  1. I don't think the bolded is accurate.  Stamkos probably confirmed that Toronto and Buffalo were willing to pay him $12MM x 7 years, and he already knew that TB was willing to pay him $8.5MM x 8 years.  The tax differences between NYS and FLA do not make up for the $16MM difference in total contract value or for the extra year.

Toronto is actually lower, and Buffalo is only $2.5M advantage over Tampa. http://www.tsn.ca/polopoly_fs/1.517591!/httpFile/ss-calc.html

  2. Is Nashville going to trade something to Montreal to get them to do this? The Habs have no incentive if not.

Even if the cap is up to $120M in 10 years (5% annual growth rate), that recapture penalty would destroy the Preds for years, there is a 0 percent chance that the league allows it to happen.

  3. And he's pretty much guaranteed to retire early, right? Is there any way he finishes out that contract in the three $1M years when he's 38-39-40?

"I'm sorry sir, there is just no way, medically, that Shea can continue to play hockey. That hang nail is just to deep for a 40 year old to recover from, we'll have to put him on LTIR."

  4. Which means he is NOT worth every penny. Look at NE. They'll pay Hogan, because in that offense, he works.

Indy will pay Luck and won't get a receiver worth a damn.

Even with the nothi. They put around him, he makes the playoffs if he stays healthy. Worth every penny, independent of their other issues. Quarterback is everything.

  5. I have no idea.  I know the mayor would rather spend it on concession stands, a restaurant, and a party deck, whatever that means. That's in the first article upthread.  But as far as I can tell, the Sabres are far from moving the Amerks to Portland.

The mayor didn't make that recommendation, that was a city consultant, according the the article.

  6. Perhaps I missed it somewhere but I don't recall seeing it.

Is there a compelling reason to NOT be worried about his blood clot issues from this year?

I'm not sold on sinking a major contract on a guy who might have to retire prematurely.

No risk there, if he goes out on LTIR, he will not count against the cap. See: Pronger, Chris.

  7. I don't see it happening, but I'll be giddy if the NHL starts seeing sign-and-trades. Such a fun aspect of NBA trading.

I am going to move into this new house, but before I do, I'd like to hit the foundation with a sledgehammer a couple times.

I agree the 8 vs 7 years thing as a reason to do this, but I'm still skeptical that it will come to be a thing.
