If our players didn’t just do drive-bys of the opposing net and actually camped out there, they might actually be there when the puck is and score some more goals. Ya know, Physical hockey.
The team could use a Vanek. Who just gets beat up all night but camps out and picks up the rebound.
We almost never get multiple opportunities on a shot.

Comrie just does enough to lose games - it’s been that way all season. He’s not horrible but he’s just not good enough. The timing of the goals are killer and he IS allowed to make a huge save once in a while.
he’s an NHL backup
Right, I look back and think “well…” (insert defense of goal). But I keep coming back to the fact that we’re something like 4-8 and maybe 4-9 tonight with him in net.
He’s not done, but sticking with him is becoming a difficult pill to swallow.

These guys don't play defense
They don’t do a great job in front of the net in either end. It feels like there’s almost nobody there to knock in the trash offensively.
Even on our last hot streak I’ve been thing about how a Vanek-like center would help a ton.

Razor, loving his own “good wood” take.

I don't get why a goalie wouldn't want to come here right now. We are one of the highest scoring teams in the league. Minus an 8 game (major) blip, this team has been a quality NHL team since the last quarter of this past season. The only piece has been goal tending.
The talk around Buffalo would be totally different if Ullmark was here right now. Different systems, I know. Consistent and quality goal tending change this team entirely.- 1

I don't like sending UPL down. He has been an integral part of digging us out of the 8 game skid. The Sabres are one of the hottest teams in the league. It just feels like too much risk for not enough reward.

Basically, the team was emotionally spent after 3 high emotion games (plus, unsaid, the Hamlin emotion) and just didn't have it tonight.
Expects a better showing against the Krackers tomorrow night.
Our constant reliance on one line make it almost a certainty we have these let down games.
I think we are a playoff team, that commitment to one line basically insures you get beat in 5 games.
(I don't mean to imply we would go 7 games against Boston in the first roun)- 1

It’s a great video. It really is. But this one still gives me goosebumps. It’s my fav. The “Better Days” are back for the Buffalo Sabres.
I never liked the “Better Days” video. I mean it’s fine. But it’s meh. The more time goes on the more I find the Goo Goo Dolls annoying. Might just be Johnny Rzeznik. Could be that spent a ton of money on the anniversary show at Shea’s and it was garbage.- 1

Every time Mitts touched the puck last night I said “effin eh, here comes Mitts with a TO”
Happy to be wrong. He’s been so much better lately.

We may have to take a forward off of the roster to carry another goalie, but you have to look at value to the team right now. We want to win now. Finally saying it - WE WANT TO WIN NOW.
I like a lot of your post, but to this point, the last few weeks we have basically been a one line team. I don't think that is sustainable and it needs to change. But....if we have to carry three to figure this goalie thing out, I am not sure it will have a major impact in the short term.

The NFL released what is OK for teams to do for Hamlin. It looks like the entire league is allowed to re-paint their 30's in red white and blue, jersey patches, warm up hear, etc.
Curious if the Sabres will do anything for Hamlin on Saturday since this is the first home game since it happened. -

If only we had adequate goaltending.....
RIP Comrie who did not have a good night last night.*

Amazing - Sabres are first in goals per game with 3.94. The second place team is Boston with a 3.73. Buffalo has the second best pp%. It’s currently at 28.2. The Sabres are 9-2-1 in their last 12. This is a very fun team to watch. Hope I’m not jinxing it, but I’ll say it. They are certainly in the playoff race. One of the hotter teams in hockey right now.

I'll take that period. The slouched a bit in the second half but got out with the lead.
My opinion on the second period depends on how we come out in the 3rd.- 1

Yes, the team is a work in progress. We need another solid vet defenseman to play with Power, who played 25 minutes tonight on top of 28 yesterday - he mostly plays with an AHL level partner which might hinder his offensive game.
Our second line has 2 good looking rookies that can sometimes have some bad matchups on the road, limiting their ice. Our third line has a few players that are not sound in our defensive zone.
The team is getting better, but not a veteran team that will win even when they play a bad game. Tonight was a tired and poor effort compared to recent weeks.
I really like this team. I just didn’t like the way we lost tonight. It’s weird to me to look so tired after a week off. I know back to back, Boston, etc. if there was an opportunity to win 7 in a row with or without working your top line, tonight against Ottawa seemed like the night.- 2

We got beat by a hungrier team… Disappointing… On the leaders… On the coaches…
Relying on one line to play 30 minutes a game isn’t sustainable either.
I get why your top 5 are toast tonight. I would have liked to have the team step up.

Flat footed most of the night. Disappointing. I get they’re tired from Boston. But they also had a week off.
I wish they were full of mistakes and turnovers but at least played like didn’t have weights in their skates.

Hopefully they’re rested enough after taking the first 12 minutes of the period off.

This team was fast and skated hard the first few months of the season. They were so much fun to watch. Win or loseS
The team the last few weeks looks slow and even lazy at points. Super frustrating. You don’t have be talented to keep skating hard.
