  1. I am a little surprised at how poorly they play at times. I thought they would have better effort but not win many, if any, more games. However in looking at the team I'm not sure the roster is any better than last year. Enroth/Neuvirth aren't better than Miller/Enroth/Neuvirth/Hacket/Leiuwann/etc. were last year and might be worse, I don't think the forwards are better, and I don't think the defense is better even though some of the faces have changed. As long as the Sabres finish last, I'm fine with them stinking up the joint. Due to McEichel it is the best way to rebuild.

  2. Current standings through games played 1/15.

Sabres doing all they can to catch the juggernauts since the 1st of the year. Pulling off feats of futility such as giving Dubnyk a SO could demoralize the competition. (Let's hope.)

The 3 teams that were idle last night are the only 3 in action tonight.

Thanks for putting this together and keeping it up to date.

Even with a 9 game winning streak we're still 2 pts behind Edmonton. Have to wonder just how bad they are and can you imagine being a fan.

  3. I think my comment is being taken out of perspective. I'm not blaming Nolan, although certainly he gets a share of the blame, I fully understand the lack of talent on the team. Especially when Matt freaking Ellis is on the team.

My point is the heat that GMTM must feel with a game like this from this team. Nolan is now bumbling and seems shell shocked to me. The point really is can GMTM stand the heat that will be coming from all above him including El Pegual and the fans. Pro tank or anti tank people are going to be more than restless.

And the pressure is building. What an udder crapfest last night was. Who needs tickets? Every game of mine is available except the Vancouver game.

I don't think there is any heat on Murray from management now. In fact, if the Pegulas weren't so busy with the Bills, they would probably be doing cartwheels over the drop in the standings that has occurred. This team clearly wants to finish last. The roster is built for it and a quick turnover after this season. There's probably only about 4-6 players that will be on this team 2-3 years from now. These guys just aren't good. Everyone that matters in the Sabres organization knows that and is ok with that.

    MPP = Maximum Possible Points

Punted Lindy's squad. Replaced them w/ Vanek, Pomms, & crew.

Only 4 NHL games tonight but 3 CHLers among them. C-bus, Filly, & Joisey all in action.

Have some more work to do, but the outlook is much brighter than it was a couple of weeks ago.

  5. The Shart is ours to lose, but the GM for CHL Champion must make the bold moves to guarantee that it happens. The Sabres Corsi Total -910 at the halfway point. Their goaltending stats, with the exception of losses, are more in the middle. My worry is may cause a few critical losses, Enroth may need to move and bought back in the offseason.

I heard the Total corsi discussion on WGR this morning. I'm wondering how reliable of a stat that is? Carolina was something like 80, Toronto was the second lowest at around -400, Buffalo was -910. I think they mentioned some others that I can't recall. Carolina is 29th but has a positive total corsi and Toronto is a playoff contender with the second lowest total corsi number. Anomalies? Not reliable? Needs to play out over a season.

  6. To endure two bad seasons and come away with anything other than 1 of the top 2 spots in the draft would be very, very disappointing. Selecting a Defenseman at all could set the rebuild back a year or two. The sabres really need the scoring that McEichel should provide in either goals or assists. Even to get Crouse, who appears to be ranked third in some rankings, would be a big drop off from McEichel.

  7. My opinion is, Timmeh doesn't need to be very active at the trade deadline.

out of our UFA's, stafford / enroth are our best guys who might get us 1st rounders in return.

stewart won't net more than a 2nd rounder, doubt anyone wants meszaros or benoit or neuvirth.

He should wait what pick we get at the draft, if its for cojack, you don't trade myers, if you end up having to pick hanifin, myers should be traded for an elite winger.

Do you trade Myers or the 3rd pick for that elite winger if possible? Or do you attempt to trade down to 4th or 5th and pick the next best forward? Is Hanifin that much of a sure thing that he is taken over the 3rd best forward in the draft, a much bigger need for the Sabres? Or trading Myers and plugging Hanifin in his place? Just wondering as I don't really know.

  8. Ennis is easily replaced in FA if needed. He probably isn't a key component if the Sabres are to reach the playoffs and beyond. Myers - Somebody has to overpay greatly to get Myers. He could be the top pairing defenseman here, but if someone is willing to overpay with a top six scoring forward+ pull the trigger. As to leadership, we still have all 3 captains and Girgensons going forward. The more I hear about the prospect pool it becomes clear that the Sabres are missing top 3 forward talent. Right now there is Reinhart, maybe Grigorenko and maybe Armia. Everyone else seems to top out at 2nd or 3rd line. I believe McEichel is key for this reason and am hoping Murray can figure it out. I will agree though it appears that it gets more difficult by the day given Edm is leading the way.

