  1. Fun extrapolations for Zadorov:

    19gp, 7g, 10a, 17pts

    In a 68 game season... 25g, 36a for 61pts and a +/- of +50... he had 25pts last year in 63 games.

wow…incredible improvement and incredible numbers for a defenseman. I am so excited for this kid, he just keeps getting better. I guess they weren't kidding when they said after they drafted him last year that he had some untapped offensive potential. Combine that with his defense, physicality and attitude, and we could be looking at something special in the future

I should add that it has only been 19 games so its a small sample size, but if he somehow maintains that pace then that is very exciting

  2. With The islanders losing again, what do you do if you're the gm of that team? If u sell at the deadline, you risk being even worse and assuring yourself a top 5 or even a top 3 by the end of the year. But then you have to decide if you keep the pick or give it to the sabres. If u keep it, the risk is they are terrible again next year since they were sellers at the deadline, but their lottery pick is in the sabres hands for the eichel/mcdavid sweepstakes. While vanek is playing great for them, and they could probably trade him at the deadline if he won't sign an extension, I think in hindsight there's no way they would make that trade again

  3. Just a thought here, but is there any chance that the NHL expands to 32 teams in 2015, and if they did, how does that work for the draft?

Main concern would be that it would be the most Buffalo thing in the world to be the worst team in the league next year by a wide margin, but then miss out on BOTH mcdavid and eichel because the league added two new teams and they get the #1 and #2 picks...

Not sure if that's even possible, but man that would really grind my gears. And the nhl would love it as it sets up the 2 new franchises with definite franchise players to build around and would generate excitement

  4. Baptiste would have something like 16G, 16A on 82 games. Possler, because he's playing in the much stronger SEL, would have something like 28G, 17A, but his sample size is way small; I don't trust that at all.

McCabe's equivalency is at about 33 points so far this season.

Armia has taken a step back a little bit adjusting to Rochester in the nine games he has so far, down from 44 NHLe points to 15 NHLe points in this young AHL season. But he's got time to work it out. And I think he's been injured.

JGL slipped from 28 NHLe points in the QMJHL to 5 NHLe points last year in Rochester, but he's improved his way back up to 12 NHLe points so far this season.

Kevin Sundher's slowly improving his offensive game, up to 15 NHLe points from 12 NHLe points last year.

Eric Locke's putting up big number again for Saginaw, looking at 35 NHLe points again.

So Baptiste, who has 38 pts in 28 games (1.36 pts a game) in the CHL, is only good for 32 pts over a full 82 game season in the NHL?

Are there any players in the CHL who put up 3.48 pts a game which would equate to a point per game pace in the NHL? i thought baptiste was near the top but that may have been earlier in the year.

  5. Too-good-to-be-true fantasyland notion of the day:

Islanders suckitude continues and they end up deferring their pick until 2015.

Their slide rolls into next year as the Sabres start to rebound under Lafontaine.

Buffalo picks a very typical 11th.

But the Islanders finish 27th and "win" the lottery.

    McDavid is a Sabre.

And by his very last move as GM, Darcy Regier saves the franchise.

Today is one of those days when anything seems possible.

While this would be awesome, I view it slightly more pessimistically than you do. Islanders defer this year, and after losing Vanek, they continue to fall, finishing in last place next year. The sabres, while playing better, but losing Miller, struggle to win games again next year and secure 29 place. And then, in the most Buffalo thing ever, we still manage to lose the lottery, and to make it worse, the winner was the Bruins, leafs or sens, who had an off year and finished 17th, and for the next 15 years well have to watch McDavid tear out our hearts time and time again, as if it wasnt enough not to get him. ;)

  6. Hard to argue with the ristolainen and zadorov picks with how theyve looked and how we needed defense, but this team is in dire need of a gamechanging forward, and honestly I think a top 5 pick is what is best for this team. Look how mackinnon, barkov, monahan are all playing and producing immediately. I was hoping grigorenko would provide that but it seems we will have to be very patient with him. But with that said, the constant mediocrity instead of very good or very bad, continues to hinder this franchise. They need a top 3 pick and a talented forward. kind of depressing we went on the run last year and as a result we just miss out on the top guys this year.

How is the top tier of talent in the upcoming draft?

  7. Oh man, Devils fans are pissed.

I cant imagine.... he tells them NOW!? after the draft? after free agency? they could have possibly re-signed Clarkson with that money. boy did he screw them over. not to mention they lose their first round pick next year bc of his contract.

theyve lost parise clarkson and now kovi and a 1st rd pick in a year. ouch

  8. The thing I'd be more concerned about is how the refs didn't call Bobrovsky for covering the puck in the illegal area. When it happened I was standing in my living room shouting at the TV but nobody even said anything about -- including Sabres players who were right there and the ref who skated over and got the puck form Bob -- so I had to assume I had the rule wrong. Finally Versus guys said something about it during intermission. But how can four officials miss THAT call? There's a whole diagram drawn on the ice for comparison and they still botched it.

I joined you in screaming at the tv...it was right in front of the ref and so obvious!
