Sabres go down quietly

‘”We felt like if we stuck to our game plan and played our game we’re obviously the better team,” Sabres defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani said. “It’s just a lapse maybe of two or three minutes here and there. They got some breaks and we couldn’t score more than one.”‘

Late Kelley honored for doing it his way

‘Kelley did get his way or, in this case, his Way. Jim Kelley Way is now a one-block section of Washington Street between First Niagara Center and The Buffalo News dedicated to the late, great hockey writer. It was a wonderful tribute Tuesday for a Hall of Fame columnist, and better man, who died a year ago today.’

Sabres’ Leopold hurt so Ehrhoff works OT

‘”He’s hurting,” said coach Lindy Ruff. “I don’t know if he’ll miss time or not.”‘

Sabres can’t finish off chances or last-place Islanders

‘In their last six games, the Sabres have only beaten the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals, two reeling clubs whose coaches got axed Monday. Enough said.’

Sabres rookie Kassian showcasing different style in pro ranks

‘“I think I’m physical. I’m not going out of my way to run around,” Kassian said shortly after his recall. “I’m playing like there’s a puck on the ice. Obviously, you’re playing on the top two lines (in Rochester). I’m getting leaned upon to produce. Whenever you get in those situations, you don’t want to waste it. You want to produce.”’

Rolston lifts Isles to 2-1 win over Sabres

‘Jochen Hecht scored for the banged-up Sabres who have gone 3-4-1 in their past eight and dropped to 6-7-1 at home this season. Buffalo was missing seven regulars, and lost defenseman Jordan Leopold to an undisclosed upper body injury in the first period.’

NY Islanders 2, Buffalo 1

‘Jochen Hecht had a goal and Jhonas Enroth made 28 saves for the Sabres, losers of six of their last nine games.’

Sabres Fall to Islanders 2-1

‘The loss dropped Buffalo to 6-7-1 at home while the Isles picked up just their second road win of the season.’

Sabres Hecht just happy to be playing

‘Hecht thought he’d be ready for the games in Europe, but he kept having setbacks with his concussion. The forward said he was excited to finally play, “I expected to play the first regular season game and it just kept on dragging and then when I was finally ready to come back I was nervous before the game like I hadn’t been for a long time, so I was really excited to be back and be part of the team on the ice again.”’
