I've never heard of this food.  It doesn't look like something I'd like although it does look like something my grandmother from the old country would make when she was still alive and able to cook.  She did a lot with cabbage.  Go Sabres!

Not sure I'd recognize it from the spelling; phonetically we always called it "gwum-kee".

Las Brasas in East Aurora is very good.

I dunno, their salsa seems like it's from a jar. Otherwise, it's not bad, in a heavy Tex-Mex way.

The guy who runs Maizal is from Oaxaca and he often puts regional Oaxaca dishes on his menu or as specials.

    Man, I love Oaxaca cheese.

I know I am going to get killed for this but I also don't like Mighty Taco.  Chipotle and Moe's any day of the week over that place for me. Honestly, I think Taco Bell is better than Mighty Taco and way cheaper.

You were doing fine up to the last sentence. Mighty isn't *good*, but it's not *that* bad. 🙂

Left Coast Tacos in EA is good; more my style these days with lighter, fresh takes on the food. Hombre y Lobo in Buffalo looks like a similar take. There's a place here that does fried potato filling, which is a great way to do vegetarian.

    Not sure I follow.

If your point is that cord-cutting has - for most - led to as much or more spending on various streaming services, then: Agreed.

I know I'm doing better and spending less, on balance.

OTOH, I'm still in a life-phase where I have no time (energy? desire?) to commit to television. The last show we watched the whole way through was Peaky Blinders. Prior to that, it was pandemic days and we definitely got into a few shows then (the whole fam damily, actually).

Is that really true? People are really paying $100+ per month on streaming? I realize I live in a different world. We have Prime for the shipping and sometimes watch the content, and every few months we activate Netflix for a month or two but that's it.

    Play action, you say?

SOMEONE TELL DORSEY ABOUT THIS TOO.

You need a credible run game to make play-action work. It sounds like the Bills may actually be successfully running the ball lately, so it's just so crazy it might work.

Yeah, I bought a PC instead because they get better deals.  but, I never buy cutting edge anyway.. it's far too expensive.  I have been toying with building a racing rig, full seat frame and everything.  But.. common sense keeps winning out. 🙂

My friend out in Denver built a driving rugged. The seat is a bucket from an 80s Porsche.

All these stories are coming out from the Spittin' Chiclets Podcast crew and then they go from one hockey guy to another. Not sure if they are all true, or a little spun in an anti Babcock direction but those guys really really hate Babcock.

Not defending Babcock in any way. Absolutely sure he did some of these things (or a version of) but it is interesting to see how the "news" is spreading out in all directions because of a popular podcast with a few loudmouth former NHLers.

It's pretty established that once one person does something like speak up, others will feel empowered to speak up since don't feel like they're alone.

  7. Initially this seemed kinda low-rent, and something that'd happen in Buffalo vs. the more glamorous cities. I found this from last year and it's a mixed bag. Some much bigger names in there, as well as others that are in the same neighborhood. Several medical-related sponsors, wonder if that's targeted to hockey fans being older or more likely to get hurt, lol.

The conclusion that Babcock must be a pervert has nothing to do with his having scorned the Sabres?

I kinda forgot about that whole "spurning Buffalo" thing until this thread, and that after (I think) I posted. Babcock is a dinosaur (and apparently a pervert) and it's not about Buffalo. Columbus wouldn't have fired him because he spurned Buffalo. *Maybe* it got posted here because "look at the jerk-guy that we don't like being a jerk-guy", but I'm betting there are fan boards all around the NHL talking about this.

According to what I read, Babcock asked players to share photos off their phone to get to know them better. Absolutely weird.

Meh, on first read "share a picture from your phone" seems like a pretty normal team-building thing. I wouldn't blink if it was a corporate setting.

Why think the worst? Several players have defended the coach by saying it was merely an attempt to get to know the player. Here's a pic of my dog, my grams etc.

New school offensive minded players coaches are the way to go.

Yeah, so far this seems reasonable. It's common in my corporate setting to share things (if you want) to build a relationship. It can go overboard if "forced", but I've yet to see that. On our "team" page at work, we were asked to put a sentence about your hobby or whatnot after your name for the people interacting with us. You'd be surprised how many Buffalo ex-pats turn up that way, lol. There's also a trend in management that when you start with a new team you have a slide with a collage of your "outside work" stuff. It's kinda manufactured but mostly harmless.

