  1. Bleacher report said yesterday that 15% of NFLers have been hurt this season already. That injury rate is up alarmingly from last year when the NFL recorded 1300 injuries for the season. At this clip, they will surpass 1300 by mid season.

Modern chemistry has surpassed what the human body can withstand.

  2. A washed up RJ is better than Dunleavy and Duff on their best days.

No offense to Dunleavy, but he needs some time. As of now he's just like every other cliche-loaded, cookie cutter announcer. Duff isn't bad, but as has been mentioned he doesn't paint a great picture for those listening on the radio. It was difficult to tell which team scored when I heard him call the Sens game.

Not saying either of those guys are bad, they just need time. Duff is one of the best reporters in the biz.

Dunleavy absolutely does not need time. What he needs is a team worth calling for. I really like him and hope that when it's time, he takes over. RJ has been living on past glories in all of our minds the past couple of seasons (that's not a bad thing, just the truth).

  3. I had a debate about those before my hearing this morning.  Funny, what a bunch of idiots in the gallery will do before the judge takes the bench and we have to start looking at our papers again.  The general consensus was under-50s use the Oxford comma; over-50s don't.

There is a similar split with two spaces after a period.  Those who grew up with a typewriter (me) do; those younger, don't.

SDS set me straight on the two space thing. He was right. I'm under fifty and always use the Oxford comma.
  4. The organization's name is the Toronto Maple Leafs. You can't just chop off that last s and make it separate. For example, if somebody's last name is Parsons...the correct possessive would be Parsons', not Parson's.

    Both. Depends on usage.

I can't (is that one okay, eleven) think of a usage where they both couldn't be technically correct.
  5. No, garbage time is piling up points and yards when you have no chance to win. The Bills got the ball back with plenty of time to score and conceivably tie it up. The Patriots continued to throw and twice went for it on fourth down. There is really no way of knowing if the Patriots defense lost its focus but I saw little evidence of a coaching adjustment similar to how Buffalo pulled back the reigns against the Colts.

The defense was obviously ineffective most of the day against Brady but he was just in one of those zones that very few can duplicate. He makes it look so easy that it can be maddening but first deciding where to throw and then hitting those throws with such precision that his receivers can turn up field and doing it all in under 2 seconds is something they may never face again.

On top of that there were at least three calls that could have turned the tide early that went against them. Not saying it cost them the game but to think the game wouldn't have been different without them is in my opinion incorrect.

On a side note, I laughed out loud when the announce expressed surprise that the Patriots continued to throw and used the cliche "I'm surprised the Patriots haven't taken the air out of the football and just stopped throwing."

I think nfreemen's head just exploded.

There absolutely was a bias against the Bills and I wasn't crazy for thinking that, but, here's the thing. It was their own damn fault! All that BS before the game (Boobie kicking the ball into their bench, the DBs surrounding their drills) is embarrassing and they deserved not getting the benefit of the doubt on the penalties they got. I didn't know this when the game took place, that's why I was so pissed off, but what Rex and that team did before the game is, well, just f###in' stupid.

I really hope that they learned that if they just play football, they're pretty good.
