March 7, 1971

In a 6-3 win over Vancouver at the Aud, Gilbert Perreault scores his 35th goal of the season, a rookie record.

 

March 7, 1986

Gilbert Perreault closes in on a milestone, scoring his 499th goal in a 6-2 loss to the Hartford Whalers at the Aud.

 

March 7, 1989

Lindy Ruff is traded to the New York Rangers for a fifth-round draft choice in 1990 that becomes Richard Smehlik.

3/7/71 is interesting. The very first Sabres game I went to was in the spring of '71 against the Blues. It was a weeknight and my father made us leave at the end of the second because of school the next day. I have always held it against him because I recall that Bert broke the rookie goal record in the third period that night. I guess I didn't miss it by being forced to leave early that night.
