This Day in Sabres History :: March 16

March 16, 1975

In goaltender Gerry Desjardins' first appearance in the Buffalo nets, Gil Perreault records a hat trick and adds three assists as the Sabres romp over the Leafs at Maple Leaf Gardens, 11-3.

In his second game as a Sabre, Steve Heinze scores a hat trick in a 4-2 win over Vancouver at HSBC Arena. He of the Shaved Head certainly can use the hat. And the Sabres, who had been hot since the All-Star Break, could use the points as they try to nail down fourth place in the conference and home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Why did we ever let Steve go? And where the hell did he go? Is he still around?

He went to LA. had a mediocre season and was out of hockey in 2 years. Plus, thats when the Sabres traded Dom and started their freefall. That was an exciting season though reacquiring Audette and getting Heinze.
