General thoughts:
* Realized tonight how much better this team would have been with a healthy Jack Quinn all year
* UPL has absolutely stablized things in net and great to see UPL bounce back after a couple of rough outings
* Tage looking more like Tage, those inuries lingered for awhile and now we see what he can really do again.
* Was nice to see Granato take a timeout at a good time, laid into these guys when they needed it, maybe this is a step in the right direction for Donny, we shall see.
The lack of the dreaded 'loser points' OTL and shootouts, coupled with just a few small things, kept us out of the playoffs this year.
Better days ahead.

They won’t call them up so GMKA can sell Pegula on more deception and illusion to keep his job, the Sabres are more happy to dream about what COULD be then what it really IS.
THE FOREVER REBUILD

Regadless of what we all think about the level of talent that the Sabres have in their prospect pool, there are some out there that think very highly of what Buffalo has in the pipeline.
The first superstar player to want out of their situation, the Buffalo Sabres GM (I want KMKA out but I doubt it will happen) should be the first one on the line and send whatever prospect it takes to get that player to Western NY.

Due to injuries, Stillman will get 20-30 games this season. He’ll snag 8-12 points.
This. Hoping Stillman is a solid depth piece and hope he isn't used too much because that means we have injuries.

@Doohickie could you edit the topic to reflect that PSE didn’t so much separate the Bills and Sabres as it dissolved? E.g.,
PSE dissolved; Bills and Sabres are separated as businesses; Terry Pegula named Sabres President
So now will we see new icons Two Buffalo and not One Buffalo?

If McDavid were smart he would force a deal or sign with one of The Big 6 in the USA, the markets that enjoy the sweet aromas of the tax breaks:
Nashville
Florida
Tampa Bay
Dallas
Vegas
Seattle
In this locations McDavid can sign for almost 2M less AAV then in Edmonton and net the same $ if not more, other players follow suit as they do now, be able to spend millions more then high taxed NHL markets and McDavid will win multiple Cups.

As much as I would like to see the Sabres trade VO, cap space is so precious in the NHL, there are very limited suitors for VO, unless GMKA is willing to take on a larger contract for themselves.

Feels like Galchenyuk changes teams, gets traded, or gets released every 2 months lol

This isn't the NFL. Ltir works differently. We'll see Quinn in February if not January.
Very true, I am thinking more of the lines of when I hear achilles, that can be very serious. In the back of my mind I wonder if Max Pacioretty rushed back from his (little different) and I didn't want Quinn to have a similar issue, especially since he has such a. bright future ahead of him.

Do you all think its possible the Sabres LTIR Quinn and let him sit the year and we bring in a vet for 1 year to replace, given the nature of JQ's injury?

Everyone said last year how Detroit had "improved their roster" and yet we were better.
Don't underestimate the growth power, jjp, Krebs, and Levi will show.
I think Yzerman is a good GM but is it just me or does this guy almost walk on water with the hockey media? Every move is great, perfect, great deals, great signings. No matter what he does. So far I give Yzerman a B- in DET. Maybe in 2-3 years the wave of their young players arrive but im not in love with some of their UFA signings.

The way things have shook out with the goalies and that the Sabres have 25/23 players signed with 5.8M in cap space, this might be a perfect time to call Winnipeg about Connor Hellbuyck. Olofsson, prospect and a 1st (Top 10 protected) as a centerpiece of the deal, even if it was a 1 year rental, would clearly put Buffalo in the playoff picture and really allow Levi to ease into becoming a full time NHL goalie.

If the Sabres want to bring in a forward on a short-term deal to fill Quinn's spot this season, how about Blake Wheeler or Matt Duchene, both of whom are being bought out? Both have scoring skill and a ton of experience, and neither would be expensive.
Very interesting idea that I like, this is the last year where the Sabres can weaponize some cap space and those are both intriguing short term options, and this would allow the Sabres to get Quinn really take his time.

Orlov would be the crazy move
Graves would be the great move
Mayfield would be the solid
move
Andersen would be he ideal 2 year pickup. I wonder if they plan to bring another goalie in though.
Im all in for Ryan Graves.
6'5 LHD can be a shutdown defenseman who can move the puck well enough not to be a liability on offense and has a good shot. Imagine our Top 4 D being 6'3 (Dahlin) 6'4 (Samuelsson) 6'6 (Power) and 6'5 (Graves) I think 5X5M AAV can get Graves done or close to that, 5.5 max

I would tend to agree with the just #13 for Pesce but maybe 13 and VO could get me to bite

Would you move Pick #13 for Brett Pesce?

Win tonight in regulation and even if we lose to Dallas on Thursday it is ok.
Don't want to say tonight IS the season, but in some way it kind of is.

