    Thoughts on Trump Presidency.

Mixed bag. Not fond of his use of tariffs as muscle, but, understandable given the slip in economics over a 40 year period.

Like his security of nation first prioritizing, after all, it does no good to support, not support if I'm dead.

Not a fan of his personal responses to situations, no matter what they are, the Presidency is above that.

I am a fan however, of going right to the people via twitter and other platforms.

Would like to see more compromise in an effort to bring the nation together, however, the other political party has made that impossible as well.

Foreign affairs is a mixed bag, I would like to see more engagement on the China trade front, but, we are not privy to all that is going on behind the scenes.

And that leads me to my last gripe on him, transparency, while it's never been higher in my lifetime in any event, it's still subpar.

    Economics - A

    Security - A

Unity - C (F overall, but B for trying, even if half heartedly, and can you blame him? averaging to a C)

Best interest of the nation in mind - A

    Foreign Affairs - C

I'm interested in understanding why you give the Economics aspect an A when we have the largest trade deficit in ten years. Yes GDP growth rate has improved in the short term but remains relatively steady  at ~2-3% since the recession in 2008, but our reliance on other countries for trade goods is a perilous position given the foreign policy concerns.

Just trying to understand another perspective.

    Quote

The US trade deficit widened to USD 59.8 billion in December of 2018 from an upwardly revised USD 50.3 billion in the previous month and compared with market expectations of a USD 57.9 billion gap. It is the largest deficit since October of 2008 as exports declined for the third month and imports recovered. In 2018, the country's trade gap widened to a 10-year high, with the goods gap with China jumping to a record high despite tariffs on USD 250 billion worth of Chinese imports. Balance of Trade in the United States averaged -14602.55 USD Million from 1950 until 2018

4-0!  The Beauts are heading to the 4th consecutive Isobel Cup Final. If the Rivetors can pull off the upset tomorrow at Minnesota, the final would be at Harbor Center. Otherwise we'll be on the road.

I started following the Beauts more closely this season with the addition of the former captain of my Alma Mater, and it's been a lot of fun to watch. It helps all the games have been free to stream, but I'd probably pay for a streaming package if it was reasonably priced.

Maybe next year I can make a game up in Buffalo, especially since they drafted another Clarkson player this year.

Having gone to two games this year, I will say that the Beauts games are a great bang for your buck in terms of entertainment. The intimate atmosphere of the Harborcenter gets you really close to the action, and the play quality was different but equally entertaining to the Sabres games I have been to (my record in person is sub .250 so that may attribute some of it).

It took me 2+ hours to get this up, but I'm gonna turn this into my travel wall, I was thinking of doing pins with black yarn and stretch it to multiple picture frames with something cool from that country all over the open spaces, but not 100% sure yet, then I wanna get something cool like a wanderlust caption that is stick on also

That's cool - I did a similar thing with a US/Canada map to track all the cities and random single-stoplight towns I visited for work and pleasure. I might have to dig that up and update it with all the new places I've been to. Unfortunately if I did the world map it would be pretty sparse with only a dozen or so countries filled in. We can't compete with you buddy!

GDTs were a ton of fun a few months back for some reason ?

Have stayed away from GDT's from ~1 hour until face off - > forever for the last couple of weeks.  Enjoying the team & games much more.  Expect that's more correlation than causation.  Eichel picked his game back up about that same time.

I feel like the exact opposite. I don't have much interest reading all of the "Fire Housley", "Is Tage good", "How sucky can we get" threads during non-game days. It's just too much of the same dreariness.

But there's something fun to me about the communal reactions of watching your team do well or poorly in real time. There's hockey knowledge here in abundance, and reading through reactions gives me some real gems of insight.

Well, I'm not negative about the team, but I am in the minority regarding sports consumption. I've watched more hockey this year than the past several combined. I don't fall asleep and regardless of the score - the games have been fun to watch for me.

That Penguins game last Friday was the most fun I had at a Sabres game since 2010-11 playoffs against the Flyers. Every game I have attended from that time until this year has been low-event, boring hockey with the added misery of losing the majority of the games. I know they aren't making the playoffs this year, but I have had more fun watching this year than the last 5 years combined.

Samson becomes the third most important player on the Jack/Jeff line, as he defers to those two to drive play. When he is on his own line, he is the one who drives play and has the puck on his stick most of the time.

I honestly cannot see how PH doesn't recognize this.

    They should be reunited when:

    1. The Sabres are on the Power Play

    2. The Sabres are trying to score a late goal to tie it (empty net situation)

    3. Eichel - Skinner have grown cold with Pommer or whoever, but as soon as they get going again, move Sam back to the second line.

I'm down with scenario #1 & #2, but even in #3 above I would let them figure it out on their own, because of how ineffective the rest of the lines are when we stack line 1.

  7. Friend called us last night with free 200 level tickets, so I guess that means we're attending this one. Her husband is a Penguins fan as well, so hopefully the home team gives a solid showing tonight so we don't have to listen to him all game :)

My last game of the season.  Well, until tickets go to about $5 and there are callups from Rochester to evaluate.

Let me know if you want to say hello since I missed the SS meetup.

X-37-23 was a good second line back when we won one out of every two games about a week ago...

Agreed. At this point Jack and Sam on separate lines should be a foregone conclusion.

Pommers with Jack & Jeff gives that line ~90% of the effectiveness of Sam with that pair, and Sam on the second line turns them from road kill into an offensive threat.

Which is why you can't *just* look at the numbers.  You also can't *just* look at the TV.  Gotta step out to a game once in a while and see what he's doing off-camera.

Which is what exactly? (not trying to be snarky, just wondering if you can expand on what you see that I haven't through the broadcast)

  10. Tage has moments on the ice where I see the potential and he could be something. He occasionally is able to deke through defenders and use his long reach and strong shot to look dangerous.

Unfortunately, that is drastically offset by other times looking like a newborn giraffe on ice, and having very poor advanced stats metrics. I just think he's still so young that a lot of the things that used to work for him in juniors are not working in the NHL, and because of it leads to odd man rushes and opportunities for our opponents.

I think he's only in Buffalo to continue to show something from the ROR trade, since Berglund left and Sobotka is an unmitigated disaster as well.
