  1. I think if we get 18 out of these 28 remaining points it is smooth sailing to McEichelville.

I could see Ari and Edm winning out.  We're only up 2 on Edm and only 4 on Ari with a game in hand and we play 2 games against Ari.  This looks tenuous at best given the winning ways of Ari and Edm.  I keep seeing us finishing 2 or 3 and that would be a disaster unless we can win the lottery outright.

  2. statistically speaking the Sabres should earn somethin like 5 points over their remaining games... so we shall see. Just know as much as it may suck to hear, there are other players outside of McEichel that will be very good NHL players.

Edit: I lied, they could earn 9.5 points roughly over their final 15 games so if the pattern holds true we need Edmonton to win 3 games and Arizona to win 2.

But a team doesn't intentionally finish at the bottom of the league for any of those other players.  That's reserved for the likes of McEichel.

  3. Watched the first 2 periods last night, and I found it weird how I was annoyed when we scored - and weirder when I was delighted when I woke up to discover we lost. Don't like the feeling of cheering for a loss, at all. But we know the prize, and that's got to remain the aim.

After this season, the offensive skill on show will be crazy. It'll have to be carefully maintained though, otherwise with too many rookies, we'll become Edmonton.

Still, I have my doubts that we'll even get the top-2...

I'm hoping the Sabres can open some space between Edm and Ari the next week or so.  Way too close for my comfort.  Nobody tanks for Hanifin or Marner.

  4. At times Grigs looks lost or indecisive.  He just looks like he doesn't know what to do next.  The game the other night I thought was a good example.  The first 2 shifts he looked terrible.  As the game went on, and he became more comfortable, he looked somewhat better.  Maybe he just needs a few games to get comfortable in his role?  If I remember correctly, he started kind of slow in Rochester but as he became more familiar with his linemates and the team he became better.  At 6-2, 215 and that much natural ability I hope they don't give up on him just yet.

  5. Why is Forsberg playing!? Its not a back to back and McIlhenny had been red hot. This makes no sense. Pure tank move by CBJ.

It's possible that the other 29 teams have come to some agreement where they will all play their backup goalies against the Sabres to increase the Sabres points totals so that they can't win the shart.  Just some payback for so openly tanking.

    Or not. :-)

  6. I like him too Liger. He is confident, maybe a bit cocky. Not worried about his rehab or his game being affected. I'm excited to see this guy in game action giving it his all for the sabres. Just wish the Buffalo media would look forward instead of back. Personally I don't care about what went on in the Peg. Before the trade I had my concerns but since Murray downplayed that stuff and Evander himself has shook it off I'm 100% on board.

it's a good thing that Kane was patient during that press conference.  With the media buffoons at their "best" had he not that press conference could have become very antagonistic very quickly.  I understand questions about his shoulder, about his coming to Buffalo and some questions about what happened in Winnipeg.  Just don't understand why 80% of the questions were negative questions about what happened in Winnipeg.  Just once I'd like to see the player answer a question with "it's none of your business and don't ask again."  I'm sure he'd get crucified in the media for months but it sure would be nice.

  7. Nolan may very well be gone after this season.  I think that would be a mistake and highly unfair but we are talking about the Sabres and the NHL.  As to all of the speculation about Nolan being gone, no one is saying that they have been told that Nolan will be gone.  It appears that they are basing their opinions and reporting on what they "think" would usually happen with a team that was this bad and went through a 14 game losing streak.  This team isn't in a normal situation, they were meant and designed to lose.  Normally the coach would have been let go when the losing streak reached double digits.  This Sabres team isn't normal.

  8. I don't like what I'm hearing about this trade so far.  I think the pieces could be used in better trades.  However, it's by far the most exciting thing going on with the Sabres since last season's trade deadline.  And I like that Murray is doing something even I don't like the details of the trade.

  9. This is buffalo1000, I have told about the tallinder trade and a few more before they have happened. This trade is ready to happen, sabres will announce tomorrow if they make the trade. Winnipeg has already signed off

    Tyler myers

    Drew stafford

    Joel armia

    Brendan Lemieux

    2nd rounder

    For

    Evander kane

    Zach bogosian

    1 st rounder

If Murray makes this trade, I'll lose a little faith in him as a GM.  Take out Armia & Lemieux, with them in it I'm not sure we are any better after this trade long term.  I have a hard time understanding Myers in a trade for Kane but Myers, Stafford and a 2nd or even a first would be palatable.  I still think its an overpayment though.  I'd prefer taking out Myers and inserting Stewart or even Ennis.