Why think the worst?  Because they fired him for it.  From the limited info in the news article apparently more people did not like it.

I coached sports for many years, managed people for many decades - never felt I needed pictures of their friends and family to get to know them.  Talking to them in an open and honest manner - yes.  Setting rules and standards - yes.  Looking at pictures of their spouse and kids is not a need, and it comes well after the relationship is established.

Then again, I keep learning how are different things are today.

It's not really different than having a picture of your family at your desk or in your wallet.

Now all that said, taking someones phone and rifling through it? And the person is in a subordinate position where you hold their career in their hands? Creep.

Fact ?  Wow. That's a leap of faith. Faith that TP is guilty. You've implied it in most every post.

"Fair and balanced" is letting it play out with actual hard evidence. Not defending TP at all but guilty by accusation will never fly. Don't know Trotter at all and actually what happened.

As the other have pointed out, there doesn't need to be hard evidence of the statement, since that's not actually what the lawsuit is about. The lawsuit (as I understand it) is that John Trotter heard from a colleague that someone said that, reported it through the NFL's process, it wasn't really followed up on, and then Trotter was sent packing. This is classic whistle-blower stuff as it's laid out. It's kinda slimy that the complaint mentions an owner by name, but I'd think that'd come out in the evidence since presumably the NFL has records of the investigation. Unless there wasn't one, and that's the point. I'd hope that Trotter "kept the receipts" and has the evidence on what he directly experienced since that's the actual question.

As a side note, I think some people wonder why the original person isn't making the complaint or named. Where I work, people are encouraged to report things even if they only witnessed or were told of the issue and not directly involved. There's a lot of reasons someone would be afraid to report something, such as (oh, I dunno) losing their job or getting blackballed in the industry despite "protections". So I don't find that part odd. I'm reasonably senior and established where I work, so I could absolutely imagine a situation where one of the junior people I work with would be wary of being branded as a troublemaker where I could report and not have it be a career-destroying move (even if I got forced out of this job).

Now this is a fair clarification.

However, it’s also fair to point out that, like Trotter, plenty of these guys go back and forth between independent media gigs and working “in house.”   It’s highly likely that quite a few of the 40 NFL media members who were allegedly present on the zoom call in September 2020 have since gone independent.  Some of those people would presumably have spilled the beans about TP’s alleged statement.

Of course, we don’t know who was at the meeting, and those people can’t be asked about it, since they weren’t identified in the complaint.

I don't think the bold is fair if you're implying "well, no one else has reported it so it's not true". As Trotter is finding out, you don't embarrass the league and expect to continue working with it. Entirely likely anyone who reported something like this would quickly find closed doors and be looking for a new career outside football and probably sports media.

Furthering your point: the biggest racist I have ever known was my Chinese grandmother.  She called me a half-breed to my face in front of my Chinese relatives.  She looked down at every other nationality, skin colour, etc., but held a specific contempt for Caucasians.  She knew the struggles of the capitalist Chinese forwards and backwards, but she was somewhere between oblivious to aggressively ignorant about any other group.  And she thought that she treated people equally, but it was relative to the elitist hierarchy in her mind.

Careful, you're wandering close to "it's okay, they do it too". 🙂 (to be clear, I absolutely don't think you're saying that)

Taking a single sentence out of an entire conversation (or however those comments allegedly came about) is a dangerous game. Zero context provided by a twitter post? That’s a first.

Either comment could have been preceded by something like “some people may say…” or “those stupid Ns…”. Those two options paint completely different pictures. I caught the beginning of My Cousin Vinny last night. Go watch what the cop uses as Danny LaRusso’s murder confession.

Wait for more information before any owner is getting thrown out of the league.

Edit: And also wait before giving either owner a pass.

Fair, and we all need to slow down. I will say there aren't too many contexts where saying, "If you don't like it, go back to XXXX" is a good look.

Disclaimer: I've been known to say, "Go back Canada ya hosers; Leafs suck eh" to Canadian geese. And no, I'm not OSP.
