The logical thing to do is bury Hunwick and Sobotka, then dump Scandella for a pick. Can’t remember exactly how much we save with those guys in the AHL, but I think that frees up about $6 million

The I’d trade a LW and a RD for a centre and a RW. Personally, I’d like to see something built around Risto and ERod for Cirelli and Palat which saves another million. If the Bolts are keeping Point, along with Vasi’s big raise, it will be very hard for them to re-sign Cirelli next summer.

Then, as a bonus, I’d sign Gardiner if we have the space.

For this upcoming season a team can save $1.075M per buried contract. So Hunwick and Sobotka in Rochester would only save approx $2M.

You can add Bylsma to that list.

Bylsma won the cup in his first year as a head coach in the NHL. He's actually an example which supports hiring a guy like Keefe. The rest of the list had "failed" at previous stops before winning it elsewhere.

So you're all excited to bring in a solid, retread. Let's be ahead of the curve for once. Keefe has won at every level he's been given a chance at. Make no mistake about it the NHL will come calling soon. And, he will win just like at every other level.

How can you be impressed by a record (Tippett) of 14 yrs as a coach and missed playoffs half the time (including last 5 years in a row)? And, only advanced past first round a couple times, and just once to the third round. I don't want to hear he had no talent either. The great coaches don't have records like this. Solid maybe, but not good enough. I want someone with the potential to win it all.

Raise your standards people and shoot for something bigger.

Quenneville, Trotz, Julien, Sutter, Babcock. All "retreads" who have won the cup in the last 10 years. There is no exact science to this process. We just have to trust JBott will find what he's looking for and make the right decision.

  4. So I was definitely thinking it'd be odd to celebrate this upcoming season (while it would be the 50th season, the 50th anniversary technically would fall in 20-21.) But it seems their 40th anniversary was the only one falling after the actual season being celebrated. (10th anniversary season was celebrated in 79-80, 20th in 89-90, etc.)

I guess this is happening. Still want to see something more definitive. But we do know there will be a new third next year at the very least.

  5. I think we might still be a year away from any real festivities as the 50th anniversary falls in 2020. (The 40th anniversary jerseys were released in 2010, for reference.) With that said, it is widely believed there will at least be a new third jersey next year.

  6. That $7.5M would have no effect on anything the Sabres do going forward. Had the Sabres paid it though, they might have "bought" a better return in the trade.

    I guess?

I dunno. I'm just trying to stay positive with the whole "we saved money" thing.

If it got us Thomas or even Kyrou, though? Yup. Count me in.