  10. I don't consider the 3 on the team prospects anymore. They are now regulars on the worse team in the league. I don't consider Mackinnon, Eckblad, etc prospects either. They have made the jump.

What we have behind these 3 is one top prospect and a whole bunch of question marks. Am I the only guy who isn't slightly concerned with this??? Yes, we have McEichel possibly coming. And we have probably 4 more players that we can add to the prospect pool.

Call me Debbie Downer but I am not hanging my hat on the two guys in Rochester. They could go either way IMO. As for players in juniors and college. You might get 2-3 guys that can help in 2-4 years.

Why do I say all this?? Because Murray is not going to sniff a Cup by sitting on his hands with what he has in his toolbox. He has to take a few risks. Turning Myers into 3-4 players is a risk I can live with. Taking a gamble on Kane is worth it IMO.

I will get butchered for this but I can honestly see a team next year without Stafford/Stewart/Mitchell/ and Enroth being worse than this year.

    He needs to be aggressive!!

The current crop of prospects seems to have a lack of scoring/top line talent.  I've read through many, but definitely not all or even most, of the write ups on the prospects.  IIRC there are only 3 forwards that are rated to have top line play making/scoring potential, Reinhardt, Grigorenko and Armia.  The rest of the prospects are identified as 2nd or 3rd line prospects that may very well be good players but probably aren't going to be top line scoring players.  This is a very big reason why we need to get McEichel out of this draft.  And Murray needs to trade for some scoring.  I'm not sure Kane is that player, but Murray may need to take a chance that he is.  I would prefer that Myers stay but if Murray can get his asking price Myers may be worth more in a trade than he will be as a single player.

  11. If I am trading with Anaheim I want Fowler, Gibson and a pick for Myers.

I understand getting Gibson and picks.  I don't get trading Myers for another defenseman.  It seems to me that if Myers gets traded it is for something the Sabres lack, the goalie of the future or offensive scoring.  That's the opportunity.  Trade an asset where the team is deepest for where the Sabres are not.

  12. This team REALLY sucks right now and if there is a chance to get Kane, do it now. Anyone having fun watching this shiitshow as it stands? They HAVE to take a chance at some point and Kane on the wing is just another building piece to what the ultimate goal is.

It all depends on what we have to give up.  Ennis straight up? Done.  Stewart? Done.  Maybe throw in a 2nd this year.  Myers? Not unless there is more than Kane coming back.  So far Kane has been a problem child and has a great amount of risk.  I wouldn't be willing to do more in a trade.  Just move on to the next option.

  13. I'm going to disagree and if I had to guess on those I'd say Pysyk is with the Sabres and Grigo traded.

I really hope they give Grigo another full year or two to see if he can put it together.  Outside of Reinhart & Armia he probably is the most naturally talented player in the organization.  After a rough start it appears that he may have figured it out and is starting show signs of being a decent player.  I'd really like to see what he could do with a couple of wingers that can score.  Maybe two of Ennis, Armia and Moulson at various times.

  14. Current standings through games played into 1/26.

(No clue why that formatted improperly and I'm not taking the time to fix it. Good luck, Taro. New format may have messed this up).

That's what we have going into the home stretch. The Sabres control their own destiny.

Fun fact: Every single Carrion team plays at least one other Carrion team in their first five games after break. We should have a lot of movement early.

1/27's slate includes three potential one-pointers:

Buffalo Daggers visit the Candles in Calgary

    Mini-soda visits the Saudi Oilers

Seattle Yotes head to the Philly Grounders

    And the rest:

Carolina Light Drizzles head to Tampa to face the Lightning

Colamebus Black&Blue Jackets host the Capitals

    Colorado Snowballs head to Smashville

    Dallas Twinkles host the Canadiens

Lot's of work to do.  Tonight would be a good start to get a win against Calgary in preparation for the show down with Edm.

  15.

This tank business is an enormous, enormous ###### crap shoot. It's unprecedented how all-in this team is for the draft, and either way this whole thing goes, it'll be studied by professional sports managers all over the world for quite a long time. And I'm excited about it.

I agree that the tank may fail, but the Sabres still have the option of signing FAs and trading for players. This is why the tank plan is less risky than the non-tank. While the tank is painful, it is far more interesting than finishing 9th or 10th every year.

  16. Dan Marr from central scouting was on WGR this morning and basically said that teams drafting in round 1 this year would get a NHL player. I would like to see the Sabres package a 1st & 2nd or other to move up in the 1st round but not both 1s in the same deal. At the end the Sabres still have 3 1st rounders, but they've moved up in the order. I think their holes are so many that I'd like them to keep 3 picks in the 1st round though.
