City clueless for keeping Miller keyless

‘I am not in the habit of getting gooey over sports stars. But this guy stands above and beyond the standard-issue millionaire jock. His Steadfast Foundation, formed as Miller’s teenage cousin battled leukemia, has raised nearly $900,000. It’s the real thing, not some public relations gesture intended as much to polish a star’s image as to help a cause.’

No-hustle play gets Ruff ranting

‘”I was coaching,” Ruff said with a grin. “That’s what it was. A little bit of complacency in that drill bothered me because our power play was making strides. You can’t practice like that. You can’t practice the power play and have it be effective the way we were practicing. I just chose to get my point across.”‘

Sid the Kid has passion to be great

‘"He would have ran away with the game, just like Gretzky did," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said. "The game is a lot tougher now. He’s still thriving in a tougher game. The depth of players in the game now is a lot better going back to the early ’80s, when teams usually had one good line or possibly two."’

Well-traveled Stuart returns to the show

‘"I think [patience is] the biggest thing for a pro hockey player, especially one in a position like that," he said. "I’d finally gotten comfortable in Atlanta, so to speak, and a couple offseason trades and I ended up in the Calgary organization. Things didn’t work out there as far as getting some time in the NHL, but you just stay patient and keep working hard, and hopefully you get the call sooner or later."’

Ex-Penguins defenseman Leopold producing for Sabres

‘His time with the Sabres figures to be significantly longer — they signed him to a three-year contract worth $3 million per season — and, if the early evidence is any indication, extremely productive.’
