Ruff is a retread and wasn’t my choice but it could be so much worse. It could be meatballs or Ellis or Appert etc etc. Ruff brings legitimacy to the position in Buffalo that we haven’t had in a long time. Damn , we hired Krueger.

Atleast Terry can save some money with this hire, they might still have his name plate for his office hanging around, and HR doesn't need to waste as much time with the paper work or showing him around. He already knows where the office is and the bathrooms....

I disagree. Buffalo has a talent problem as well as a heart problem.

They should really get that looked at soon, after whats happened to Kim & Damar, you would think they would be on top of these kind of things.......

    j/k

As for Ruff, atleast they went back to someone with a successful track record for them, they could have always decided to go back to Botterill (Hey he has a cup win!) or even Kreuger (to help motivate the young team!). Atleast Ruff has still been in the league coaching since leaving here and has had some success making the playoffs (baby steps for the Sabres). I wouldn't start planning the Cup parade just because of this hire, but I'm a little more confident with this hire that they might be a playoff team next year.

Of course this isn't the big hire like Brindamour (who is still coaching a playoff team and doubtful he isn't retained, or some of the other names like Gallant or Boudreau who haven't been coaching since being let go. i think what makes this look worse is that it was done quickly after saying they would leave no stone unturned. It makes this look like they made a couple calls, but had this decision made a while ago unless he turned them down

Right.  I doubt it will happen in the next 5 years.

If they win the land deal, sounds like it will happen.

I believe the development plan they came up with for that land wasn't contingent on government funding and was mostly private.

The league will get a team back in Arizona again, it's one of their big goals. The only way it won't happen is if the entire state says they don't want hockey there. If the arena is privately funded, it will eventually happen

So the team will play in a basketball arena that was only able to seat 10k for the frozen 4 because the arena isn't suitable for hockey, and wait a few years till the new arena is built...sounds awfully familiar.

    10k is double mullets capacity.......

That’s between 6.45 and 9.67 million per franchise and the owner of one particular franchise is saving 18.5 million (that cannot be spent on other Football Players) after a WR was traded.

Granato behind the Sabres bench next year is unacceptable

    Hmmmmmm

He saves the cash, while the Bills take a huge salary cap hit in a year they were already making tough cuts to get below the cap.

Make sense that maybe he needed to save a few bucks to eat DG & KA's salaries while also paying for a new roof and scoreboard?

Alex Meruelo will have an exclusive five year window to bring a NHL Team back to Arizona. He does however need to hit certain benchmarks during that 5 year period to maintain that window

Oh and congratulations to the Buffalo Sabres, they officially now have the worst owner in the NHL

I believe there's one benchmark, get an NHL rink built for them to play in.......

So Arizona/Phoenix with an expansion team while Utah gets the Yotes f I'm reading this correctly.

From what I read the other day, the league would purchase the team from the current owner for $1B and then flip it to SLC/Utah for $1.2-1.3B where they would start playing next season. As a condition of the deal, the current Arizona owner would be given a 5 year exclusive window for an expansion team for Arizona (I'm also just guessing they will get the same draft deal as Vegas did too) if an arena deal is made to have a new NHL rink ready for them to play in.

Basically the league gets Arizona out of a college rink and into a new market that's looking for a franchise, but the league still keeps Arizona open as a location if they can work out a new arena soon. The league makes $200-300k for a new franchise location and puts pressure on Arizona to get something done already on an arena if they want to have a franchise. Hopefully the current owner gets it in writing though as it's been known a few other locations (like Quebec) have also been told that they could be next for a franchise if they provide an NHL level rink to play in.

But think of how cool it will be when the league introduced the newest franchise to the league starting in 2028 in Arizona and Atlanta, 2 locations that have shown to be just dying for NHL hockey.........

