  1. 24 of the last 30 World Series winners have had home-field advantage. I'd say that's a significant enough number to think it's important. The fact that an All-Star game where each team is required to have at least one representatives and average players get voted in based on popularity could decide a champion is absolutely ludicrous and everybody should have a pitchfork ready if they care about baseball in the slightest.

Fans vote in less than 1/4 of the roster and getting to 1-rep per team still leaves you with 20 open spots. More than enough to build your league's beat 1-game roster.

And since they made the switch, only 4 series have gone 6 or 7 games, and those series have been split 2-2 between the home team and the away team. The old way was just alternating AL/NL, and with the massively unbalanced schedules in baseball, going by best record would be just as random.

  2. I'm not playing it too much, but I admit I find it entertaining for nostalgia reasons. I'm 100% in its target demographic as an under-30.

I think it's neat to see places that are usually devoid of pedestrians full up. The cemetery near me is a gym and two Pokestops. People riding bikes through it to get to the park nearby. Kinda neat.

Canandaigua, this time of year, is usually full of pedestrian tourists. Right now, there is holiday level foot traffic downtown (3 gyms and 11 pokestops). Lots of people looking at their phones, but almost everyone is traveling in groups, walking and having fun, and interacting IRL with other groups. That's probably the most noticeable change: there are always lots of people walking around, but now they're talking to each other. Living right smack in the middle of downtown, this is really cool to see.

  3. I want to be clear in my earlier statement. I wasn't trying to say he should be fired now, I am describing what I would do if I were his employer.

Given the current reported information and allegations, if I were the GM (or if this was one of my employees) I would be purposefully seeking information on my own, not waiting for the justice system, to determine if he violated my standards of conduct. If Kane instigates violence against multiple women, and I can find evidence that reasonably supports this allegation to my satisfaction, I would terminate his employment immediately, regardless of his value to my enterprise. I would do this knowing full well that there are arbitration risks to the decision.

  4. As always, I am sure Kane has a story to tell about how it came to be that he was grabbing several women -- one by the hair and throat -- at 3:00 a.m. at a sh1tty bar.

    *Sigh*

It is almost certainly not a compelling story. In any case, we are unlikely to hear it.

My best guess: Evander needs to lay off whatever recreational substance(s) that tend(s) to lead him into confrontations like this one. Because I don't think this sort of stuff happens if the guy's sober.

To the bolded, I'm not sure I care. If I'm the GM, I'm actively trying to get my hands on the surveillance tape, and if Evander is initiating the violence, I'm terminating his contract and worrying about the Grievance Arbitration later.

  5. Don't worry, the one I give our emotional whiskey friend won't be that bad. For everyone else, anyway. For him? He may take a playoff hiatus.

I'm in. If Matt Moulson scores 15 goals or 35 pts between opening day and the final regular season game, I select your avatar for the duration of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. If he fails to achieve either 15 goals or 35 points, you select my avatar for the duration of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. If he scores 15 goals early in the season, and then gets suspended for the rest of the season for taking Lance Armstrong level hgh and steroids, I still win.

  6.

The cap went from $70 million to $94 million, so yea, huge money being tossed around.

That's a guaranteed money comparison. NFL has worked hard to reduce guaranteed money. You could make a similar comparison with the top 6-7 NHL contracts.

  7. I see two differences:

    (1) KO's contract is widely viewed as at or below fair value. He probably could have got more. CE got a huge payday, there wasn't more money elsewhere.

    (2) I heard all his comments after "Especially Jack" as filler to avoid saying just "I'm gonna get to play with a great center, on either top line, that matters to me."

If this is different, it probably has nothing to do with the actual city, region, organization, but everything to do with the fact that we have players that good players want to play with. Similar to Hossa in CHI.

  8. There's a bit of a chicken and egg thing with Moulson last season. He had 11 pts in 24 games through November, still his worst season, but very near 40pt pace. Then he got demoted to 4th line minutes and only scored 10 points over his last 57 games while being a healthy scratch once. Playing better minutes in April, he had 3 pts in 4 games to finish the season. I don't know that a bounce back is ensured, but I'd say it's very possibly he will get 40 pts this year.

  9. How do you reckon he arranged the dual-godfather thingie?

I'm more thinking that he was aware of it.

Then Murray still gave Moulson an absolutely horrendous contract.

His contract indeed has the potential to be horrendous. It's also plausible that he bounces back to 20-20-40 next season. He's only 32, and now he has the extra motivation of having his best friend on the team.

  10. I don't think Ennis is gone until next summer,

If he moves. This summer would be a low point in his value, having played so little last year. His potential upside in value (to hold or deal) will be too intreguing for GMTM to move. If he does move this summer, I would expect its for an established defenseman who can play top line minutes for the next 3 years at least. I just don't think that trade will be available until next summer, after Tyler puts up another 25-30-55 season. I think a good indicator of this theory will be if Ennis is getting top 6 minutes he doesn't deserve. That would most likely result in a conversation between Murray and Bylsma about turning Ennis in for the defenseman Dan needs/wants.
