Well done sir. Your goaltending destroyed mine. I wish I could have offered more of a battle. Next year.
You led this thing for most of the season. I'm glad my boys came together at the right time.
First time in the pool lucky for me. I'll definitely be back next year so you can take your revenge.
Thanks Nobody.

I miss the good old days, when we had legitimate NHL forwards who could score.
...like Jochen Hecht.

I'm looking forward to Murray making moves to make this team better this summer.
I will be pissed if he doesn't.
I just don't think those moves will be enough to get this team out of the McDavid derby. This team is too bad.
Semantics maybe, but I see it as the tank being over, just not the consequences.
-
Why do I get the feeling the Isles are going to offer their first round pick this year as part of a package to land Kane?
He's got a high douche quotient, but if he's on the market, the Sabres will be in on it.
He fits Murray's stated goals of: plucking talented players that fall out favour for whatever reason; getting heavier; adding to the youthful core; and getting better players.
-
Number four is definitely Draisaitl.
He has been compared to Kopitar and is the only big, powerful first-line centre available.
I would not be surprised to see him as our top pick.
-
I feel so dirty.
-
I had that poster as a kid.
Been trying to find one for my mancave - seems to be impossible to find.
I kept the one I had as a kid. Still hanging in my basement.
Finally DESLAURIERS!!!!
I'm not sure about the kid's hockey sense, but I like his effort, his skating and his size.
Glad to see him pot one.
Risto with a nice hit.
He looks so much more comfortable than he did under Rolston.
Kid has all the tools, and some edge to his game.
You can see why the scouts love him.
I'm still not a Hackett fan, but I will give him credit for settling things down in the second and third.
And I will give the team credit for doing the same. Second game of a back-to-back, crappy flight, two tough teams.
They don't have talent, but most nights they do have character.
-
I've seen enough of Hackett.
He ain't got it.
-
His game has been less of late and his frustration with the season shows.
But the Hoff is a legit top-pairng defence man, who will look a hell of a lot better when we get forwards who can think the game at his level.
-
If we buy him out though, doesn't the recapture disappear?
-
Great post Glove.
For his past flaws on the ice, Stafford seems like a decent guy.
I think that's a real good reading of his journey, and I hope a life lesson earned.
-
I remain firmly on board with whoever Tim picks (even if I'm scared he might be leaning toward Daisaitl)
But god, I love the way Reinhart plays hockey.
-
He's been good for the entire calendar year, maybe December too. He's playing like a leader and a legitimate NHL second-liner.
I've been ready to drive him to the airport for a long time, but I gotta admit, I am starting to pull for the guy to succeed.
He's been down so long and he seems to be turning it around through persistence and hard work.
All I ever wanted to see out the guy was a consistent effort.
He has never been this consistent over a 30 game stretch, never.

Using Bob's 25-and-under model, my perception of what the hockey community thinks of player ceilings based on a lot of reading and very little actual scouting: It's no competition between Buffalo and Vancouver, especially when you look at the sheer number of prospects Buffalo has
Projected elite forwards
Buffalo: none
Vancouver: none
Projected top pairing defencemen
Buffalo: Myers, Ristolainen, Zadorov
Vancouver: none
Projected top-six forwards
Buffalo: Ennis, Hodgson, Foligno, Girgensons, Grigorenko, Armia, Compher, Fasching
Vancouver: Kassian, Horvat, Shinkaruk, Jensen
Projected top four defencemen
Buffalo: Pysyk, McCabe
Vancouver: Tanev
Potential starting NHL goalies
Buffalo: Enroth
Vancouver: Markstrom
Potential NHL regular forwards
Buffalo: Flynn, Conacher, Deslauriers, Larsson, Hurley, Bailey, Baptiste, Carrier, Possler,Catenacci
Vancouver: Gaunce, Schroeder, Cassels, Grenier, Dalpe
Potential NHL regular defencemen
Buffalo: Ruhwedel
Vancouver: Stanton, Corrado, Weber
Potential NHL goalies
Buffalo: Ullmark, Hackett
Vancouver:Ericsson
Matthias and Lack are actually 26, but if you really want to include them, so are Neuvirth and Chris Stewart.
Some of those other teams have some pretty impressive lists, as do some you didn't include.
But the Floridas and Colorados are a few years ahead of us in tanking.
I doubt there is a GM in the world that would take Vancouver's prospect list over ours.
And that's not even counting the number of high picks coming in the next two years.

Top 2 draft pick (possibly 2 in the top 5) this year
Pysyk
Risto
Zadorov
Probably Grigs
This alone, with ZERO other additions make this team not only better, but a whole heck of a lot more fun to watch. There will be plenty of growing pains but my goodness, they could not POSSIBLY be as boring as there are right now.
Boring = Rock Bottom to me
This. We watched a good AHL team for most of the year, playing against teams that expected to beat them and played accordingly.
Watching that night after night, you couldn't help but get numb.
But reinforcements are coming.
They may not win many more games, but they will at least have nights where they look like they could.
There will be times next year when it won't feel like it, but the darkest days are over.
-
Garth Snow of course.
-
I would love to see Jagr playing with Hodgson/Reinhart and/or Girgs next year.
-
Grigo is a year younger than Armia and has played in the NHL. Armia has been a mediocre AHL rookie.
-
Sounded like Bennett was the third forward on our list listening to Tim Murray yesterday. (Reinhart, Draisaitl)
Not that I am going to read too much into what a GM says prior to the draft.

When Murray spoke about the risk involved with moving Ehrhoff at the deadline (if he retires before the deal runs its course) my first thought was, he's a buyout candidate. I really believe Ehrhoff would have been gone at the deadline if it weren't for the risk of him retiring early. I'm more convinced now than ever that we will use our two buyouts this offseason, one on Ehrhoff and the other on Leino.
Ehrhoff has not played at all like he wants to be here. I can't see Murray keeping him around when he's playing uninspired in front of all those kids.
Leino is a gimme, but that is some perceptive stuff on Ehrhoff. As I said above it seems like the waste of an asset, but Murray also said he didn't want any players that don't want to be here. Ehrhoff may have indicated he doesn't.
I could see him deciding a buyout is the only safe path.
CBA experts, can we let him negotiate a deal with another team, then buy him out on the condition he signs with that team and that team sends us an asset in exchange? I realize it's against the spirit of the CBA, but it's Tim's job to find loopholes.
-
Buying out Ehrhoff just doesn't make sense, unless it is tied to some convoluted way to circumventing the cap clawback, and is, in essence, a trade. He's a good player on a good cap hit.
As for the three untouchables that's a tough one. It's not clear if they are talking about players on the team right now, or not.
I don't have any untouchables, but my picks would be Risto, Zads and Girgs. On the team, it would be Myers, Girgs and..?
I do expect half the team gone, but I expect he was talking veterans. The other half doesn't include guys like Risto or Larsson, who have barely played for Murray.
Stafford, Girgensons, Stewart, Foligno, Ennis, Hodgson, Myers, Ehrhoff, Neuvirth and Enroth (pending trades) are the only veteran players on the roster capable of playing above the bottom six.
Which leaves five defence and seven forward spots to fill, most of which should be kids and/or fresh faces.
God knows it's needed.
-
So it looks like he's back after dizziness/migraines/difficulty focusing....
I seriously wonder if he is dealing with depression issues.
-
It's the right move.
Now go sign Ott and Callahan and Moulson and Orpik to help him grow the kids.

Consensus appears to be forming that Draisaitl is a notch ahead of Dal Colle.
So there is a significance to finishing fourth or fifth.