Has anyone been following along with the latest Kevyn Adams burner on twitter? Joined February 2024. Posted every day on *every Sabres post* we’d be making playoffs this season and that we were in excellent position to do it while sitting 8 points back, up to and including during the Dallas game, then immediately shifted tact upon elimination

The problem with the Sabres is that they are trying to put the cart way before the horse and build a 'Stanley Cup Contender's before having a 'playoff contendor'

Stop trying to construct a dynasty team and build one that can at least just get into the dance, them build off of that. There was always a worry about the cap, but winning teams are showing you that the cap isn't a hindrance as much as people think. Also, there was worries of blocking prospects from moving up, and wanting players moved up early. I can't think of any player that's ever been ruined by having to spend a little extra time in the minors.

Ignore the contract or Adams. Bales is excluded because UPL.

What have Granato and his assistants done that deserves retention for next season?

    Nothing

You can say it's on the players, but if so, then what's the point of the coach? They need someone who is going to take the players underperforming and make them perform, instead of having 'cuddle party' practices. The comment by Middlestat after his first Avs practice should have sealed DG and the coaching staffs fates immediately.

KA shouldn't get a pass or another chance either, this team has had holes for years and he continued to neglect them in hopes for internal upgrades and hoping they can just build off of the previous year.

Time for a fresh start (again) with some experienced people who will do whatever is needed to upgrade the team NOW, and stop looking at the future with hopes of building a dynasty

The biggest pressing problem this hockey club has isn't Jeff Skinner. It is the same problem plaguing this club for the past few years. Piss poor coach and GM!!!! Get a decent hard line coach in here who holds Skinner accountable for his ice time and maybe he becomes a better player. No coddling or excuses. A GM who can make hard decisions as well as backing the coach regarding on ice accountability, and maybe these high draft picks actually amount to something in this organization. Watched the Avalanche game the other night and the media were talking up Casey Middlestadt and how he has fit right in despite not scoring much. Funny how when these players depart and become "something" in other organizations.

    Yup, poor coaching and GM.

They need a coach who has had success and experience winning in this league (and not because they had one of the greatest players and teams carry him like Botterill did). They also need a GM who is willing to scrap this idea that they need to build a dynasty based off of building only through the draft and developing prospects. They need to start building a team thats going to get them into the playoffs and start trading for and signing players in FA that are going to get them to the playoffs. Once they have that, they can work on building a team to get them into the Cup finals......

    Thanks for nothing Terry.....

But maybe next year will be different and all those propsect will finally develop into the dnasty that everyone said they would be if they tanked all those years ago and made sure there werent any good players in the lineup to block the development of the guys in the AHL.......

And Terry is giving us all a new roof, so theres that!

I see nothing positive on the horizon, I will speak with my wallet. I renewed my season tickets late for this season literally two weeks before because I was so sick of the *****. Not going to do it this time

You are going to miss out not being able to enjoy those upgrades being made in the offseason........

Imagine how great its going to be next year when you get to see the same players, coach and GM lose a game like this with replays shown on a new 'state of the art' scoreboard and non leaky roof!

And not that it matters but UPL has been by far their best player all season.

Maybe thats why, they don't like him upstaging them and playing great?

A few weeks ago when there was still hope the Sabres could make the playoffs (there isn’t, so let’s stop kidding ourselves), I posted I would stop commenting on every mistake during a game and every miserable defeat after a game like last night…

I failed to live up to my word, much like Adams and Granato.

Granato needs to be replaced now… Let an experienced NHL winning head coach bring in his own staff… and use the remainder of this season to evaluate players and install a new system… Pegula needs to ante up…

If Adams won’t replace Granato, Pegula should replace Adams as well…

For all those who will bemoan another rebuild, we have most of the pieces to dominate the Division for years… The Sabres just need new team leadership with a winning pedigree…

    And a committed owner.

It doesn't have to be a 'Rebuild', they already have alot of pieces and alot of young talent and picks, its time to start using them to obtain players who will help know and not hoarding them because they 'need to look at the future'. They need a coaching staff and GM that can take whats here and turn them around with a few moves and better leadership

Halfway there and they’re done like dinner. I really wish KA would make himself available to the media on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Answer a few questions. Tell us how he feels things are progressing. Pipe dream ? Whatevs. The transparency would be nice.

Why? Do you really think your going to get any honest, truthful answers and not just the usual business speak about how they see progress and things about to change for the best?
