No that is totally incorrect. Some of them were in fact paying no tax or less tax than average people. Hiding money in foreign places. There were several prosecuted and loopholes closed. No doubt many are still getting away with it.
Couldn't give a toss about Tavares. I'm sure he still has net more money than me and you together, even with the added tax. Boohoo.
i am boohooing no one. but i will never begrudge a person to hold onto as much money as possible - we are all keen to do so no matter how much we make. regardless, this is a hockey forum and would hate for us to go further down the political side of things.

After last night's game, I suspect Quinn wished his injury wasn't fully healed....

Can't say for sure about these specifics but they did close some tax loopholes a few years back. That started when the whole look at how much tax is being evaded using overseas Cayman Islands type things. The public was outraged at examples of rich guys paying less tax than ordinary people so they went after a ton of loopholes. Tavares may have been caught up in that so I guess his Leaf PJs ended up costing him.
I have no sympathy for him.
As for players not wanting to play in Canada that is already a thing for some and we all know how no tax states like Florida get an advantage but I doubt it affects much. Matthews, McDavid, lots of big name Canada signings. They can make money other ways up here due to the popularity.
They are not paying less taxes than 'ordinary' people. They are paying a lower rate. But they are paying more actual taxes (money).
Regarding Tavares - he has every right to be upset. He signed a contract based on current tax law - and the government not only changed the law (which they can do) - but then went retroactive. Dangerous precedent.
Getting top tier players was already difficult for Canadian teams - this will make it even tougher...which I didn't think was possible.
That said, the allure of playing for Toronto will never go away....

3-0... premature to say the coach doesn't have the room?

What's strange around here is everyone up in arms over Jeff Skinner and his 24g, 21a in 64game season to date but very little around here about Peyton Krebs who in 70 games has 4g, 11a which is 5g and 3a less than 18yr old Zach Benson. Krebs either hits next year or they need to think about moving on from him. Noah Östlund is coming and I'd bet money I can get him to give me 15pts a year so why pay Krebs?
krebs doesnt make 9 million a year. probably mostly answers your nonsensical inquiry

This team will probably finish outside of the playoffs by double digit points 3 out of 4 years.
Some players are playing better under DG. But the team, as a whole, is more the same.
Coaches don't last long in the NHL. The 'team' is not responding to DG. Maybe some players...but not the 'team'.
Time for a change.

dont hate skinner - but i would rather him not be a sabre for reasons stated many times over. a veteran on a young team who floats and plays out of position on purpose is a bad influence.

The Sabres have 15 games left. Probably need to win 10 of them at minimum. That’s a tough out. If only we would have gotten more loser points in those 1 goal loss games or won 2-3 more games.
yup...with the current nhl point system, finding your way into OVT is so important. you can lose - but you have to get to OVT. compared to other playoff teams - too many regulation losses is going to probably haunt them.

So let me get this straight.
Moving KO, Mitts and EJ were done so they could start playing with pace.
They had no problem playing with pace last year having Mitts and KO.
KA adds EJ; this, EJ, Mitts and KO are not allowing the team to play with pace.
I'm gonna surmise that either Chad D is full of crap, his source is full of crap, or they are both full of crap.
I'm going with both.

I’m in the minority, but the league is telling us that this basic principal is allowed these days. Any team who wants to pay the bucks can do it so I’m fine with it. Also, no one is arguing Mark Stone’s injury isn’t legitimate.
I know the Sabres got jobbed a long time ago during the Tim Connolly era, but times have changed.
agreed. it is in the rules for every team to use. we would be more than happy with the sabres utilizing this...if they could actually get into the playoffs without their star players....well, get into the playoffs that is

I would like to think at this level the pressure never goes away and the competitors on our favorite team embrace that. It is what I would like to think.

of course....that's how you usually win games. Playing better than your opponent
The sabres played well and Detroit played well. Cannot both things be true at once?
Point is, it's a waste of time telling people how they should assess a game unless they asked.

