May 19, 1975,

There's an unusual spring heat wave in Buffalo as the Sabres and Flyers prepare for Game 3 of the finals the next day at the Aud. The temperature rises as the Flyers, leading the series two games to nothing, threaten to turn up the heat on the Sabres even more. In the rafters of the Aud, above the catwalk, two terrorist bats hold a super-secret meeting. "Tomorrow is the day we take back our home!" one says. "The ice will be bathed in the blood of the skating infidels!"

The Sabres are about halfway through their nine-day break before they meet the Capitals in Washington for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals. The matchup of goaltenders Dominik Hasek and Olaf Kolzig is a prime topic of conversation.

May 19, 1999

The Sabres savor their series victory over the Boston Bruins the night before at Marine Midland Arena. At home in Boston, Pat Burns' belly is still on fire. "I've eaten my last suicidal Buffalo Wing!" he moans to his wife.
