‘"We just got them to the front with Van in front there, and that’s what we’ve been trying to do," Connolly said. "We did a better job of it. It’s slowly been moving in the right direction."’
‘”The first period, once again, we didn’t do a great job getting pucks deep and creating stuff,” Vanek said. “In the second, the Gaustad line really came out, played hard and got that goal. ‘“We just wanted to work hard, be available to each other and get pucks to the net,” said Connolly, who snapped a nine-game goal-less drought. “A lot of the games are decided by special teams. Ours are getting better.”’
‘”That’s the best third period we’ve played (at home),” said Buffalo head coach Lindy Ruff. “I didn’t like the way we started. We weren’t clicking, we weren’t working.”‘

‘Buffalo scored two power play goals against Los Angeles’ top-ranked penalty killing units. The Kings entered the game tied with Montreal with a 90.1 penalty killing percentage. It marked just the second time this season that the Sabres scored more than one power play goal in a game.’