  9. Agreed there isn't much left that would be able to be traded. I'd start with the two UFA goalies. Trade Enroth for sure, maybe Neuvirth as well but it also might be good to keep him around because his upside is better. Then move on to Ennis, although might be useful as a 2nd or 3rd liner in the future, trading Ennis neuters the top line and he'll never be worth more than he is now. Next is Myers maybe worth more in a trade than on the roster. If that is what it takes to complete the tank, I don't have a problem trading any of them. The only off-limit players are the youngsters, unless of course someone is willing to extremely overpay.

  10. Of

Let's say last place comes down to the final game and Moulson is due up in the shootout. A miss and Buffalo finishes last. What does he do? Dump it in the corner? Fire it over the glass, then rip of his jersey to reveal a McEichel t-shirt?

That's ridiculous. There's no tank in any of these players' game. They play for each other and the head coach.... that's it.

Of course Moulson does everything he can to score. The tank is not about the players intentionally making bad plays it's about the GM manipulating the roster to facilitate the tank. The coaches and the players are not in on it.

  11. Jordan Staal's first game back but Canes still lose. They should "win" a few more.

I hate to see this team be pushovers and still hope we play well. Tankers will be numerous in the New Year and will make it difficult to be dead last. Second last still means a shot at first pick and second pick provided the last team wins the lottery. Decent McEichel odds with Hannifan/Strome/Zacha/Marner choice as consolation.

Really need to secure one of the top two picks ensuring McEichel. The dropoff from McEichel to the second tier forwards makes finishing last well worth it. Yes the second tier will most likely be good but what is the difference between drafting first/second and third or below? And sure we could draft Hanifin but that leaves us without a top line forward, which is a much bigger need, or the option of a trade. I don't like the thought of settling for Hanafin or even more so the second tier of forwards after two years of losing. We most likely won't get a top line player the quality of McEichel in any trade. This leaves us with the best option for the franchise as finishing last and drafting McEichel. Finish last, keep all of our assets (no reason to make a trade for a forward) and get McEichel. The rebuild would be on with the best possible start we can reasonably hope for.

  12. Time for Murray to pull the plug. Finishing out of the top 2 drafting positions just doesn't make any sense for this franchise. After reading and hearing about McEichel and the Sabres prospect pool I'm even more convinced that McEichel is needed. The Sabres have lots of 2nd and 3rd line players and some of them will be NHL players. They're missing the top line players that can score at critical times and are difficult to get via trade or FA.

  13. Wasn't sure where to put this but since GoDD resurrected this thread I'll put it here.

I'm as big of a Tampa Bay Bucs fan as I am Bills fan and for all you Sabres pro-tankers out there this is how you get it done!!

    http://espn.go.com/n...ecure-no-1-pick

The Bucs lose yesterday and they pick first in the draft. Win and they pick second. Well with them beating the Aints by 13 in the 4th quarter Lovie Smith literally pulls all of his starters. VJax and potential rookie of the year candidate Mike Evans didn't play a snap in the 4th Q. When Evans was asked about it after the game he said the coach thought he was winded so he didn't play. He was winded the whole 4th Q?! With all third and fourth stringers in the Aints came back and won the game late, thus sealing the first pick. Sabres, are you watching?!

I'd be fine if the Sabres did similar for the rest of the season to ensure they draft no lower than 2nd overall. After reading and hearing about the current Sabres prospects I'm even more convinced that they need McEichel.

  14. I wouldn't have a problem trading Pysyk, but I wouldn't trade Grigorenko just yet. He is one of only two or 3 players/prospects that have top 3 natural ability. I'd wait some more to see if he can put that natural talent to full use. I'd consider trading Myers and Ennis if someone is willing to overpay. They might be worth more in a trade than on the roster long term.

I'm hoping Murray can get the Sabres back in the race to the top pick. Stewart, Stafford, and Enroth should go. I'd resign Neuvirth. Zemgus, Moulson, Gionta, and Gorges are virtually untradeable due to their circumstances and leadership, Risto, Zadorov, Grigorenko, Reinhart and Armia because of their potential. Everyone else is available especially if someone wants to get silly with 1st round picks this year.

  15. Strome has the potential to be a number 1 center and Hanifin would give GMTM The ability to trade a young D Man for a scoring forward. Either or will work.

With such a small difference in results needed in getting McEichel vs Strome and the apparent big difference in their prospective play, I hope Murray does whatever is necessary for the Sabres to get McEichel. It may be impossible now, given that Edm and some others have tasted 30th or the near it, but I still hold out hope that the Sabres can make it happen.
