I think Reinhart and Kane are a perfect match: a force of nature who demands the puck with a hockey genius who can consistently get it to him.
I think McEichel wants the puck too much to play with Kane.
Moulson made his living in Tavares' shadow and I think he was signed specifically to do the same for our new franchise centre.
-
Love Kaleta, but he's done.
Glad this injury means Murray can't trade him.
Hope he retires as a Sabre, or signs on as a Rochester vet to teach Baptiste and Bailey and Fasching how to be Sabres.
-
Ted Nolan on WGR said Josh Gorges' injury could be season ending, but he is seeking different opinions from doctors
-
My opposition to trading Myers was based on the Myers for picks and prospects trades and the gaping hole trading Myers left on our blueline for the next year.
Since Murray was able to fill that hole with Bogosian, I am more than OK with trading Myers as a chip to get a better player. It's all about adding to the core.

Zemgus is better than he was last year and was particularly good in November/December.
He seems to have disappeared since, though. Hasnt done much in this calendar year with prime ice time.
-
But the thing is, Nolan's choice of tactics isn't getting the desired effect--we *are* getting blown out.
This. This is where Nolan has lost me.
I'd imagine this is where we'd diverge in our analysis and you would blame Hodgson for being lazy, and I'd blame Nolan for being inept.
And you'd both be right.
What is the pro-Nolan argument? How has he been good? Don't say helping the tank because they could have paid Sabretooth an appearance fee to do that.Anything to make the anti-Nolan argument work.
What has he done to deserve coming back after the worst season in Sabres history?
-
Looks like the odds are good we can replace Lemieux and Armia with our second and third picks.
-
I am not a Phil Kessel fan, but the man is an elite NHL goal scorer.
To us he's probably not worth the price he'll eventually fetch because he's probably too old for our window.
But of course you kick the tires.
qwk's offer is not much different than what we got for Pominville and he is a better player than JP.
-
I am reasonably certain Murray expected more from Matt Moulson, Brian Gionta, Cody Hodgson, and Chris Stewart this season.
He probably also was betting on a little more from pending UFAs like Meszaros and Benoit and Neuvirth and Stafford.
And he probably had an unrealistic hope that some of the kids would have contributed more than they have.
You could also make an argument that while nearly half the roster has underachieved, virtually no one has overachieved.
The mantra this year was development. Who is developing?
This part is not particularly aimed at you Sizzle, but I hate this idea that has crept into the fanbase that Nolan is beyond reproach because the management wants him to lose.

You both know this got out of hand a long time ago.
