Sabres stand tall in defeat

‘”That’s fun to play, I’ll tell you that much,” said Sabres forward Nathan Gerbe, who delivered a game-high eight hits. “Those games are awesome. It’s fun to play. It’s fun to compete. Those are two teams that desperately wanted to win. We wanted to prove to each other who’s better. We competed hard, but at the end we’re in the shootout to score goals, and we didn’t do that.”‘

Gaustad, teammates answer the bell

‘”It was an unfortunate incident in Boston,” Gaustad said. “I give credit to Milan for fighting. It’s something where guys don’t have to, and he did. Myself, I wanted to step up after I thought I could have done more in the Boston game. We moved on from that point in Boston and I think we’ve become a better team because of it.”‘

Battling Bruins win 10th in a row

‘”You have to give Gaustad credit,” Chara said. “He’s a stand-up guy and he did a good job for his team. So did Looch.”‘

Buffalo Sabres lose revenge game against Boston Bruins

‘”We answered every call,” Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said. Except they didn’t win the game. Despite opening 2-0 and 3-1 leads, the Sabres found themselves under siege for most of the final 25 minutes.’

Sabres ”answer every call” against Bruins

‘“I don’t know if I think about it that way,” said Gaustad, who had acknowledged he should’ve done more when Miller went down. “I think we responded well as a team. I’m proud of the way the guys played tonight.”’

Lucic and Gaustad come out fighting

‘All in all, far more hype than hurt, which is often the case when there is such a protracted build-up.’

Milan Lucic stands tall in expected battle

‘Though Gaustad didn’t do too well, the crowd still seemed delighted by the effort, cheering loudly. He did deserve credit for his willingness to have a go at Lucic.’

Frontier justice prevails in Buffalo

‘But the mantra in the NHL these days is forget the frontier justice, let the referees and the league handle this stuff. Ruff, though, made it clear he wasn’t buying that right now. So Gaustad did his duty. ‘

Justice served but Bruins win game

‘So, the Lucic-Miller incident might be just about closed, but not the animosity that has been added to this growing rivalry.’