The 3rd round pick in 2023 we just got for Portillo will really come in handy tonight. 🙄
6-2 Bruins and the slide begins.

I'm going to post my thoughts and then leave for the day. Honestly I get sick and tired of the team stromcloud posters who we don't hear from during the wins but come in with the same tired and incorrect takes after a loss. Fun fact, we outhit Toronto last night and outshot them in the end. But hey, yea it's all physicality for why we lost... what a myopic and simplistic take.
The Good: there is not a lot but it was nice to see Alex Tuch and Rasmus Dahlin start laying the physical play on after going down 4-0 but you gotta do when it is 0-0. I thought both tried to elevate their games after the slow start. I think physicality does matter and the Sabres were overwhelmed at times by Toronto's but it wasn't because they don't have a big strong physical team, it was because they came out with less intensity... welcome to the stretch run where every game matters.
Jack Quinn might be the smartest forward we have and the game is slowing for him. There were several times last night where he simply made plays or passes that I don't think anyone else on this team would. He needs another 15lbs of muscle but there is a lot to like in his game and it keeps improving.
Craig Anderson came in and other than the PP goal, shut everything down and provided a calming presence. Good.
The Bad: this team was not ready to play. Now I know many say that is coaching but I disagree. When they finally were ready to play they played exceedingly well but they showed again last night that haven't come to grips with the level they will need to sustain to make the playoffs.
The coaches need to reinvent their pp and pk because right now it is trash. They also contributed to the loss because quite honestly they aren't getting the message through that this is the stretch run, win and you are in. Lose and it is just like every other year. Also I am tossing Adams into this hole too. Get some f###ing defensive help, trade Rosen, Bryson, whatever else for Jacob Chychrun or similar.
UPL was bad. Marty Biron said it this morning on WGR that most teams start slow after a west coast swing and they need their goalie to help a bit. UPL didn't help at all and before his defenders jump on me, no every goal was not his fault but I gotta say the 4th goal and ROR's 2nd I would like a goalie to make a save, or even touch the puck. He didn't help last nice and deserved to be pulled. When does Levi get here?
The bottom 6 last night sucked. They were very ineffective and I liked Okposo tossing some hits but there was a lot of them getting hemmed in their zone and making passes into traffic.
The Ugly: the first period was total garbage and the team should be forced to show up early today to watch that again. Maybe the coaches can explain in detail why they sucked. Owen Power in the first was awful (he rebounded well though), Tyson Jost I disliked yesterday, and Jacob Bryson can go now.
Jacob Bryson... Im done with him. Idc if he is liked in the room or any of that jazz, he doesn't have the strength, length, or ability to be an effective top 6 defender in the NHL. Multiple times last night the puck skipped by or through him and he wasn't fast enough or strong enough to recover it. Along the boards he is basically useless. There is this false belief around here that I think size doesn't matter at all, I don't. Bryson is too small for the type of defender he is to be successful in the NHL long term. We need someone on that 3rd pair that is bigger and hard to play against.
ROR, they let him get a hat trick just like Jack Eichel and honestly, that pisses me off quite a bit. For a fanbase that was forced to suffer those two jack wagons, the team should have risen to the occasion better.
Finally the home record. I heard we are 2-7 in our last 9 home games now. I would put that on the bulletin board and let the team know that every time a kid comes to a game they are more likely to watch a pathetic half hearted loss than a win. I should burn my kids first game certificate because I was a previous home loss of epic crapitude. The fans deserve better.
They were not good but it wasn't simply because they didn't hit stuff, it was because they didn't hit stuff or play well.
GREAT post and so much to unpack here.
The loss sucked but when you really look at it, it was not as bad as 5-0 was displaying. I did like the fight the team showed to make it 5-3. The horrid start happens from time to time over a 82 game season. We still have to realize we have a very young team and some holes on this roster that need to be fixed.
The good news about Bryson (and you are 100 percent dead on with your take) is that he can be easily replaced. No albatross contract to worry about, so I expect that to happen and soon.
I'm not trying to get the ROR stuff bother me but i HOPE it bothers the organization. I want them to use that as fuel in that 'enjoy it now while you can because that isn't happening again on our watch'

This organization doesn’t feel like this at all. Better get used to what you are seeing.
Sadly I think you are correct, maybe it pays off in long run but the waiting gets tiresome at times.

I know Devon Levi is our savior in net. But that can take some time, even when he arrives it might take 2 years or so for Devon to realize his immense potential.
We need solutions in net and NOW.
Why not Thatcher Demko? 3 more years at 5M AAV after this season.
We have the cap room, Demko can handle a big load of starts, and by the time his contract is towards the end, Levi will be ready to take the reigns.
Let's get Demko and Luke Schenn.
