YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM, it reinforces that people will move for them lol!

I think the middle ground is you stop, and they'll either go around you (dominance asserted!) or walk into you and you can be mad at them. Or they can stop too and it'll be a stalemate. To counter that, I suggest you carry a red cape and step to the side while holding it out and shout, "ole!" as they go by.

I "weave" around them especially those driving slow in the left lanes on their cells and cut the close with my brights on.. yeh that goes for the blonde and the old guy today on my way to work... my passive way of showing my appreciation for their obliviousness....

  2. I get the sense Adams doesnt want to make a big mistake... still Östlund and Rosen are duplicative... heck Id throw in Ollie too... but he needs a goalie whisperer scout to find another younger version of Anderson... not sure who yet,  goalie is such a hard position to id fit and talent... but like QBs in football you keep trying til you hit on one.

  3. Western MA has some great places as well... everything from skiing to boating on the Connecticut River, College hockey and basketball UMass Amherst, music venues Look Park Florence Mass, and great overlooks... Skinner State Park, Mt Sugarloaf, Basketball HOF, Dr Suess museum, Lenox Mass for well heeled at Tanglewood... good food venues especially Northampton... and if you need a place to during the summer let me know.

    Dale Murphy the baseball player?

Off topic, but I think he might be one of the most underrated baseball players ever. I was a kid, but It just seemed to me like for the day, the value he was to his team, the way he played, his overall talent wasn't talked about much compared to many of the other stars of the day. Phenominal player.

No the defenseman for Caps and Detroit... sorry Larry Murphy.

My mentor got his Masters degree in Electrical Engineering and never took out a loan, paid as he went.

For context, my Mentor is my age, 52, we worked together for the first time on the Lakeside Power Plant, Levi, Utah. That was in 05. He was 2 yrs in to schooling when I met him. He finished up his Masters in 2016. Yes, 11 yrs, but we could make 100k+ a year with the hours and only work 8 to 10 months.

I always smirk when I hear all the hoopla around student loans. I literally don't know anyone in my personal life who took out loans. Every one of them worked, banked, paid, rinse and repeat per semester. And I know many who have degrees.

I had 1 loan switched schools and got a job at the new University... received free tuition part time... lived frugally and graduated with no debt... paying off the loan before graduating... it can be done if you are determined.

Disclaimer: This isn't a complaint session, merely observations that lead to some humor, at least, for myself.

Laid off Dec. 22nd, I started interviews mid June, after my mum passed from cancer. I've been through 17 interviews to date. Here's my take so far.

52 yrs old, every interviewer to date, from Borthtowns to Southtowns and east burbs all pointed at my age during the interviews as possibly problematic.

When initial phone interviews were done, in my field (industrial electrical) there's a test of skills, be it written or verbal via over the internet or on the phone.

Now, here's where it gets humorous. After being told my age is problematic, 15 of the 17 companies called me back following their search for a qualified individual. Many of them stating I was the most qualified applicant by far (25+ yrs in field you tend to accumulate a great deal of knowledge). But the age thing seems to persist, with many TAT's (Talent Aquustion Team) asking if I know of some younger individuals in my trade that are looking for work. I oblige them an answer and tell them the skilled trades have seen a reduction in interest over the last 30 years.

Now here is the real humor, in each follow up call, they establish they'd like me to come in for a plant walk through and to offer a position. I kindly tell them I will do the walk through but will not make a decision until I've completed a thorough interview process of all 17 of my current offers, and that list grows by the day.

You should hear the call backs and/or final in-person interviews. All of a sudden, age isn't problematic, as I've had multiple potentials, especially non-union (no contracts to adhere to) up their pay offers or paid time off scenarios. It really is humorous how fast they change their tune lol.

Curious on the non union thing, Im in the healthcare industry and turn 60 in another year... hit 10 years in the union and trying to decide the +- about higher pay v benefits. I could go on my wife's insurance but it isnt as good... ps I also will receive a fed pension.

  7. Sat on a plane with Dale Murphy... nice guy...

Got Gilbert Perrault's and Gerry Korab's auto at a signing... both were joking with each other...

Met OJ at an airport, signed my superman comic book... lost that a long time ago...

Used to go to UMass games and skated after UMass practices  where I met Quick and journeyman D who played for Sabres, Toronto I forget his name... both nice Quick was kinda quiet...

Met Steve Santini now with i think Mini.. played with NJ, St Louis.   Met McAdoo when I was little...

When I went back to school for Radiology I drove limos... met Kaletta after a game and gave Paul Hamilton a ride to the airport from MSG very nice guy.

No, don't have an athletic bone in my body. The Brewster Ice Arena is literally in the middle of nowhere but can lay claim to hosting the only "pro" team to ever play in Putnam: The FPHL's Brewster Bulldogs.

And they still have a junior team there... and Steve Santini, who I think is with the Blues organization now, his father and Uncle own the rink.

Actually it's in Pawling which is in Dutchess County. Daryl's Place is roughly a mile north of the county border with Putnam (I myself live in Brewster).

Sorry you are right... keep forgetting where that line is... We pass it on the way to my wife's friends house... and have stopped in a few times to see music... we live in northern westchester near putnam line off 684... ps I still play hockey in Brewster...  do you play?

To me “Higher compete” means play a complete game, which includes defense too.

Saying that and doing that are too different things... guys can learn but it may take a rude awakening like the benching... hard to say with Ollie... I think his intensions are good but not sure he fully gets it... I still want him gone as soon as a viable replacement is found ie one of the kids step up.

So the data says we might regress in scoring? I’ve always found predictions difficult, especially ones about the future, as Yogi Bera said

Or they could score more too... tis the silly season of stupid predictions... 😔

I am skeptical. Boston was one of the top defensive teams in the league last season. Buffalo, one of the worst.

While I agree both individual player as well as group growth will help, it is highly suspect to believe Clifton and Johnson are going to be the additions that stabilize the back end.

It doesnt take much sometimes to stabilize the back end, sometimes 1 guy or 2, change of pairing... certain guys read off each other better than with others... on ice chemistry is a big thing... finding the right combo for Power will be key.  I could see Johnson being the guy to start the season and the moving in Clifton later.