Funny I woke up this morning and got on this board and started to look for the same old posters with their "oh Detroit sure were bad and the Sabres got them at the right time blah blah blah".... It is amazing that even when they play really good and win not becuase the other team had a off-night or were tired but that that Sabres werethe BETTER team period, same old posters have to make a positive somewhere into a negative. The team keeps proving with good goaltending they can win. I also think that sometimes minus can be a plus...we lost three players but gained one really good one and Byram is really good and a key piece moving forward. Not sure if we can sign him down the road (hope so) but for know the team is greatly improved with him in the lineup.
Having played and coached for many years at many differnt levels (I'm old), it is essential that the team feel confident in their goalie. Does not matte rif it is even little boys or girls playing...UPL has become a key piece in the team's success...kudos to him
Sabres played well and Detroit played poorly. Cannot both things be true at once?

Well that was interesting.
I don't know what's wrong with them, but Detroit was horrible. (haha)
The Sabres on the other hand played like the team they are supposed to be building so I guess they are? Well idk, it's an enigma in many ways but there are some players finally going to the front of the net, they played with speed and with a quick exit, and it all seemed to click today.
So both things can in fact be true. Detroit was bad AND Buffalo was good.
Now the test is to see if they can bring that or will it against a team that doesn't let you do what you want. They do that, and we might actually have something real.
Byram is good at what he does. The added D is allowing Clifton to settle into his role properly and he looks more like the Clifton from Boston last year. The only thing I did not like was they ran UPL twice, and we did absolutely nothing about it. That will not take us far if we ever do make the playoffs because you know if we did and UPL was playing well, a team like Florida would be worse than what we saw today. We need to be tougher.
Happy days today though.
Dead on UPL deserved better. Red Wings were being purposely *****.
Byram is no doubt the teams second best d man. (Still don't like trade in a vacuum). But he is way more NHL ready than OP.
Upside, allows OP to play less and learn properly.
Good game. Goals are fun.

The best for Krebs would be to go to a team like Sharks or Blackhawks to play bigger minutes with more responsibility.
I think the best thing for krebs is the 4th line on a average to below average team like the.....sabres? Dude has 3 goals. Z and Kyle have more....what's Krebs excuse?
He was one of KAs eichel trade pieces...he's getting all the opportunities in the world...and some would argue more than he deserves.
The 3 C talk is something I am praying KA is saying to the public bc Krebs is on the team and bad mouthing him is pointless....but behind closed doors he is telling pegula and DG that they need to find a 2/3 C for less than 7 million in the worst way.
I don't know what the #@*& this front office is doing

Thompson is the only player with the potential of the players you listed. And he showed he can't guarantee a multi year stretch of it.
Cozens...nope. at best a CONSISTENT 60 point producer. Not a bad thing...just not elite.
Skinner, Lord help us all.
JJ, like Cozens, good, but probably a peak 55-70 point season is what you'll see.
Quinn, we simply don't know.
Tuch, 60 point average season player most likely.
In our top 6, we do not have 2 players who can be counted on for a point per game.
This team is shallow offensively...which can work if you have an identity in other ways/areas.
If anyone can tell me of this magical identity we have that leads to success, I'm all ears

When plans fail or are failing and there's seemingly no tack to the right or left, THAT is when depression sets in.
Brandon Beane's plan this season failed. After about 24-48 hours no fans were depressed.
Great comparison. Well said

This is the biggest horse 💩 fallacy in hockey. Every team in the league has veterans that have won in the past. They can't all win.
The team with the most heart and talent is the one that wins. Both of these traits cannot be taught.
but but but...he won a stanley cup. i dont understand

Jeff Skinner, for the 1,000,000 times has a full NO MOVEMENT CLAUSE or an NMC. Good luck getting him to agree to any of the things you say here.
Matt Savoie. Jiri Kulich. UFA
in the off chance a playoff team came calling for skinner, you think he would say no to a trade to that team, with only a couple years left on his contract? i am fairly certain he says yes to that.
lord knows the sabres are not a playoff team as constructed in the next year or two.
