Rick Martin beats Bernie Parent to become the first Sabre ever to score on a penalty shot. But the Flyers beat the Sabres, 4-3, at the Spectrum. The Sabres had still not won a game in Philly in their history, and their luck would not get better the following season, when they lost three games in the Stanley Cup finals in the City of not so Brotherly Love. In fact, it took the Sabre franchise seven years to get its first win at the Spectrum.

Goalie Tom Draper suffers a meltdown in his final appearance as a Sabre, allowing two goals late in regulation time and one in overtime in a 5-4 loss to the Oilers at the Aud. The performance against his former team has coach John Muckler lobbying general manager Gerry Meehan to finally find him a goaltender, even though the future Dominator is on the roster. Mucks has a minder in mind -- Grant Fuhr is playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs and owns five Stanley Cup rings with the aforementioned Oil.

January 31, 2004

The Sabres beat the Rangers 3-1 for the second straight day, this time at HSBC Arena, for their fourth consecutive win.
