Kinda off topic, but he is our minor league coach and does develop our youth. Figured i'd post this in case anyone is interested.

From Pierre LeBrun-

Jackets' coaching situation

The latest from Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch:

"[interim coach Claude] Noel is considered a legitimate candidate, but the Blue Jackets will interview six to eight other candidates, possibly more," wrote Portzline.

"Names to keep in mind: Kevin Dineen, a former Blue Jackets player, currently coach of the AHL's Portland Pirates; Paul MacLean, an assistant coach in Detroit; Brent Peterson, an assistant in Nashville; Kevin McCarthy, an assistant in Philadelphia; Scott Stevens, an assistant in New Jersey; Jim Playfair, former coach of the Calgary Flames; Craig MacTavish, former coach of the Edmonton Oilers; Guy Boucher, coach of the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs; and Bob Boughner, coach of the junior-level Windsor Spitfires.

"Dineen, who has [previously] turned down at least one NHL coaching job, is believed to be the leading candidate."

Dineen has been knocking at the NHL coaching door for a few years.

It's been rumored, but Dineen no longer has any ties with the current Columbus franchise. When Dineen was there it was under the Doug MacLean regime and since that time it's become Scott Howson's team. The scouting staff has changed and many of the people who were with the Blue Jackets are now gone.

Not only that Howson has his guy... Claude Noel was hired and groomed by Howson and when you look at the numbers some would argue that Noel is a better coach than Dineen. Noel won a Calder Cup and was in the Finals twice. He was also AHL coach of the year.

Dineen has been to the Conference Finals twice and won the AHL coach of the year. Not shabby, but that might not translate to the NHL.

Dineen has said that he has not spoken with Columbus.
