  1. The only difference is that Enroth did enough to get this teams some points. Enroth has gotten 5 points in four starts. Lalime has gotten 9 wins total in his two plus years here in Buffalo. Sure, every goalie lets in soft goals. The difference can be as simple as the timing of those goals Lalime let's in.

You mean like with just under a minute left in the period? ;) And he got lucky that there wasn't another goal in that game (that was an awfully fast intent to blow). I still think that if there were real NHL refs for that Rags game, we lose by two in regulation.

  2. I should also say that I think it's a really good idea to not start Ethron. I think he would get absolutely blown up by Washington. Let him ride on the confidence he's gotten these past three games and grow on it a little. No need to knock him back down just yet.

  3. I would like to see the Sabres come and play a open run and gun style. The Sabres pretend they have all this talent in their "core" or "top six" players. It would be nice for Ruff to start coaching like it. They don't have the heart or toughness to play strong defensive hockey. If this team has actual talent let's see it in all of it's glory.

To Ruff's credit, I noticed at the Devils game several times there were Sabres (McCormick most often) at the far blue line waiting for a long pass from our own zone. When I watched it at home, you couldn't even see him on the screen.

Why is Miller starting? You have a goalie that just won 5 out of 6 points? Enroth should keep playing. The Sabres could have their own Rask/Thomas situation here.

I'm not saying Enroth is a world beater. I think the kid earned this start. Simply put, he won some points. If Lalime was in net I doubt the Sabres get any of the five points they did.

I hate the fact that everyone brings up "soft" goals when talking about Lalime. Every goalie let's in "soft" goals (I would argue that there actually are no soft goals in the NHL), even Ryan lets them in. The only difference was that the team kept playing after Ethron let his in (against 3 average/bad teams). With Lalime they grab their bwankies and go cry on the bench.

  4. The only thing wrong with Vanek's pass was that Roy missed. Roy had a wide open net...

After watching that play several times this morning, I think we are both right. Roy just chunked it, plain and simple, and if he had put it in we would be talking about what a great pass Vanek made. But I am also really frustrated watching Vanek this season in that he is not taking those shots. The puck didn't roll on him, it was completely settled, he just chose to pass. You only get so many opportunities to shoot on the goalie like that (especially with this team) and I wish he had the confidence to want to take that shot.

I think our outrage (that's a little strong, let's say our miffedness) is directed more towards his body of work this season rather than just that particular play.

  5. That thought did occur to me. But the loss of control was so brief, it wouldn't seem to matter. No real difference from normal stick handling, where for a split second, the player isn't actually propelling the puck.

The Kovy situation is a lot different.

Now, what about a player who stumbles, loses the puck and catches up with it after it's travelled 20 feet toward the goal line?

There's your trick play. As a player carries the puck across the blue line, he pretends to lose control sending it towards the corner, he then pretends to give up on the play dropping his shoulders and elbows, all the while the puck is moving towards the goal line. When the goalie gives up on the play as well, the shooter races to it and slaps it in.

  6. Be kept in motion. There's a difference.

It's really too bad the NHL has never published something akin to the Decisions on the Rules of Golf, where you can see how the rules are actually interpreted in some of these bizarre situations.

Interesting. So, when Vanek took his stick off the puck to do the around the world, and wasn't keeping the puck moving toward the goal line,.. should that have negated his goal?

  7. haha You had me for a second. I was about to explain the joke.

You gotta say this -- Vanek the last two games has made some incredible moves to break in on goal. He just never seems to have anything left in the legs to do anything about it once he's in.

There's life in Tom. It's a good sign.

All in all, there's nothing wrong with the way this team has played the last three games. It's too bad they had to put themselves in the position they were in to finally wake up.

    :D

I agree about Vanek. He is so much better when he keeps his feet moving, he just doesn't,.. often.

  8. What rebound was Roy going to pick up? He was in no position to pickup any rebound.

Vanek is taking way too long to make his wrong decisions. Had he shot it when he should have, Roy wouldn't have been past the net.

On a side note, Ruff needs to get on these guys for skating past the net instead of to it. The past several games I've noticed several times where there were pucks there for the taking, just sitting in no-man's land in front of the net. Instead, guys would take their shot and then sulk behind the net when it didn't go in.

  9. You guys are just upset that we lost. That was a great backdoor pass for a tap in. There is a difference between pulling up and seeing a great play develop in front of you. He saw the play and Roy missed it.

I'm upset, but not enough to cloud my judgment. I still disagree. If he shoots, and there is a rebound (which there would be because it's Biron) there are only Roy and Vanek to pick it up. Game over.

  10. Now I'm debating the phrase "the puck must be kept in motion." Doesn't that imply continuous control by the shooter? In other words, can Kovy really "abandon" the puck, then grab it again and score?

It has to keep moving toward the goal line, so, yes he could have.

  11. Any preferred place Sabre fans going before hand? My party of three will be at Brick City Bar and Grill...

I'll be lucky to make the opening faceoff because of work,.. stupid work.

When you're at the arena, check out the lines to get Molsen Canadian. It's really funny, they are the longest in the building and they are filled with all Sabres fans.
