Because 1st round picks are drastically overvalued

Have you seen the movie Draft Day with Kevin Costner? It’s really good. If you watch that you’ll see what I mean

not in terms of my post it has nothing to do with that, it’s just a really good movie, you’ll see

Frankly, the lottery is what makes 1sts so much more valuable. When the Top 12 can give you #1, it inflates the value immensely versus 1sts from 13 on

Quick question.  How does KA fill the hole at 2/3C?

The best candidates for success would likely be Bennett or Karlsson.

Stephenson would likely want Mitts money thus ending that option.

What do you think our first round pick is worth?

I’d assume a good deal; once the lottery is over I’d be open to moving it.

They can’t hurt us anymore than they already have, we’ll get through it together as an online family

That team hurts me constantly; they run counter to everything I love about hockey and its structures.

Ironically my Armchair GM also ended up with issues for Quinn and Peterka only I used money on Matt Roy.

    Sorry just saw this.

I just chuckled to myself because you are pretty consistently against actually prioritizing the now whenever push comes to shove, despite advocating occasionally for otherwise. Saying you are only good with Tofolli if he comes to us at a whopping 50% of the projected AAV is the same thing as saying you aren’t interested. You see seem most concerned with our ability to lock up a roster that hasn’t amounted to anything and not very interested in actual improvement in the now

You can correct me if I am wrong but you don’t seem willing to give up much of anything to improve and seem to only want moves if they are unrealistically lopsided in our favour

There’s zero presence that I can glean of a willingness to “bite the bullet”, to make any sort of trade or signing that stings a little bit: which is of course what actual trades amount to

The trade for Karlsson is something I mostly like, I just feel it shouldn't require our Top C prospect to get since Vegas is going to have to move someone due to their absurd cap situation. (Plus I just really don't want to give Vegas another dynamic center)

As for Toffoli, I do really like his experience and continued competence on the ice; however, even if I may want to push more for the present I really don't want to end up in a situation with Quinn, Peterka and Levi having great seasons but losing 1 because we need to retain a 33 year old winger. If Peterka or Quinn flame out it wouldn't be a problem but in the best case scenario I don't want all of our happiness to get stabbed viciously by losing a young star.

If you sign Toffoli for 2x3.5mil I think that is perfectly reasonable and not a hinderance at all to Levi, Quinn, or JJP. At worst it only overlaps those new deals by one year and Levi isn't going to break the bank. JJP probably needs to be signed this summer and Quinn, you might want to see what he looks like healthy but I would expect an absolute explosion from him next year. Still, I think you can manage the 1 year overlap on those contracts, especially if you move on from Skinner via trade this offseason or via buyout next offseason. You buy him out next offseason and you save roughly 6-7ish mil against the cap that first year which is all you need to get to the other side of Toffoli.

Expected Buffalo had Toffoli at 2x7mil which is where my concern came from. At 2x3.5 you can make it work with some maneuvering. With 2x7mil you have no real options besides losing 1 or hoping you can bridge all 3 at reasonable rates

The first Expected Buffalo Mock Offseason is up.

William Karlsson is acquired for Matt Savoie and a 2024 2nd.

Tyler Toffoli is signed two years 7 million AAV

Jokiharju traded to Utah for a 2nd

Toffoli is 2x3.5mil here right otherwise I can't imagine us doing this as it would effectively doom any hope of resigning Levi, Quinn and Peterka.

And yet we didn’t get past Carolina.

I love revisionist history. It’s always right and can’t be proven wrong. I include my take, as well. That is a good point about returning players, though. I still think the entire exercise is pointless.

We lost due to injuries on our defense finally sinking us; had McKee came back for Finals we'd have been better than Carolina in theory. That being said we'd of lost if we had to field 3 AHL depth defenseman for the whole Finals.

Frankly this seems nothing short of petty by Friedman.

Its far too absolute to be true and I highly doubt Adams was outright lying when he said he spoke with double digits of candidates. Its far more believable to say Adams is stretching the truth or using a technicality than it is for him to blatantly lie to the press and fans while doing little to nothing for the past week.

Plus we know for a fact Friedman holds a grudge against Adams and the Sabres due to our rather tight lipped front office and the whole Eichel situation in which Friedman carried Eichel's agents viewpoint at every turn.

Meh. Not unless we got Pronger kicked out of the scf series as well.

I don't think we would of had an issue with Edmonton that year no matter how tough they were; that Sabres team weren't wallflowers and could certainly punch back while having two incredibly clutch centers in Drury and Briere. Now injuries are something we can't exactly allude to know how they would go down but if McKee could come back for the Finals; we'd of been in a slightly better position than Carolina had been.

I don't think I make that trade for Karlsson, perhaps with Östlund or Wahlberg I do but not with Savoie. After all, Vegas has to gain cap space.

Otherwise I'm ok with both moves.

The Sabres are not up against the cap, so I would buyout Skinner this offseason.  The numbers are not outrageous...

    https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator/jeff-skinner

I have no interest in re-signing Jost, Clague, Comrie, Olofsson, Girgensons, Bryson, Stillman.  Maybe Robinson at a reduced salary.

Trade Joker alone or in a package for forward help.  Trade 1st pick for forward help or RHD.

Kulich, Rosen, Savoie, Östlund, etc...all in Rochester to start the season

Top 6(no particular line combos) Cozens, Thompson, Peterka, Quinn, Tuch & ???

    Bottom 6 + 13th & 14th forwards(no particular combos) Greenway, Benson, Krebs, ???, ???, ???, ??? &  ???

    Top 6 defenseman + 7th & 8th(no particular pairings) Dahlin(L), Byrum(L), Power(L), Clifton(R), Johnson(L), ???, ??? & ???

Assuming 2 goalies, that leaves 8 spots to be filled with most important being a top 4 RHD, a top 6 LW/RW, solid 2 way 3C, and a LOT of 4th line grit.

I doubt we buyout Skinner this offseason; its far more tolerable of numbers next year.

It sounded to me like Lindy implied that Adams was in contact with him not long after Lindy was fired, caught the potential error and corrected it by adding something like "and after losing their (the Sabres') head coach...".

He may of contacted Ruff after Ruff was fired regardless; as the season grinded down he interviews a few more with him still being on the fence with Granato. However the commentary from some players adjusted Adams strategy.

Here are the two term with same team coaches.   https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/1043798

It has happened five times, and now will be 6 with Lindy's return.  None won a Cup the second time or even reached similar past heights.

Punch Imlach and Jacques Lemaire are the only Cup winners that went back to their Cup teams.

There's far more than those 5

    Claude Julien with Montreal

    Darryl Sutter in Calgary

Scotty Bowman and Ted Nolan here in Buffalo
