GAME DISCUSSION THREAD GDT: Sabres at Senators 7:30 pm 2-12-13

I get the feeling some Sabre fans have a tendency to think other teams very average goalies are better than Miller, due to the fact that the Sabres routinely make them look that way. That said, yes Miller is streaky - Probably always will be, but he's a goalie who steals games when he's on. IMHO, this team has bigger problems to address. -

Truth be told though, that's as little a fact as saying it will help. Fact is, neither of us know for sure, but some of us are willing to take a chance on change, at this point. Yes, we might end up sucking for another 10 years, who knows? Obviously though, Regier is as much responsbile for this mess as anyone else, as I whole-heatedly agree this is not a good roster. -

Ability, lack of ability - In this case it's all potato, potato. What he does isn't working, and something needs to change. -

As Ruff seemingly is never going away, that's probably a quick way to end a career. The way that man is allowed to run this team into the ground unopposed, I definitely understand why people keep their mouths shut about his lack of ability. -

On a team starved for secondary scoring too. I agree, it truly seems like he's lost his marbles. -
That was kind of my point in my first post - That the 5 man down low defense kills any transition game.
-
Have to agree, I literally *never* get excited by this team anymore. Mike Eruzione once described Pat LaFontaine like this "There are a few players, when they get the puck you kinda lean forward in a your seat a little, because you know something's gonna happen". I can't remember the last time this happened to me, but I'm betting it was the 2007 season.
-
I only caught the first half of the game, but the first Boston goal came from a turnover off a half-hearted clear up the boards.
-
That's what happens when your forwards are so deep in your zone, they have no option but to skate the puck out, ice it, or dump it off to center ice, only to have it put right back in their zone, with no chance of changing. The 5 guys down low defense is the biggest recipe for the disaster I ever saw, especially because it completely kills any transition game, unless puck possesion is gained somewhere near the blue line, which is almost never the case.

I have a hard time seeing this team winning two straight, and I have an even harder time seeing them do it against the Isles. Prove me wrong!

Yeah, he decided to go dangling around the zone, instead of playing his position on the PP. Worked like a charm of course, as he ALMOST got into a position where he MIGHT get a shot off.... SO close..... -

Don't underestimate these guys' ability to make any AHL hack look like 1998 Dominik Hasek. I literally cannot remember the last time they lit up a backup. -

Yup, it involves leading the league in GA and GF. Halfway to greatness as we speak :wallbash: -
I think playing the most boring and slow game in the league is what has Myers in a "funk". I don't believe it's a funk at all, I believe the Sabres play to his weaknesses rather than strenghts. In his Calder season, he was awesome at rushing the puck up the ice using that long stick to keep the puck away from the opposition, just to mention one of the things we never see him do anymore. I simply believe the Sabres play a game that is way too slow and defensive-minded for him to thrive in, as he's no longer the rookie and has probably been coached to be more defensive, and a new defense partner won't rectify that. Sure, other teams catch on to an extent, but I don't believe a Calder trophy winner becomes an overpaid nobody in just 3 seasons, for no good reason.
